Prescribed Burn: Land Management Through Controlled Fire | Conservation Education
🔥 SUBSCRIBE NOW: tinyurl.com/rmgfe3l
All forest fires are NOT created equal. A prescribed burn, or controlled fire, is a powerful land management tool used by forest services workers and private land owners that mimics a natural ecological process and creates improved conditions for wildlife, their habitats, and for people. For fire-adapted ecosystems, it's essential.
We have touched on the subject in several episodes, but have never fully drilled down and featured a burn itself until now. And YES, the smoke turned on Peter midway through the take. Mistakes were made. 😅
Sadly, this is the last episode for a while. We're seeking partners for additional stories, so if you'd like to talk about Wild Wander spreading good word for your organization, contact info@macroscopepictures.com

    The only part that matters is that they are not venomous. In All the other ways that matter, a legless lizard is essentially a snake.

    0:39: False. Snakes are squamata just like all other lizards. It is impossible to form a monophyletic group of lizards without including snakes, ergo snakes are lizards. They also have fused eyelids, not "no eyelids."

    It’s amazing how society survived back in those days and look it up today. 2024 people can’t go without their phones TVs you name it computers. This country has gone in my opinion gone to shit. It’s so screwed up. Sometimes I think we need to get rid of all these electronics and go back to the old days when you had to actually survive to live.

    Thanks for sharing this. Its funny that out west, we still refer to scars on the base of trees as cat faces. One note on terminology: "sap" is generally reserved for the sugar-water-tree food that a tree makes through photosynthesis. "Resin" on the other hand is the protective compound a tree makes to drive off insects and seal wounds against rot, which is also what makes it valuable for naval stores.

    I've been learning about the healing properties of pine, the gum spirits, pine pollen and resin for health, beauty and healing. What a majestic magical tree. The tree heals itself and can help us heal too. And it can be done more ethically unlike some of the past pine industry take. Cool history video. Just subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    A big problem with the world is the desire of money. Two men see a pine tree. One will think of all the ways they can make a profit from that tree, usually to the detriment of the tree and surrounding environment. The other man is humbled by the size and wonder of one of natures beings. A majestic pine tree that started life as a tiny seed. One that has survived many a storm, many a trial. A being that deserves to be left to continue to live, unmolested.

      They don't run or grow legs. They essentially slither, as you can see in the video. We don't film with scripts, so occasionally we use phrases like that that aren't as accurate as they'd be if this was completely scripted. However, we hope that the "off-the-cuff" presentation is more interesting than something that's memorized and stiff.

    Hello, Wild Wander I'm from East Texas and I ordered longleaf pine seedlings since I didn't have any on my land. But since you are a specialist, I have a few question about the following: Q1.Are leaf cutter ants a big threat to longleaf pines (I see loblolly and shortleaf pines survive with the presence of leaf cutter ants) Q2.What type of soil should I use when I look up longleaf pines they say they do good in a variety of soils. I have rich dark rich soil, red clay, brown clay, and sand. Which would be the best. Thanks, WhoWuzHerre

    • @peterkleinhenz
      @peterkleinhenz Před 8 měsíci

      1. Leaf-cutter ants won't have an impact on any longleaf pines you plant. 1. Longleaf grows in sand, clay, and even rocky soils. However, the key is that you don't want the roots to get too wet. They have that long tap root for a reason...to go down deep to get water. Based on what you described, the sandy soil would be the best place to start your plantings.
