Awesome tiny vintage lens for 10 bucks! Industar 50-2 3.5/50mm
In this episode I'd like to introduce you to the Industar 50-2, an ultra-affordable soviet 50mm vintage lens that, despite its minimalist design, should not be underestimated!
Please note that a small mistake has crept into the video: The lens has 7 aperture blades, not 6, as described at 00:59!

The Helios wide angle lens? Mir-1 2.8/37mm
zhlédnutí 32KPřed 4 lety
In this video I talk about the Mir-1 2.8/37mm that many people call a "wide angle brother" of the popular Helios. Mir-1 2.8/37mm Close Focus Modification
zhlédnutí 11KPřed 4 lety
In this video I show you how to improve the minimum focusing distance of the Mir-1. With this little modification you can bring the close focusing distance from 0.7m to about 0.35m. Lens Spanner: amzn.to/2RRlvEX
I got one in the early nineties (built in 1970) from an uncle who gave up photography to use with my Praktica camera from 1968. At the time I thought it was alright for the b&w photography I did but I also had a Pentacon 50mm/1.8 and 28mm/2.8 which seemed sharper and the in between size did not see much use. Then the camera died and the new one had different lenses. Still have the MIR-1 because of how cool it looks.
Owned this lens for years and only just did this mod. So good thank you!
Hey i know this video is a little old but i am having trouble getting the rear ring off the back. I have the screws out and it wont budge. Any ideas?
know this is an old vid. But why did they put that screw in that position? Does the rear element stick out too far now or something?
Insane! I’ve had this lens for years and never knew about this. The minimum focus always bothered me. Thanks!!
Ahhhh mine won’t unsrcrew!!! The little screws do but the larger piece is stuck.
I'm in the same boat as you. Did you get it figured out?
Thank for your demo mate, especcially was great to see how this lense work with BMPC 4k, it looks so natural and real. I have 2 Helioses and Zenithar, I love how this lenses can do a retro-style pictures and in same time it's can do a great warmth cinematic videos. I think I need to get Mir also) and BMPC 4k or 6k. I using Canon 5D Mark 2
Since when is 37mm a wide angle? As far as I know anything between 35 and 50 (or even 55) is considered a standard lens, but what do I know.
Я не могу остановиться ржать😅😅😅 ты назвал объектив Хилиос, по русски это звучит иначе👌 Гелиос 💯📸, ну а так молодец 👍 хороший обзор
The Industar 50-2 50mm f/3.5 is a coated lens. But it is only a single coating unlike today's modern multi-coated lenses. If it were uncoated the flare would be unbearable, I know because I have multiple very early Leica uncoated lenses.
Thanks for the video
Beautiful cinematography
VERY nice!!!
my dad was a camera man for some of the big 4 british tv channels in the 90s-2000s. he's got a bunch of these mir/soviet lenses, along with lots of other equipment badly stored in sheds lol. he said him and his other friends that work in the industry really liked these lenses, they were apparently great for the price! and the mir lenses haven't got any fungus growing on them somehow, while the expensive tv lenses i've found are badly covered in it lol this was a great video, thank you for the info x

hey Till are you alive?
They’ve gotten a lot more expensive in the year since this video was released.
Great video, very professionally produced. I have one of these lenses on it's way. If you want a good vintage lens for close up try an Industar 26m, add an L39to M42 ring to use on your M42 adaptor. If you haven't tried this yet you'll be blown away by the close up images. I was.
I found this information on Wikipedia. Flektogon is the type designation of a wide-angle lens series with extended cutting distance of the VEB Carl Zeiss Jena. [1] The Flektogon 1:2.8/35mm was first made in 1950 as wide-angle SLR cameras. It was built in the GDR. Carl Zeiss in West Germany also built it under the name Distagon. I hope this information is of some use to you.
Hi, great video! Did you test the lens with the BMCC 4K without the Metabones adapter? I mean, with a "simple" M42- M4/3 adapter with no glass in between.
Curious to know what's the front filter thread for adding a CPL/ND filter. Thanks in advance 🤗💐
It's 35.5 mm.
Hi there Great content🙏🏽 Do you know what is the diameter of the focusing ring I want to purchase seamless focus ring but I dont know the size
How would you compare the saturation and contrast as compared to your Lumix 12-35? I have that lens and the P4K as well, and I'm wondering if the Mir-1 is more milky in look when there are no flares.
such animating video bro!! will done! this has made me buy one!
Even after unscrewing those 2 tiny screws I have a problem with unscrewing the focusing part. I think it is because of the lens age or something else?
Great footage. I just got this lens and haven't given it a try yet, but will film a future video with it. Hard to beat that vintage feel.
Enjoy watching your video. Good
Hi..discover your nice video. Do keep the good effort. Hope to see these kind of good video again from you.
Great video!
Nice !
In Russia there is bad opinion about this lens. Cuz of it soft and flares. It interesting to see how photographers from west like mir 1 and russian are not. Funny thing
I did everything as you showed. Why is the minimal focus 120 cm on my Sony A 7? Я всё сделал как он показал. Почему на моей сони а 7 3 минимальный фокус стал 120 см?
Thanks for the information!
Zeiss flektagon rapes this lens. Just go w that
Please make more videos!
If you're using a micro 4/3 camera a much cheaper option to buying a bunch of focal reducers for vintage lens mounts, or m4/2 specifically is to get an EOS/EF to M4/3 focal reducer which can then be further adapted with rings. If you don't want to get into the mess of flange distances, suffice to say that this can adapt PK and M42 lenses without loss of infinity focus, though it might end up getting shifted back a hair. A lot of forums online will tell you to avoid adapter stacking like this, because of "racking" but trust me that's not a thing you'll run into and they're just a bunch of pissbabybitches. I've adapted m42 to penF with basically the exact same setup minus the focal reduction, and there's way more racking in that setup and no light leaks to speak of.
Thanks man :)
Why are you wearing that stupid hat? (and that awful t-shirt!).
7 aperture blades
I've just found your channel. It's amazing and has so much promise. Please keep on making videos
Is this lens radioactive? My copy seems a bit yellowish inside but I couldn’t find any information on the internet confirming the it is not radioactive.
I think the edge softness is caused by curvature of the focal field.
Very high quality content, looking forward to more of this
I've been looking for a wide angle lens to pair with the Helios, and this is perfect! I'm going to buy one.
which sony did you use for the pictures in this video? The sony A7?
Thanks, finally someone showing it work on a .64 metabones with bmpcc4k. Now i can go ahead and buy the anamorphic mod of this lens on ebay. I just bought the ronin rs2 with focus 3d and if all works out i should have lidar autofocus with this vintage lens. Btw are u german? Feel like i hear an accent... Thanks again!
I have a silver version with an m39 mount. The lens seems to wobble a bit when mounted with an m39-m42 ring and an m42 to Sony adapter. That fact seems to affect the sharpness of the photos taken relatively close up and at maximum aperture. Moreover, the lens at infinity and f9 doesn't seem to produce a sharp result at infinity. So, to me it seems that it's at its best shooting close up or mid-range keeping the wobble in mind and being careful. Under these conditions, it can take very nice images. Feedback would be appreciated, as I can't find such comments elsewhere.
Nicely done review! Informative and entertaining at the same time. I'd say however that the lens you show is a Mir-1 and not a Mir-1B (or Mir-1V in western alphabet). When it is a variation it is clearly written in the front namepiece. Anyway, the samples you show really highlight the characteristics. Love how the bokeh looks in the videos!
Love my industar, and amazing scenic shots at the start of the video, wow!
