When life was simple, the word family meant something, everyone is working proudly, I hate what it has become.

This is what I have to say: There is Nothing that Sails on the Ocean’s of the world that compares to the Beauty and Uniqueness of the LongBoats of the Great Lakes. Also, a little fact I learned from W. Wes Oleszewski, all water craft of any size that sails on the Great Lakes is called a Boat By Tradition, even the large Ore carriers and cargo vessels.

My Dad shared this video with me yesterday and He rode one on of the Trains when he left for Vietnam, It took him to Chicago and then on to Kansas City where he caught a plane to San Francisco. My Dad also worked in a couple of the rooms of NCR pics with some of the machines that are seen in this video. Tall Windows still there til torn down. We can’t pick him out, but one of the Men in the Triangles Football Picture was My Dad’s Grandfather, My Great Grandfather. Does anyone possibly know any information to share, We would be delighted to know.

The World War 1 and 2 photos were before my time, but I was a "baby boomer" in Akron during the late 1940s and 1950s. I do remember the Quaker Oats grain silos being converted into shops and restaurants in the 1970s. Heavens, these days we're going to have to go back to raising food much more locally again. The early computer photos were of interest, too. My Dad worked in the initial stages of computer usage and development at General Tire and Rubber in the early 1960s, and my Granddad worked in the Industrial Sales group within Goodyear for some 40+ years before he retired in 1963. ("Retired" just sounds like a word that ought to be commonplace in a town like Akron, doesn't it?) Very interesting compilation; thanks for putting this together for us former "Hilltoppers".

Born and raised there and left after highschool in 1967....It lost half of its population when the auto plants shutdown....The NCR left after a 100 years there....The only major employer there is the US Air Force Base....

My dad and I graduated from TU.

From Arizona I grew up in the 50s and 60s in Toledo. Awesome art museum.

I was born at University Hospital and grew up in University Circle.i left for college in 1972 and never lived there again. I will be going home this year for the first time since the Pandemic. My mother, father, and brother, are buried in Lakeview Cemetery.
