Valve Clearance Inspection: shim under bucket - YZ250F

I recently rebuilt the motor on a 2004 YZ250F dirtbike. If you own any larger cc dirt bike, chances are a valve adjustment is coming up around the corner for you. DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR VALVE ADJUSTMENT. Failure to stay on top of a valve inspection service can cause your bike to be extremely difficult to start or can wear engine components out prematurely.

I've always done it a different way by warming the bike up and then setting the idle at a high point so it won't die, then turning air/fuel mixture screw either way and listen to the revs going up until it hits the spot where the revs drop. Once I found that spot I turn it back by a few millimeters. Then I bring back the idle screw to idle revs and blip the throttle a few times and listen to what you mention.

Two cents: i put a piece of tape stickiing out at the screwdriver in order not to mess up the rotations. Do not use force when you srew it all in, in one case a dlicate tip of the screw broke, and remove the screw before, to check and replace the O-Ring.

So I just bought a 2012 gsxr600 from a man in SC. Come to find out the NAM ( Not actual mileage) title was a rebuilt title from a crash in 2013. I’m in Georgia and need to get my bike inspected before I can transfer the title over and get tags and registration. The odometer doesn’t work and the speedometer strays on 0 but everything else works in the dash like the high beams, signal indicators, tachometer, neural light, gear indicator, gas light. Will I fail because of this? What will happen if I show up to a state inspector without a license plate? I have proof of insurance and the title with my name as the buyer and the sellers name and address in it

Nice tips painting the engine parts. 👍 I have a Yamaha RX 135cc with a 2 stroke motor, lying in storage for nearly 4 years now. The piston is seized. I need to unseize it. As about the cylinder head, the metallic coating / painting has chipped off in a few places. Do I need to get it painted with heat resistive special paint or any other procedure to get this back to its original stock condition? Thanks

i used a tapered cork for the gas cap, when sealing i used WD40 Gel on the petcock screws and fabricated another stopper out of cork for the mainflow of petcock. i didnt let the tank dry completely or i didnt let the rust blast created good enough etching so i am reducing it and am stripping the previous coating. some parts did a better job with adhesion than others so its gonna need another strip and once im finished with that im gonna do the steps again in order and seal it up! i sat with my tank for 2-3 hours with a blow dryer

Excellent job. You earned a subscribe. I always tried to get the highest idle using the mixture screws and avoid rev hang and bog but now it's all becoming clear. Chasing an ornery old Rm250 jetting issues I found there's some things that can also affect idle problems. Leaks on the stator side crank seal lets in air while clutch side crank seals can suck in tranny oil. Cracks in the rubber intake manifold or loose bolts are bad. A worn ledge can form on the idle and mix screws where they seal or touch the slide. A worn carb slide can leak air. You should hear a click as the throttle slide hits the idle screw when you open the throttle and let go. Make sure the throttle pipe(under the grip) is clean and the cable routed properly and not pinched. Have a clean air filter and silencer for stable air flow. Braaap!
