Colorism And Darkskin Privilege: The Ugly Reality - czcams.com/video/8f4grsr58Z0/video.html
The importance of Black representation in The Color Purple lies in the novel's exploration of the experiences of Black women during a time of social and cultural transformation in America. By having Black characters speak for themselves and depict their lives in a way that was largely ignored or misrepresented in mainstream literature, the novel helped to give voice to marginalized communities and challenge dominant narratives of race, gender, and sexuality. It also provided a way for readers to reflect on their own biases and assumptions, and hopefully challenge them in constructive ways.
Some may argue that the casting of Halle Baily as Nettie perpetuates a harmful beauty standard that values lighter-skinned actors over darker-skinned actors, which can lead to limited opportunities for darker-skinned performers. Also, others may point out that the character Nettie is described as having dark skin in the original novel and may feel that the casting overlooks this aspect of the character.
1. Cognitive bias refers to the systematic errors in thinking that occur when people process and interpret information. These biases can affect the way people perceive, remember, evaluate, and respond to information.
2. The halo effect is a cognitive bias in which a person's overall impression of someone is influenced by their positive qualities, such as beauty, intelligence, or charisma. This can lead to overestimating their abilities or dismissing negative behavior because of the positive impression.
3. The horns effect is the opposite of the halo effect, where a person's overall impression of someone is influenced by their negative qualities, such as physical appearance, social status, or personality. This can lead to underestimating their abilities or overlooking positive behavior because of the negative impression.

I think pretty privillage was a term invented by those who dislike pretty woman because of jealosy. Sure if you want to be a model, a star or something like that it is beneficial however do you want an more ordinary life woman will try to stop you from succesiding. That males look at you and objectify you and perople thinking you are not smart because you can't be both pretty and smart is not a privilliage.

It is imperative to reiterate that this was not United States History. This was the history of Louisiana Territory which was under French and Spanish Rule and another country! Anglo Africans Americans history is the 13 Colony British U.S. Territory NOT Louisiana Territory History! This was specifically for Louisiana Creole, Free Women of Color etc. who were citizens of LA Country!!! Respectfully, Louisiana Creole People's history is well over 500 Years! The American educational system does a poor job explaining the various diasporas that took place here! You can expect folks who know their history to be protective of it!!!!! It's nothing personal! It is tiresome to see our history distorted by U.S. Namaste!!!

I am an African American woman. I dont agree with BMI. I am 5'8 190 lbs, I look small, yet curvy. My blood pressure runs normal 109/72, 112/78 for example. All my labs are within normal range, with the exception of my 'good cholesterol' (HDL) it was recently 12 points too low, I have raised it 9 points by changing my diet. I have 3 more points to be in normal range. I also want to add that recently lost 50lbs. My goal was to lose 45. I've happily accepted the 50 lb weight loss as my new maintenance weight loss goal. Even at 50 lbs heavier, my labs were good with the exception of the HDL. I ate a ton of sweets, baked goods which kept it too low. The weight loss was personal preference, even though the rest of my blood work was still good at 240 lbs

I agree. Let me say that I am on and off with my fitness, but I am back on and plan to stay on. I see how regular exercise is a basic fact of life. We bathe/shower daily, so we need to do the same for exercise. Even when I don't feel like exercising, I will lift weights for a few reps. In other words, do something even if it is just one jumping jack.

I don’t follow celebrities. Most don’t have as much hair as I have. I grew up during the 60s and 70s. Our regime was simple: cleanse, condition, detangle and use of hair grease to condition and style our natural hair. I still use the same regime and my hair grows past my butt. Today, “Natural Hair” followers are doing way toooo much!!! The “Old School” regime is tried and true over many, many decades long before what’s called “The Natural Hair Movement.” Hell . . . It’s not a movement . . . It has always been here!!!

Sis, I applaud you for this assessment. I do have to say that Black people are not a subspecies of . We are not exceptional. Our bones, bone density, frame, and shape are that of a typical human being. We are not "built differently." Certainly, there are some genetic predispositions, but being Black does not make us fatter than other groups of people.

Thank you! 💜 We are exceptional. We are original. I would never imply us being sub anything. Others came from us. Our body composition can differ. Of course I'm not speaking of the extreme. I've seen women weighing 200lbs and were far from out of shape. But according to the BMI they'd be overweight. The weight the BMI wants me to be, I don't want to be lol. It's too small. Weight is not the only factor. However, I recognize this as an issue we have in our community and honestly America period. 💜

I know the excuses you make at the end have merit to some, but thankfully there were black people at the time who didn't give in to the idea that all things black=bad. I find it too difficult to reconcile celebrating someone as a black supermodel(first or otherwise) who tried so hard to distance herself from all things black.

There are also plenty of money and time saving options for food. Do the research crock pot meals air fryer sheet pan all on CZcams and IG. Diabetes, Cardiac Arrest, and strokes can and will come and will take you to the grave away from your family EARLY NO MATTER HOW body positive and confident you are.😊Please please there are too many resources these days to still be obese.

Women have told each other that being Obese is OK. Look back at photos and films from the 1960,s and 70’s . People were not as Obese then, far less. In my experience I see people eat the wrong foods, and drinks, they consume too much of it, and fail to exercise at all. The science is not different, it’s calories in, (consumption) and calories out ( burned). Fitness and health is the goal.

It was common practice on slave plantations. The video poster needs to research slave plantations and Black African-American museums artifacts. There are numerous books of lynchings with detailed descriptions of soverignor postcards and trickets, household furnishings, and clothing items of Black bodily parts, enslaved, free, and post-slavery, that were documented. I and another Black classmate, while on a 4th grade field trip, was almost tricked into touching an antique pillsbox purse and a man's booted laced wingstip shoe that were made of enslaved person's tanned skin. The White museum curator and one of the White teacher's held us back from the rest of the predominately White classmates and separated us from our class buddies. I knew not to touch the off limits "Do Not Touch" area but my Black male classmate (actually from a neighboring class) was being coerced and was finally reaching when my White teacher walked in and the interruption startled the museum curator and my White teacher's coworker. Yet she was curious also if we would touch the tanned Black human skin. I was not going to do. There was an dark evil shadow about those White women. It was a sick twisted power of holding back the two Black kids from two different classeds and attempting to force the girl to touch the purse and the boy the shoe. And when that didn't work they removed the items from the display the stand and was pushing them almost onto my little skinny chest when my teacher walked into the archway. I raised my hand in a defensive position and may have brushed the shoe. I still cringe and it's been decades. It was such a morbid thing to do.

Being photographed by Francesco Scavulo was s great step in the world of modeling, and the most glamorous magazines. I understand why she changed her nsme, and also her struggle. Unfortunately, as many other models had some scars and preferred to create some new surroundings and fantasies around them. But the real identity keeps, for s reason or another. It could be for discrimination, for covers interest to attract more viewers, or simply for being authentic. Wrong part. Some models felt down due to the consumption of drugs as dangerous of heroine. 15 times in a clover tell us how much her image attracted. Black supermodels must continue in this fashion business. They are like icons, their taller, their skin, long legs, and other characteristics make the great difference. , How about models being from a same race, and physically alike?

The Tignon Law wouldn't have affected most African Americans, let along any modern ones. And it's absurd to claim it's affected any modern AA regarding their hair. It was a Spanish law from the 1700's that eventually was also a law in New Orleans by the French. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UNITED STATES. Also, the law didn't require anyone to only wear the headscarf but also allowed natural hair as well. Also, "there is no evidence it was ever enforced and the women who followed the law turned the headdress into a "mark of distinction". So, to use this as an EXCUSE for why AA have been condition to cover or hide their hair is ABSURD. The reason why you cover your hear is mostly due to comparing yourselves to white women and hating your own natural hair.

    • @Leif208
      @Leif208 Před měsícem

@@lakeside321 Only extreme hair styles are banned at some work places, but it's the same for ANY RACE. For example, if a white woman dyed her hair an unnatural color or shaved the sides, etc. Braids ARE NOT banned at any work place or school, but especially neither is your natural hair. No one has ever stopped you from wearing your natural hair (except I'm not sure you all remember what your natural hair is, anymore. It's your hair as it naturally grows out of your head, without any style, just a natural afro). You all are welcome to wear your natural hair any time you want, without any banning nor any criticism. In fact, the only criticism you'll get from from other black women. The reason the "work place hair banning" excuse is used is because black women want to straighten their hair (or wigs, etc.) without having to admit they imitating white women, by claiming they're being "forced" because of work place rules. You can wear your natural afro hair anytime with no problem. No one is stopping you (except yourselves).
