    Buen trabajo! Contento is more a temporary state of mind whereas feliz is more permanent. Yo puedo estar contento ahora (see that we always use it with the verb estar). Yo soy feliz. (We tend to use it with the verb ser). At least that's how we use these two adjectives in Spain.

      I no longer utilize TPRS. I'm interested in native-like acquisition of languages and not interlanguage acquisition. I switched to the Dreaming Languages Method found at dreamingspanish.com. I've done 1500 hours of input and I'm moving to Spain in a few weeks. But I've left these videos up as they might help those who don't mind interlanguage acquisition.

    Here goes my try at trying to learn Spanish and Italian at the same time! I figure if Spanish people get confused and slip in their own words sometimes into Italian and visa versa, it is okay for me to make mistakes ... the whole point it to be able to communicate ... and I will at some point hear my own mistakes and correct them. I think each language will help enforce the other one. Living in Texas, I am excited to actually have people to speak Spanish with, whereas I might only get to Italy every 3-5 years (in hopes of one day, God willing, to live in Italy 3 months out of every year!)     I notice the girl whom you didn't correct in the first class, and in fact, praised her for her misuse of "ser" and "estar" made the same mistake again. At 14:10, you allow the error and praise her yet again for the same mistake. She made the same mistake for the second time and I see it's day 2. You are allowing her to build a faulty foundation and even worse, you are encouraging it. You praised her on day 1 and so she thinks her use of "Ser/Estar" is correct. PLEASE! When you hear your student make a mistake, stop the student immediately. Don't even let them finish the sentence or the thought. This allows them to know right where their mistake is. Correct it by taking the word they used, and using it properly in another sentence. She used "estar" instead of "ser" - "Tú estás chico #2". Then you responded with "Correcto". Correct the error and make sure there is understanding, then revisit the same question again. At this point, I see you are teaching without any translation. But the content is misunderstood and on top of that, encouraged. This is damaging. I hope the ideas that I give you are helpful in correcting your student's errors. There are fun and encouraging ways of correcting students without destroying their confidence. In my comments, I hope that I am not destroying yours either, but that I'm giving you encouraging ways to present the content and confidently correct students' errors. What I would do is, point out Chica #1 and chica #2. "So-and-So, Tú ERES una chica. Tú ERES..." Make movements and gestures to help understand. Perhaps for the first ERES you say in the sentence, flutter your fingers as you wave your hands up and down your body. The second time, perhaps put your hand on your hip and fluff your hair with your other hand, tilt your head. Exaggerate all of the stereotypes. make it comical for the class. Both times, pounce on "ERES" and really drag it out. This allows her to focus on what you're trying to make her understand. Mimic putting on make up. Continue on by saying, "Tú ERES la chica #1" Pause for a second, repeat the first two statements fairly quickly before talking about in which city/state chica #1 is located. "Tú eres una chica y Tú eres la chica #1! Slow down and say, "Tú ESTÁS en ... ." Make a drastic hand gesture as if you are emphatically showing the students on a map in front of you. Maybe make a claw, act like your slamming it down on a map. Make sure you do the gestures on the words that you are trying to correct. Do the same for Chica #2. Then focus attention on boy #1. "George, Tú ERES un chico." Make muscles on the word ERES, then make movements in exaggerated ways for understanding. Drastically pull your shoulders back, then slam them downwards, stick out your chest, raise your chin up; exaggerated like a matador. Any stereotypical gestures to help with understanding. "George, Tú ERES chico #1, ... SOY chico #2 y Tú ERES chico #1!" Pause and then give the "Estar" statement. "George, Tú ESTÁS en Wisconsin." Again, make the gesture on the imaginary map in front of you on the word "ESTÁS". At this point, it's okay to address non-actors. "So-and So, Tú ESTÁS en..", "What's-your-name, Tú ESTÁS en..." making the hand gestures on the imaginary map. Get both hands involved. Show "So-and-so on the map with one hand. Leave it there and show "What's-your-name" with the other hand displaying both cities or states. Address the mistakes right away and correct them until they understand. If you move on when they don't comprehend, then you allow them to build upon an unsteady foundation. It's much more difficult to correct when you've encouraged the wrong information. Lastly, if they still don't understand, use English. One of the best memory aids to help people understand these two verbs 80% of the time is a little rhyme. "How you feel, and Where you are; That's when you use the verb ESTAR". I hope these ideas help you. ; I wish much success for you and your students.

      The idea of TPRS is not correcting. People don't gramatically correct babies when they make mistakes, but later on they understand the mistake by either listening to others or asking.

      @@Jaaz7 I understand not correcting babies. Adults are not babies. They have a developed cognizance. The use of "ser" vs. "estar" is quite difficult for an Anglophone. I don't believe in letting the students continue on with a misunderstanding or praising the mistake. I feel the best way to correct is is through a positive run through of content. Positive reinforcement can help "Geroge, Tu ERES de...!" " Geroge, tu ESTAS en...Ahora!" Pointing out the places. It reconfirms with the student. The students already have the knowledge where the boy is from and where he is now. Circling the two statements and asking questions using the two words can further push the proper uses into the memory. "Geroge, ERES tu de...?" Follow up, "Siiii, Tu ERES de...!" Celebracion! "George, ESTAS tu en....Ahora?" "Siiiii, tu ESTAS en ... ahora, tu no ERES en .... ahora! Es ridiculo" Tu ERES de ..." Celbratcion! I can't t believe that a teacher or method would not use correcting at all. It would be irresponsible not to correct as a teacher. If the student is unaware that they a mistake (and in fact think that it is correct), how do they know to ask for correction? The mistake is fine, as long as they know to self-correct. I've been researching and using this method more and more. It really does work. However, you must stop a bad habit before it becomes something solidified as correct in the student's mind. This is irresponsible. It's much harder to undo. As adults, it is harder to reverse and correct when it's solidified incorrectly. Children are different. Their minds are different. This student from the praise the day before now thought that this was correct. She used it again. You don't want that solidified in her head. i should HOPE that you agree with this correcting method. From what I've researched and how I'm using it, it appears to fall inline with this teaching method.

    As I watch your videos to learn new methods of teaching, I again want to say I love your teaching style. I think you have an awesome personality and a drive to share. I just want to say be careful as you are teaching. Make notes and double-check, them to make sure all of the content that you are presenting is correct. Being a teacher requires a lot of responsibility because you can teach bad habits and wrong information. Teaching elementary mistakes at such an elementary level, your students create a bad foundation. For instance, At marker 10:57 you teach a noun-adjective error. "Las personas" is feminine so the question word "Cuánto" must agree. You gave the plural form but missed the gender agreement to the noun. Cuánto/Cuánta/Cuántos/Cuántas is an adjective question word that must agree with its noun. ¿Cuánto dinero? ¿Cuánta gasolina? Remember, the noun is the KING! You taught the masculine form for a feminine noun. We must use "Cuántas" for feminine plural nouns. ¿Cuántas personas hay? Since you have ¿Cuántos? on the screen, I would start with the vocabulary that they already know - Chicos/(Chicas). And then introduce new vocabulary. Start with "Chicos" since it agrees with "Cuántos". ¿Cuántos chicos hay? After the answer, then let the students hear what happens when you ask ¿Cuántas chicas hay? You're still introducing "Cuántos/cuántas" to them but with familiar words to attach to them. Then you can start to sail away a bit by asking "¿Cuántas personas hay?" "You have an amazing gift to teach with this method, but just make sure that the information you present is correct. We as teachers have that responsibility. I'm definitely taking your teaching method with me! :-)

    I was searching for new ways to teach more effectively. I really love this style/method. I am mostly watching to learn the method for teaching rather than to learn Spanish. I have constructive criticism that I hope you're open to. For instance, there is a very big subject-verb agreement error around 53:15. The question is, "¿Quién es chico #1, chico, #2, chica #1 y chica #2?" This question addresses multiple people in one clause. The subjects are boy 1, boy 2, girl 1 and girl 2. So there are 4 people as the subject of this sentence/question. The proper question should have been, "¿Quiénes son chico #1, chico #2, chica #1 y chica #2?" A quick pronoun replacement and you have "Who are they?/¿Quiénes son ellos?" The question presented in this video translates as, "Who is (they)?" It's just you are calling out the individual subjects that make up "they". It appears that your lesson is about singular pronouns and their conjugations. I can see you have not discussed plural forms with your students in this lesson. I would have asked 4 separate questions since you were looking for 4 separate answers. "¿Quién ES chico #1? ¿Quién ES chico #2? "¿Quién ES chica #1? y ¿Quién ES chica #2?" Next, one of your students didn't have a complete understanding of "ser" vs. "estar". I believe it is best to stop a student immediately and address the error when it happens. For instance, at marker 53:23, your student uses "estar" when she should have used "ser". She responds, "Chico numero uno ESTÁ George. Tu' ESTÁS chico #2...", You let her continue using "estar". Then you praised her for the error and didn't correct it. Cut her off immediately after the error. Address the error with a fun tone. For example, "Noooo, no ESTÁAAA' el chico #1. Chico #1 ESTÁAA in Summerville, CA". Back up to the slide and show her the lesson about "ser". Repeat your question emphasizing "Ser". "¿Quién ESSSS chico numero 1?" The screen shows "El chico ES George." Additionally, you have the singular conjugation chart displayed as well. This action allows her to figure out her own mistake. After she corrects her mistake, give another "ser" question or statement for reinforcement. Continue clarification between the two verbs by asking her an "estar" question or making an "estar" statement. Self-corrections are more fulfilling and rewarding for oneself and she will have a better understanding if you give her the opportunity to understand her own mistake. After she corrects herself, then you should praise her for positive reinforcement. Smile big, clap (or whatever you feel is appropriate), and give her an energetic "¡Síííííí...Sí, sí, sí!" Then let her continue. What I saw here is that you allowed the student to continue with the wrong verb. Next, you praised her for the wrong verb and told her that it was perfect. At this point, she doesn't understand that she made the error. Other than that, I LOVE your teaching method. I think I will try using this to see how it goes. We have criteria and curriculum that we are supposed to use and our lesson plans revolve around the curriculum. I'm going to have to be creative using new vocabulary from the given criteria.
