A Visit to Lawrence Welk's birthplace in Strasburg, North Dakota with Jeff Borger
Here is my tour of Lawrence Welk's boyhood home in Strasburg, ND. I get to play an old (rather broken down) accordion in his dining room and a guest champagne lady who was also touring the house at the time sings along to the Julida Polka! The Welk Homestead is a great place to visit even if it is quite remote. No wonder Lawrence left the farm!

Nice touch with the polka Jeff. Lawrence would be proud!
This air check is from Sunday June 12, 1989.
Father’s Day 1989
and he caused major sales for a lot of hot nike gear…
Wonderful, Adding to my Quiet Time playlist.
I remember my mom singing doggie in the window.driving with her on her chores I was 7.she even did the barking sounds I looked at her with the puzzled face.God I miss those days 😢
Great memories. Glad we can relive the music here!
good stuff, i love the positivity, WRZN forever!
Gene Martin loved your video. He lives in NC now and is retired. Let me know how you and I can get together sometime to talk!
Same story for me in a different town. We had a station with a similae format. Found it as a teenager around 1998 and always enjoyed these songs and style ever since.
Hope you enjoy the many airchecks on my channel
It could have been the same program. Just different call letters.
Was wondering how CKLW sounded during their K-800 years. They switched to news/talk when I was 3 years old, so I don't remember them being a station that played music. I definitely recognize the first song.
Glad you enjoyed it! I have a lot of similar airchecks on my channel so if you like that format, give them a listen.
Jeff, you should do some live streams here on your channel playing selections from your record collection of that nice old music, and give your knowledge, like you did back with Gene Martin on the show 🙂 ithat would be awesome.
There a so many airchecks on here that you can keep busy for a long long time listening to them! I would love to do such a show but am afraid the copyright police would not cooperate. You would be surprised what had to be edited out of even the old shows I have on here! Thank you for your kind comments.
🙂 no woman is going to make him sell his Elvis memorabilia.. this was a good listen.
Glad you liked the podcast. Steve is hilarious and I hope folks are enjoying this even if a wife doesn't surface for him!
I’ll be 60 in oct. This music brings me back to the mornings before school.hearing this music on the radio.
Hi Joe. I just turned 60 so we are young whippersnappers to this kind of music. Hope you can listen to the many other airchecks I have on my channel!
@@hansjeffborger8038 I enjoy them them they bring back lots of good memories as I look thru picture albums.Thats another thing that the younger generation won’t have .Unless they look thru old cell phones lol.
He's my favorite German singer. I have 6 CDS of his music.
Hi Mr. Jack. Glad you enjoyed the Heino show. I have a few more Heino videos on my channels so I hope you enjoy them.
Thanks my friend, this is all totally new music I've never heard before. I put this on every night, it gives me good dreams. I'm a big fan Hans.
Hans! I've been enjoying the old WRZN content, i didn't know about all the other videos and music. I'm a big fan of this relaxing content.
Glad you found my channel. Yes there are hours of good stuff on here!
Vivian passed away in 1979 so for Lucy, this was very fresh. I can understand why her tone became more emotional.
Fantastic! The best of the best. Even well into the '60s many of these artists were creating this kind of music and works of art. I don't recall "Hello Detroit" but it's better than "LA Is My Lady" which got more play on the Los Angeles affiliate. No doubt music was more positive and sweeter in those days.
Please listen to my many other music of your life airchecks! You will love them. Many are from WLUS in Gainesville, FL
Thankful for this rebroadcast. Great selection of songs with many old favorites. I listened to a 'Music of Your Life' station in Los Angeles in the late '70s-early '80s. What I miss the most are AM stations based on this music in mono with no need for a computer. We had two stations in the area. There was a transmitting antenna a couple of miles south of us you could see at night. We also had a couple of first class classical stations. Most have switched formats like the FM stations and it's hard to find a station worth listening to. Thankfully a lot has been archived and now available for us and future generations. P.S. I remember those "inventor's kit" ads. Lol.
Enjoy my many other music of your life radio airchecks
Good to have a reminder that Men have a right to be in good shape .. and show the rest of us how it is done. Fitness is a Men's realm.
So true
@Vport FACTS!!!💯
Interesting that Westinghouse was one of the sponsors here. Later they would sponsor Desilu Playhouse and eventually would own CBS(and I Love Lucy).
Hmm. I thought it was a sustaining show without sponsors
Canada had great talent! Only they all had to go the States to 'make it'. What voices! Even operatic, and obviously well rehearsed. We still have great talent but can stay home a little more and are now internationally known. The most 'beautiful woman' in the world, seen here, was Yvonne DeCarlo was from B.C. Something wrong with the world that doesn't have songs like 'The Eyes of God' anymore.
I’ve been doing a deep dive into this man. When I was a kid, I had an old lady friend who always watched his show. I’d visit her and watch and loved the show. Great memories
Be sure to watch the documentary on my channel called “Lawrence Welk: Television’s Music Man”
My aunt used to sing “Never on a Sunday” to my uncle at family cookouts.they were wonderful together until the end.we played that song at her funeral. He passed 2 years before her since they were together up in heaven it seemed appropriate.❤
Adding this to my playlist of easy listening stations. Thanks!
This was used as a nursery school on grand River. I went there in 1974. It was a great school! I heard since it was moved to another location…but no record of it.
Music Of Your Life was a really great format and perfect for the Tampa market at that time.
I grew up watching L Welk ... But then I learned that he fired Alice Lon for showing knees, and fired Cissy and Natalie Nevins .... seems he was a Perfectionist ... and a purest and a demander ....
I watch alot of the reruns of this wonderful show. I played the Accordion for many years as well as the Hammond Organ. Music makes a person happy. It is with sad news that so many of the musicians have passed away. (CA)
Wonderful entertainer with a beautiful voice. I miss her shows ❤
Anyone know what ever became of Jim Davis? My grandparents listened to this station, and a couple of bus drivers from back in those days listened as well. That’s where I found out about Jim Davis.
Rest assured it wasn't just seniors who enjoyed WGUL. I enjoyed listening as well. And I found AM 860 when I was fifteen during a during a family trip to St. Petersburg in the summer of 1995. We were beginning to lose our Big Band/standards and beautiful music stations in Ohio by that time. So, it was a real boon to find WGUL proudly serving the Bay area and FM 103.5 WDUV providing instrumentals out of Bradenton, just south of the Bay area. Regrettably, WGUL-AM was sold almost twenty years ago to a religious outfit meaning that the Big Band and standards format is now gone even in the Bay area. And WDUV moved to the Bay area-ironically at FM 105.5, the dial position held by WGUL in this aircheck-and changed its format from beautiful music to something more resembling adult contemporary. The period 2002-05 marked the end of an era for radio along the Suncoast. Thank you for posting these airchecks from a truly great station, WGUL.
I am searching for one tune from what I believe was featured on the Show, from March 3, 1974, the episode is "We Believe in Music" featuring husband and wife, Mary Lou Metzger, and Richard Maloof, in their duet, "Them There Eyes". Any help if you have it would be most appreciated! Thanks!
Jo Stafford has always been and will always be wonderful. I am so glad I had the honor of hearing her sing.
I spent my summers in the Gaylord area at my parents' cottage and remember WMBN with a lot of fond memories. I remember going to dinner in Petoskey or Charlevoix when we were up on weekends, and coming back to the cottage to listen to the Saturday Night Big Band Dance program.
Be sure to listen to my many big band band shows on here as well!
Thank you for uploading this. The Music of Your Life station always brought a sense of peace to my otherwise sad and difficult childhood.
Lots of Music of Your Life airchecks on here so be sure to listen to them all. Many are from WLUS in Gainesville
I remember the broadcasts, i live near the station. Im so happy you uploaded these old recordings. I listen to them a lot, it helps me sleep
How can you sleep through some of those rousing big band numbers?! ;)

Sounds good!
Sehr gutes Video! Danke
The syndicated version of The Lawrence Welk Show had a de facto flagship television station: KTTV Ch. 11 here in L.A. 📺👍😁
This broadcast is actually NOT from 1986. It's from Wednesday, September 30, 1987. The news story of Henry Ford II's death the previous day reveals that.
On the syndicated episodes I used to listen to about a decade or so ago, TMOYL would open with the same instrumental song. Sounded like Les Brown, or the like. And it wasn't the same one this one episode opened with. Would you, or anyone, happen to know it? Maybe they had a few different ones they used.
Thank you for posting this. My mom listened to a Denver variation on this format in the early 70s. It's very nostalgic for me, as it was for her!
Hope you listen to all of the airchecks on my channel as you can re-live the good old days!
great music
Thanks! Please listen to the many other fun airchecks and music on my channel!
I feel that the format would still be very viable in some markets if there was an investment in it (Naples, FL, Harbor Spring/Petoskey, MI, for example)
Not too sure of that Patrick since the main audience of music from that era has passed. For those of us who didn't grow up in the original years but love the music, I'm glad I have posted dozens of airchecks on my channel to enjoy. Too bad but those days are gone forever...
I am 40 years old and this along with its successor AM 580 CKWW were the music of the first 23 years of my life until they dropped the format in 2005.
Be sure to tune into all my MOYL segments here on my channel, many from WLUS. Glad to hear you are "only" 40. I'm pushing 60 and most of my generation never heard of this music!
Thank you for posting this clip. I remember Eddie Hubbard in Chicago in the 1960s and later caught up with his radio shows when he went on Satellite. He was a true gentleman, had a great sense of humor and was well liked by us older people. Also missed are Joe Lacina, Scott Reese and several other DJs who played all of this great music.
Yes he was one of a kind.

God what were they thinking in the 80’s
they were thinking "how can we sell more videotapes"
where have these shows been hiding? so glad they've been found.
