This is the first time we have danced this out, because of the difficulty in getting 8 dancers who know it reasonably well all together at one time. And we don't know what it's called because we've forgotten so any clues would be appreciated wychwayz.org/index.html

A short video to show the (non-dancing) doubters who said "You'll never be able to dance that out with only 1 more practise! Are all your practises that shambolic?" The processional was just fine, both the music and the dancing. wychwayz.org/index.html

    Hi, as one of the dancers in this footage I'd like to clarify a few of the points here. To be honest I can't remember who was drumming but knowing KBO it was probably one of the members' children (there are a fair few and they like to be involved!). Agreed, the drum is out of time (but thankfully not the dancers, phew), and this is probably not the best example of KBO on CZcams but this was posted by an audience member rather than the side. The person who posted it called it Lorenzo's Butterfly, KBO tends to call it Lozerene's Butterfly after one of the dancers in the side! Too Many Crumbs...your loyalty to KBO is admirable but there's no need to be rude - you're in danger of giving the wrong impression that KBO is grumpy and aggressive when it is a really lovely, friendly side!

    Well, the OP is a member of the team that created the dance, so she should know how it goes. Also, the name of the dance is "Lorenz's Butterfly", not "Lorenzo's". Your comment might have had more credibility if (a) you'd answered the point instead of just insulting people and (b) you'd shown some consideration for your readers by spending a couple of seconds on making your post readable.

    I'd love to know what they're singing. It sounds like "Will she? Won't she? Will she? Won't she? " but sadly the end is lost. Shades of Lewis Carol, no doubt, but I'd like to surprise them at Bristol's Nova Scotia pub folk club, even if it's only a short verse. It's such a nice tune!

    You're right about Alvechurch. I couldn't find a video, but they attribute the Broomsberrow song to Evesham on their web site - I've dropped them a note. Morris really is a game of Chinese Whispers. If you'd like to see the original dance, look on Silurian morris web site - there's a video there and it's spot on the original notation. You Tube won't allow me to post a link, so you'll have to Google their site.

  • @akkanellie
    @akkanellie Před 12 lety

    As I said, our side started out by copying some Alvechurch dances, I don't know how many exactly as we also have ex-Rogue dancers and some of our dances are borrowed from them (Brimfield in particular) Alvechurch do this dance (see their website) and call it Evesham Stick. I think the only difference between the way they do it and the way we do it is where the song is.

  • @JudithProctor
    @JudithProctor Před 12 lety

    I hasten to add that I've no problem with changes to dances. My side make changes to most dances that come our way, but there comes a point when the resemblance is so remote that a new name is really called for - especially when the dance is one of the few historical Border dances.

  • @JudithProctor
    @JudithProctor Před 12 lety

    The song "there ain't no hairs on our cat's tail" was originally recorded with Broomsberrow Heath. Mind you, I don't think any two sides do the same sticking on Evesham - though you're the first side I've seen using tips and butts. But if you change the chorus, change the tune and don't use the original figures, abandon the hanky in the left hand (though many sides do that), take out the arm swings and choose not to sing Fanny Frail, is there any point in still calling it 'Evesham'?

  • @akkanellie
    @akkanellie Před 12 lety

    Nope, not Bromsberrow Heath, we do that one as well sometimes. There is a video on here somewhere. Our tunes aren't always those that other people use though, which causes us a lot of problems if our musicians aren't available! But I think this dance was copied from Alvechurch when the side was started years before I joined.

  • @JudithProctor
    @JudithProctor Před 12 lety

    Doesn't look like the Evesham dance to me. Wrong tune and wrong sticking... Is it the Bromsberrow Heath dance?
