I remember having this s**t tier version of this movie from Walmart. It came with an Andrew Lloud Webber "best of" CD. Looping the same musical track over and over even where it wasn't appropriate. Good times...😂

Excellent piece of archive. The added music was spot on and mood changing. However the little child should have had the ink pots taken away. That almost ruined this historical treasure, on a par with spray painting Tutankhamen's tomb to make it more interesting.

*i'm here. this is the 4th version of Phantom that i'll be watching. 1st was the live musical, then 1962, then 1989. after this, i'll be watching the 2004 one.

Amo la película casi completamente; el maquillaje, el tinte oscuro y el terror son dignas recreaciones de la novela original PERO el final es terrible. No sé porque nunca se adapta el final de esta fantástica novela al pie de la letra. Tengo entendido que para esta película se hizo el final más apegado a la historia original pero al público de prueba no le gustó y por eso decidieron cambiarlo, algo que honestamente me parece un error. Quiero pensar que la audiencia en ese tiempo era diferente y buscaban algo con que aterrorizarse. En particular me hubiera encantado ver el final original y más apegado al libro de Gaston Leroux ♡

After all these years, I finally watched this version and honestly, after 100 years later, it still holds up really well! I was really surprised. I usually find it a bit hard to stay focused while watching a silent film, but I was quite captivated during many of the scenes. And Lon Chaney still commands our attention, even after all these years. This is a small thing, but I love how Christine saved herself from the Phantom by jumping out of the carriage at the end. I was expecting someone else to save her, but no, she saved herself! That is SO progressive for 1925! I liked that she wasn't a complete damsel in distress and showed some bravery and courage, which was very unexpected for a film of this era. It's just a small part of the film, but it really sealed the deal for me.

What a phenomenal film

On Saturday, the Yakima Symphony orchestra is presenting this with the background being music by the Yakima Chorale. They did Nosferatu in the same way last year. I'd love to see it, but our schedule has conflicts. Guess I'll cuddle up and watch it on my own! Of course, it won't be the same. Still, I can eat popcorn here and I can't at the Symphony. :)

I just noticed the scenes in Christine's room R in pretty rough shape, I'm guessing this was cut for some time & put back later.

What I really like about these films being on YT, U can pause the vid & actually read the txt cards, & U can speed up the vid if U feel like it's moving too slow.
