I don't know if the cause of death was radiation or not, they really seemed to have just die instantly. I tried out nukemap, and no bomb has a powerful enough yield to have a radiation radius that large. if this is radiation, than this would have been the biggest nuclear accident since Chernobyl. Imagine trying to recover the coil.

It can't be endless, because it's a pendulum. The way a pendulum moves makes it so that it has to have a point it hangs from.
