Equestrian Q&A: Worst Fall | Reined Cowhorse
Hes beautiful 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can you tell me about flexion? When I trot in the inside circle, do I have to flex only with the inside reins or with both reins or when I trot straight, do I have to flex on both sides????
When you're actually riding your horse, you don't want too much flexion. It should only be enough to have their head slightly tipped in the direction you're going. You need to use both reins to play with it so that they flex in the direction that you want, but not too much. Your inside rein brings them into flexion, the outside rein prevents the outside shoulder from pushing too far to the outside.
Oh no youll have good luck! Dont look at it like that. I have one and hes 3 legged! Love him!❤🐱❤
haha that's great. I'm not a huge cat fan myself, but I'm glad that they keep the mice away!

Black cats aren't bad luck white ones are
No cats are bad luck
I never heard that white ones are bad luck. No white ones around here!
@@Fox_Dragons635 that's what I've always heard. I'm definitely more of a dog person.
Hi from Norway 😊
Hello!! :)
When I press the grip with my legs while reading, my waist becomes stiff and when I release the grip, my waist keeps bending What should I do???
A couple of things here. Don't grip with your legs. Your legs should be hanging long along your horse's sides - not gripping. I would also work on your core strength off the saddle to keep your waist strong and steady. Something that really helps is getting someone to lunge your horse while you ride so that you can solely focus on your seat.
@@stronginthesaddle Can you explain in simple term I am not understanding please
When I go for extended trot my whole body gets lifted up and I lose my body balance.
@@rajparmar8010 You shouldn't be gripping your horse. You need to move with them, which means that your legs need to be loose enough to be able to move, not just stay in the same spot.
@@rajparmar8010 That's a rider strength problem. You need to become stronger out of the saddle. I would recommend starting some sort of strength training program.
How do u know your horse has worms? do they show up in the manure?
Yes, that would for sure be a sign. I don't wait until my horses are showing signs that they have worms. They get dewormed twice a year as a preventative measure.
@@stronginthesaddle I live in Florida and have neighbors from Edmonton. They come down here for the winter period. How is it there in the winter? I would imagine your horses are in the barn all winter.
@@loutalksabouteverything2575 Nope. My horses are outside 24/7 365 days a year. In the winter I put blankets on them, but they're still outside. As far as riding goes, I will either ride in the snow or haul them to an indoor arena.
I like your videos. they make me feel so good. keep uploading please..
Glad to hear that!! :)
Question: why do you tuck your jeans into your boot’s?
I don't intentionally tuck them in. When I put my boots on, I'm too lazy to untuck them! Right before I get on my horse is usually when I untuck them.
@@stronginthesaddle oh ok thanks!
I am riding in a riding club. I am riding a horse by doing collection and flexion, if another rider is riding the same horse without doing collection, will the horse be able to learn from this or not?
I think every horse can benefit from this, whether they have collection or not. Young horses, who haven't learned proper collection yet, are taught this in the very beginning and it builds the foundation to then learn how to carry themselves collected.
I’m with you on waking up to alarms - my nervous is always shot! 😜 Trips are such good tools for clarifying goals.
They are! I just got back yesterday and I feel like it was so good that I got away for a bit! I felt super excited to be back home, ready to hit my goals!!!
You say it correctly I say it wrong 🤣
lol and I feel like if a person has said it the wrong way forever, it's nearly impossible to start saying it the right way!!!
Greetings fellow horse gal! This just came on my feed somehow, and I'm glad. I'm a ways south of you in the Upper Great Lakes.Life can be overwhelming at times with so much on the plate, but it all evens out after a while. This is as 'social media' as I get, so I can't imagine trying to juggle vlogs and such. Horse care alone is a hefty task! How about prioritizing without guilt and treat yourself to downsizing at least 1 task. I know when I do that it feels like a heavy weight lifted from my shoulders. 😊 The best of luck with conceiving, and amidst all of this, I'm glad you have horses. I saw a shirt that said, "Horses Keep Me Stable" Very true, eh? God bless 🐎🐎🐎
Thanks so much for the comment! That's exactly the strategy I'm taking is to start trying to take unnecessary things off my plate. I've discontinued the podcast that I was doing, which has turned out to be such a big relief.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now as a fellow Albertan. I’m much older than you, but I have had the no desire to ride phase as well (but you’ve been in this space off an on for a while it seems). For where you are at at the moment, my advice is to send him to a trainer. While you are taking care of other things in your life he will still be progressing with his training and it will be just one thing off your plate for a while. He will be that much further along when you get him back and your dreams of showing won’t be so far away! Take junior on some rides around the farm when you are missing him. It will be good for both of you and no pressure. Just a thought!!
First off, thanks for watching my videos! I appreciate the support. I have definitely thought about sending him for training. I think I'm going to get through the summer & then send him off once winter hits. At this point, I just want a horse that is finished & I don't have to think about it!!
Nice cowboy boots!! You use crew sport socks or you use socks above the ankle or you use low ankle socks or you use no show socks with cowboy boots?
Thanks :) I wear ankle socks - although I've been told that's very much a millennial trend! They have to be the right fit, otherwise they end up sliding down, which is VERY annoying.
@@stronginthesaddle You have also knee cowboy boots?
@@I.equitazione No. Just ones that come to mid-calf.
Do you guys have Ezekiel cereal in Canada? Or premier protein cereal? Soooooooo good!!
It happens , but it will get better, hang in there !
Thanks! I appreciate the support :)
The boot company was named after the famous race horse Secretariat....pronounce it as that !
I didn't know that!! Thanks for the tip :)
Newish follower here - I've been curious about Jordan Peterson's self-authoring courses, so it's very helpful to hear your perspective! I have also find myself being both a "busy procrastinator" and feeling stagnant lately! Good fortune on your new adventures!
Thanks for following along :) I definitely recommend the self-authoring program. I think it's only $14 or something like that and worth every single penny. I've only done the future authoring part (there's also past and present authoring), and it's be incredible to go through.
Your horse is looking great. I hear ya about being in a funk. My gelding is 8 years old and last year I stopped cutting with him. I took some time off and had surgery. My goal is to make my horse an all-around bridle horse.I am getting a bit frustrated as he still has cutting in his brain. He will try to cut the dog, kids, and even a duck. It makes me feel like I'm keeping him from something he really loves to do.
That's a tough one! I feel like some of these horses are bred so discipline-specific that it's really hard to take them away from it. All the best with making him an all-around horse. That's a great goal!
Definitely above pet, like a toddler. Pet doesnt work at that level of intelligence. I second what you said at 9:42, there IS something going on and there is no words so we cannot explain it.
Yep! No idea how to explain it in words, but it's there.
I have been riding over 20 years and I feel like I’m not a good rider either!! But I think the more you know the more you realize you don’t know and it skews your opinion on yourself.
I'm glad I'm not the only one!! There's soooooo much to learn about riding a horse!
I just found your channel and I love it! I just posted my first video do you have any advise??? The kitties are sooooo cute!!!!
Glad you like it :) My advice would be to stay consistent and keep at it. It's a long term investment to start making any progress on CZcams. Good luck!
I’m a new subscriber. Your life is so calming. This is what I wish for in a week, but you know what, I’m not even allowed to go to the park in Afghanistan. 🙂
Hello and thanks for subscribing!! I'm sorry to hear that you aren't allowed to do things like go to the park. I couldn't imagine what life where you live would be like.
The same thing for green and broke. I have ridden so many horses that I was told were broke and they were green at best. In my eyes if you are not neck reining you are green.
People definitely have odd definitions for what they consider "broke". I would say I have higher expectations than many people.
Is a horse ever really "finished" ?
I would say so but like I said in the video, they won't stay that way forever if you aren't continuing with consistent riding.
Love the horse-cam shots, gives a bit of perspective of the rider. I'm always a little surprised, that - like larger dogs - horses are extremely muscular, so I don't quite understand why you would like him to be even more jacked than he already is. I thought you mentioned his name was Diesel, he is a very good looking horse for sure, great aesthetic lines, despite his more stockier build. I hope you can limit the amount of hours you can sit at your desk, that stuff ain't healthy even for someone with an active life like you seem to have. Thanks for the video!
Diesel actually isn't that stocky/muscular when compared to other bloodlines within the quarter horse breed. The body types within that breed range very widely from lanky more race-type horses, to the very stocky halter horses.
There is some overlap with being a Navy Seal and riding and taking care of Horses. You meantioned teamwork, which is a great one. Another easy one is that both require quite a bit of discipline. You need to clean and maintain your weapons and gear, like how you clean and take care of your horse. Shoveling horse poop doesn't exactly sound like a fun time, but it needs to be done, just like having gruelling training schedules that are mentally tough. Also both things cut out all the bs. If you're a Seal, you have no time for niceties or pondering over decisions, you need to act and get out of your head more often than not. With horses, they really don't accept these uncertainties either, they can feel the insecurity of people that are around them and really don't want any of that. I've generally found a lot of people that ride are extremely grounded. It is not exactly the same as the professional military, as there are a lot more stressors involved with that job, including your own life and the lives of others that are on the line, but there is certainly some overlap. Thanks for posting this. I was hovering over the video progress bar to see where the navy Seal was in the video, but it turns out it was just you talking the entire video. I'll look into your channel, see if you have any great outside shots with the horses as well, as this is more like a solo podcast.
Thanks for the comment. This is a video podcast, which is why it was just me talking. But I have several other videos on the channel that are vlog-type videos (those are released every Wednesday).
Thank you for sharing your story, I remember watching it a few months ago but never commented until now. I too am struggling with fear/confidence issues around my horse because of some scary accidents and I don’t think people talk enough about this subject.
Thanks for the re-watch. I agree that confidence issues don't get talked about nearly enough in the horse community. For a very long time, I didn't say a word because I thought I was the only one who struggled with stuff like that.
I rode my horse today and there was a bit of wildfire smoke in the air. Also its been dry and dusty. After working and sorting calves i led my horse to some grass before putting him back, suddenly there was some watery white discharge present coming from the one nostril...it wasnt yellow or green..watery and white...the. I got thinking that its more than likely the smoke!!
Definitely be careful riding in the smoke. It's not worth damaging your horse's lungs just in the name of getting in a ride.
Something with a high biotin content for the feet (to be fed) x
Thanks! I'll look into that
So much variety in that list...you won't get bored for sure !
I'm hoping so! It should be a fun summer :)
What do you use on his coat?
I actually don't use anything. He's just super healthy.
Whiny Canadian of course.
Thank you and God bless!
Same to you!
My mare is 27. She was not saddled until 3. I really didn't do much with her until 5. Due to a really horrible summer last year she had to be retired. Laminitis was the cause.
That's too bad you had to retire her.
I feel that 3 year olds are still babies. 5 year olds are much better! Their soundness is very important!
Agreed!
You nailed it,
Thanks!
If you would like to come ride some cow horses, make a colab video, and try going down the fence contact me.
That's very generous of you! We could definitely consider that in the future. I'm up to my eye balls with work right now due to tax season (I'm an accountant) and don't even have time to see my horses much right now unfortunately.
this is so good!!
Thanks!
I love the junior cow horse bit also
It's a good bit. I've used mine for years!
Sometimes when life is easy as you stated it is far harder to find motivation. A little bit of hard is one of the best motivators. This is why immigrant children whose parents are lunch ladies or cleaning people, those kids wind up very highly motivated. I’m not saying your not I am sure it took hard work to get where you are but now your life is more “easy” and I think sometimes that does make it harder to motivate. So having those goals will definitely give you some more hard. Give yourself a hard goal. Maybe new something that seems impossible. Fallon Taylor talks about a lot. Pick something hard and then baby step to it.
Love this comment! You are definitely right. I need a goal to push me. I've been pondering what that will be. As an accountant, I'm in the midst of tax season, so I have until May 1st to figure out what that goal is going to be.
You must never look back with "what ifs". Today is the day
Absolutely!
We had horses growing up but I never learned to ride, the last time I was on a horse would have been on a draft horse as a kid. 2 days later it got out and got onto the highway and was hit and killed by a transport. I was never on a horse again, when I had the chance to learn to ride there was too much anxiety and I couldn't do it. in 2021 I suffered serious psychological and emotional trauma then suddenly horse became a thing and it was somethig I had to do. I started riding in March 2023 when I was 57 it's now March 2024 so I have been riding a year. Becasue of the anxiety that I was having I had to stop for 2 months in June and July but I still went to my lesson and helped out other students. Not only that but I have a problem with dizziness which doesn't help riding but I go to rehab to work on that. I was orginally looking for equine thearpy but it's now become much more. My instructor teaches Dressage, who knows maybe one day. Who can say.
Thanks so much for sharing! I'd to hear that you're trying to incorporate horses into your life as much as you can.
@@stronginthesaddleThank you, yes. I ride every week, I went riding last night. Right now we're getting lots of rain so we were ridng in the indoor arena. I ride both English and Western, right now I'm riding Western. What are your thoughts on buying used saddles?
@@ajc0372 The saddle I'm riding in right now is used and I love it. Just like when buying any saddle, new or used, you need to do your due diligence. I highly recommend putting it on your horse and riding in it before purchasing it to ensure it fits both you and your horse.
@@stronginthesaddleThanks for the advice, l want to take my time until I find the saddle that I'm happy with. Your advice helps. :)
@@ajc0372 I would also recommend trying to stay with the more well-known brands. they are a bit pricier but they will be better quality. Remember, good saddles aren't cheap and cheap saddles aren't good.
BAAAHAHAHAHAHA...!!! You feel "too old" at 32 (and teary about it too, good GREIF). You think you have missed the boat with horses at age 32?!?!?! Come back when you're in your late 60s/early 70s, hon. Your bones are still strong, you have PLENTY of time to "learn horses", fall off a time or two 'til you develop your seat. Go enjoy life!!!
Glad you found it humorous
Have a look at ridinghighministries and tell me horses dont come into a person's life at the exact right time. 😊
