Here's My take on Road To Columbus. I pulled some of the sounds from Noam Pikelny's version and just made up the rest using typical melodics/improv. Twist To Open and 3 Piece Safety Razors Compared
I'm fairly new to using a safety razor and have struggled to get a good lather, so this really helped. And as a Brit, I could listen to John's voice all day - beautiful smooth Southern accent!
Boiled linseed oil offers excellent protection. I coated 20 ft deck over trailer until it quit soaking in. Used 4 gallons. I only did it once and trailer is now 20 yrs old. Never replaced a single board. I don't even have a single board with any rot! I'm a firm believe. I don't care what anybody says, I go with my personal experience. It works!
You suck at giving tutorials
Dang man you can play! Great stuff
Best review I've seen thus far. Good recommendations with using different blades.
Smart !
The Gibson has the growl! I’d choose it. Great video. Thank you.
Awesome your back!!!
Lookin like young Garcia
As an experienced guitar player and complete noob on the banjo, I just have to say I so appreciate your videos I just discovered. I'm just getting started and I had problems with my picks falling off and trying to figure out how to hold my hand and just all of it. And your no nonsense, intelligent approach - not dumbing it down method is just perfect for me. I thank you so much. You saved me so much time just now! 👍
I wish I lived near you to take lessons. I'm near Boston, and I had lessons with Gabe Hirshfeld, and tonight I have a lesson with BB Bowness. You are definitely my style. 😊
What banjo do you use?
Rozdiel minimálny obe banja zneju rovnako
Bravo et merci 😊
Also, IMHO, as hard as u pick I thing ur tone would be awesome if u used an 11 guage on first and fifth and 12 on second and 13 on third, which happens to be what "The King of Tone" Sonny Osborne used
Love how u incorporate Josh's licks into the high part!
Beautifully played, but, for me, just a little too fast.
Hey its Al Capone over here
just found your channel. great content! i am new to banjo, but i play clawhammer. have been watching some of your chord videos.......and chicken coop! LOL keep up the great work.
Welcome back, John. It’s been a long, long stretch without videos. Best wishes from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Wow! Bro you are a master picker! I'll be slowing this one down 4 sure.
Great video, John! Happy to see you back
Nice
I bought the Recording King because of the price of Gibsons. I love the Rk but, the Gibson has the old feel classic banjo sound to my ear.
Just brilliant.
Very good music, but I have to tell you one thing, I hate a banjo with a dirty head like your banjo has, is it really a problem to clean this really beautiful banjo? Thank you on behalf of your banjo. Bye and have a nice day.
Thanks for helping me start to learn banjo!
Thank you very much! Didn't know about alcohol🔥🔥🔥
Thats a.beautiful looking instrument! Is it all ebony appointed? What brand of bridge? Not in immediate market forbut like to be informed of potential new instruments. Thanks very much!😅
Great picking-Got that old time sound!
Im a professional banjo player and i never got into this song until now thank you sir.
Very good information
It's 2024 and im still using the old style VH boar's hair. I've almost got it broken in and I love how it feels.
I have the Gibson Scruggs Standard. Both sound great, but different. I might have to get the RK-75 to keep my two Gibson's company!
Clean and clear, God bless you máster!
Thanks to preserve kindest legacy....Earl is The best and you are too Good enough too, máster...
Can you put a video or instructions on how to make your own?
Get a Rockwell 6C. It has six levels of aggression. Great razor!
Great pick!!!...congrats
nice work, however i cant even cover the frets without covering two strings at the same time, oh the of being a new player
I wonder how the Recording King RK-R35 would sound compared to the Gibson since it's maple as well?
I love how this says beginner. This is definitely not beginner lol.
Hi John I liked them both for me though the Rk is my pick
So awesome! Thank You
Your playing is awesome, however yor playing like your're in a big hurry for something. Slow it down just a tad. Playing guitar for over 50 years I too have to re-hear some songs I've been playing for years just to put me back in check. It's hard to hear it yourself until you hear the original again. I do love your playing as I don't hold a candle to yours...
this is about the same tempo as the flatt and scruggs version if im not mistaken
Playing it way to fast compared to how I hear it! Still awesome
You couldn't do a lesson on silver bells the one that's in Earl Scruggs old book as a duet to this The lesson was great thanks
Gibson! Hands down!😂
you could drill a screw into the bottom of the wood a little bit that would make the hole no?
Like minds. I was leaning towards a small dowel.
I like the rifle trees in the background. I’m sure it keeps the riffles shooting straight.
