New Halcyon Rebreather and more - 5mins at Boot 2024
#divegue #halcyon #rofos #doktorben #boot2024
Hey everyone! Welcome back to the channel, where today I'm taking you through an amazing journey at the Boot 2024 Trade Show. This place is the epicenter of diving innovation in Europe, and you won't believe what I found from crazy, useless gear, over medium innovations like Rofo's new ring system to something that blew my mind: Halcyon's newest gem, a Chest-Mounted Rebreather.
Imagine having a rebreather that's not just cutting-edge but also perfect for divers who love to travel or in need of a small exploration tool. That's exactly what Halcyon delivered with it's new Rebreather. It's compact, it's ingenious, especially with its easy-to-use BOV that you can just twist to activate. Whether you're planning to use it as an oxygen rebreather or opting for a full eCCR, this new rebreather is up for the task.
But that's not all. Halcyon blew my mind with their dive computer that simplifies everything with a clear heads-up display - and both even connect wirelessly to the new rebreather. And if you're into tailoring your gear, their new rubber fins with removable weights and adjustable spring straps are something you'd want to check out. It feels like they've thought of everything!
Why am I buzzing with excitement? Because I was there, soaking it all in, talking to the innovators, and getting the lowdown on all this cool gear. I've captured everything to bring you up close and personal with the future of diving.
So, if you haven't already, hit that subscribe button, and let's embark on this tech-filled journey together. The ocean is vast and filled with wonders, and I'm here to discover them one dive at a time. Catch you in the deep blue!

    I am on the path of moving from a provisional to rec (tech?) pass on fundies. If the diver is responsible for adjusting deco plans based on in-dive inputs, how do you maintain a team assent? While the team may have experienced much the same, there could be some differences and at least different reassessments. Does this require reaching a consensus calling for end of dive? Is there a way to determine which divers chose profile will govern all?

  • @DanielRicardo42

    There's an odd discrepancy in the course prerequisites between Rec3 and Tech1 (and Cave1 for that matter). While Rec3 requires at least 25 dives after the Fundamentals course, Tech1 has no such requirement and can theoretically be taken immediately after fundies - why is that?

    Im awaiting my first ccr unit. Main reasons for me: - I’m fairly susceptible to depth narcosis. Trimix is way too expensive to be diving every single time I want to go to 30/40 meters. On the CCR it’s easy and “affordable”. - My main-buddy uses around 50% of the air I’m using. Diving deep is possible, but I’m the limiting factor for duration. - I’ve had a trip to the deco chamber once before after some deeper wreck diving. I can’t wait to be doing optimal decos with a fixed set point. - You look cool also f%}%ck with a ccr strapped to your back 😎 I

    The problem with rechargeable lithium ion batteries is imho not so much that they discharge over time. The real problem here is that you charge your backup light to 100% and then "never" use it, leading to the battery being stored for months or years at (almost) full charge. This is a bad situation for a li-ion battery and causes it to deteriorate.

    This video starts out by trying to prove that bar*liter does not exist or is a valid unit and tries to prove it by answering a different question: - What volume 200 bar in a 12 liter cylinder would expand to on the surface at 1 bar. It's not about depth, it's about duration. It's about footprint. It's about waste. It's about flexibility. Sure, you can go deeper, longer, but that's a benefit that not many will be able to take advantage of. You could make your same argument about justifying drysuit vs. wetsuit. Just dive less and you don't need a dry suit right... It's nonsensical for anyone more serious about diving. If you're worried about the financial sensibility about diving, just don't dive. Also nonsensical.

    Having only 1 seam is actually worse. As the SMB spends most of its time rolled up somewhere and getting bumped around, having a sturdy seam protects the fabric, as it's also already under stress because it's folded over. You're calling the seam the weak spot, but i'm pretty sure it's actually the opposite. And in the end, EVERYTHING is manufactured in China anyways, including the Halcyon one. It just depends on how much you're willing to pay for the little brand badge on there.

    • @pbillings808
      @pbillings808 Před 5 měsíci

      In general, the topoff proportion is the ratio of the nitrogen content in the desired to that of the topoff. For example, for a desired 18/30 (nitrogen=52%) and topping off with air (nitrogen=79%), the topoff proportion is T = 52/79 = 66%. In this case with only one source of helium, things are simple: you know the helium added must equal the desired: 30% helium. The oxygen is whatever is left over: with 30% helium and 66% topoff, you need 4% oxygen. In general, though, the required pure gas is the desired fraction minus the topoff*mix. In this case of air topoff (mix=21%), the oxygen proportion is O = 0.18 - 0.66*0.21 = 4% (as we saw before). Similar for helium. (The general approach is needed if you're topping off with trimix. Also, a negative answer means it's impossible with that topoff mix. For example, you can't get 18/30 by topping off with 32%.)

I’ve never tried having two side by side canisters myself. I haven’t seen it addressed in any GUE materials so I’m curious. Also the Santi canisters have a shorter EO cord than most light canister EO cords..what are your thoughts on that? Last question is a pitkin controller to adjust output to heating system and prolong run time..I’ve got one I picked up at the GUE conference auction but I haven’t used it as I’m still researching heating vests/gloves/additional battery from Santi but your opinion is important to me. Thanks!

      Well…thanks for the question and valuing my opinion. I personally wear two canisters on the right side. Another option would be to use a canister with two cables. Both has advantages and disadvantages, but I like two canisters more. I personally do not use a controller, but I don’t see a real problem with it. It’s nice to be able to control the heating.
