How to pass your med surg hesi exams in nursing school? Med Surg Monday
Hey guys! I struggled in nursing school because i did not have any resources that i found was helpful in helping me pass my Hesi exams. Finally i realized that even though you understand the material you have to practice critical thinking and applying that knowledge to questions. This helped me get a 3.9 GPA and succeed in my nursing career. As a nurse you will be face with real life questions on a daily basis and this is what helps you succeed as a nurse and in nursing school.

    Why would question one not prioritize pain ?

    • @mednursepharm
      @mednursepharm Před 2 měsíci

      Great question! Pain management is indeed critical and should be addressed promptly. However, in this scenario, obtaining a urine sample for diagnostic purposes takes precedence to ensure that the underlying cause of the pain is correctly identified and treated. If the underlying cause is not identified, pain management alone may not address potentially serious underlying conditions.

    Hyperparathyroidism would cause hypercalcemia, not hypocalcemia. Since calcium and phosphorus have an inverse relationship, phosphorus levels go down when calcium levels go up. Out of the choices given, the answer would be hypophosphatemia.

    Why would the nurse not prompt the patient to report yellowing of the skin with isoniazid? Isoniazid can damage the liver (hepatotoxic) and since TB patients are on isoniazid for >7 months, I thought a priority for teaching would be to report jaundice symptoms - not to take with food. Thank you (:

    • @mednursepharm
      @mednursepharm Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you for catching that! Yes the answer is report yellowing of the skin! Isoniazid is an antitubercular medication that can potentially cause liver toxicity as a side effect. Yellowing of the skin (jaundice) can be indicative of liver problems, so it's important for the client to report this symptom promptly to their healthcare provider. Taking the medication with meals helps to reduce gastrointestinal upset and is generally recommended. Avoiding dairy products is not necessary with isoniazid. Discontinuing the medication without consulting a healthcare provider, especially if symptoms improve, is not recommended as it could lead to treatment failure and the development of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

    for the residual feeding/continious feeding question, i believe both D and B are just as right. you need both of the equally to not start complications for enteral feedings in the patient. also, you dont explain why D is not the answer. is there a reason why?

    • @mednursepharm
      @mednursepharm Před 4 měsíci

      Yes both D AND B are are necessary to prevent complications! D prevents aspiration from occurring. So elevating the head of the bed is also correct.

    it says online that chickenpox is airbornne precautions

    • @mednursepharm
      @mednursepharm Před 4 měsíci

      Yes! Because chickenpox is primarily transmitted through respiratory droplets, airborne precautions are necessary. Nurses should wear a fit-tested N95 respirator when entering the room of a patient with chickenpox. The patient should also be placed in a negative pressure isolation room if available to prevent the spread of airborne particles to other patients and healthcare workers. Standard precautions apply as well but the answer should be airborne. Thank you for recognizing this!
