Love the idea of thinking of the tools as a color palette. I think it has so many parallels with how a painter shows personality through combinations of unique colors, just as a filmmaker can by through focusing on highlighting aspects of editing/sfx/lighting etc. It begs the question though: do you think you find your personality as a filmmaker through trying to maximize the use of your tools, where it feels like every detail is accounted for, like a meticulous passion project? Or by stripping that away to have a couple of tools take the forefront (my mind goes to lighting and music first) as a way to really drive the story you want to tell?
