Brevity is the Death of Content
CZcamsrs have been leaving the platform in droves, flocking to create their own platforms or even try their hand at running their own businesses. I've always been interested in why big names would give up the career they've worked so hard to create and after looking into it... I think I know why.

Palworld is an open-world, multiplayer survival game with a twist: it allows players to experience a world like Pokémon with no rules, meaning players can choose whether to follow the straight and narrow path or fall into absolute depravity. But does this game even contain AI assets? Why are creators being scorned for playing, and are the main critiques of the game even valid in the first place...

    Content creators would be much better if all these platforms focused on what made them successful rather than being a one stop shop. If you are going to CZcams for short vertical content I think you are going to the wrong place. Tik Tok already existed, and before it so did Vine, they are very different beasts. Both in terms of the viewers and their mindsets, as well as the creators and their approaches. They are very different worlds in terms of content. Its the same idea as judging an FPS on the merits of a Platformer, both are still video games, but they are very different in how they play, the way you are meant to interface with them, and especially in target audience. Even if crossover still exists. Maybe I am just a boomer, but I think many of these companies need to harken back to their past. Rather than trying to be one stop shops and each creating half assed and at times horrible spaces to both create and consume content. They should focus on being the best spaces with the best tools and avenues like they did 10 years ago. In an ecosystem like this you could pick and choose as both a creator and consumer what content you wanted to interface with. If you didn't care about picture content you could just no use Instagram, if you like short form you could just use vine, if you preferred just blog posts and long form video you could use youtube and tumblr, if you liked any combination of them you could just use the ones you wanted. It made it better for viewers but also creatives since most creators probably have no interest in the massive upkeep or workload of trying to juggle all these different mediums and platforms. But than again, maybe I am just stuck in the past lol.

    This is why I’ve gravitated toward longer format and video essay content from smaller sized channels. I can feel much more intellectually engaged with the content, and better understand the topic and subjects, without feeling like I’m receiving a watered down product. I get the feeling like the larger a channel gets, the more information gets discarded, and the more detached from their viewer the creator becomes. Again, this is probably because I’m an over-explainer who loves nitty gritty details, and who gets anxious from having too much varied information thrown at me all at once.

    It seems like the only objectively good option to make a living is by selling arts/goods. Regular 9-5 day jobs are the objectively worst kind of way to make money, but content creation used to be the ultimate way to escape from it. I used to view CZcams as my escape from the “prison”. But after creating for more than 10 years now, I don’t think it will ever be a possibility anymore. Nowadays, content creation have become a rat race, just another form of 9-5, where you’re expected to speak, create, and act a certain way, otherwise you’ll be replaced. But I’d say still try to create regardless of what the algorithm says. Yes, it might take a eons to get to a position where you could pay your bills but it’s certainly much better than passively working and hoping that your meaningless office job is gonna take you anywhere. True financial freedom is impossible to achieve these days anyway unless you’re extremely lucky or talented, so might as well just try everything. I’ve seen multiple creators who quit their day jobs after creating “off meta” content for a few years and finally be able to live happily. It sucks that not everyone’s gonna make it, meaning that some of us might have to live paycheck to paycheck doing 9-5s forever, but I’d rather try. Tl;dr yes, being a content creator sucks today, but it’s still infinitely better than having a normal job. Keep on creating and quit as soon as you can.

      Normal jobs are the most dehumanizing thing ever. It's the worst kind of life a human can live. They have all the reasons to be envy. You might be working harder and doing it everyday, but if it's out of passion, you're living the best life. The only way to achieve true freedom and happiness is by being self-employed. No obligation to work in a dull office every weekday under a boss who doesn't treat you like a human being, their lives are actually sad when you think about it.

      @@IvoryShardnah, you won't be broke as long as you keep hustling. Normal jobs aren't that secure either, since you can get laid off for no reason any time. If being self-employed isn't the superior option, many wouldn't be craving to quit their jobs and start their own business. You're already more successful than of 95% of the population. No matter how little you get from freelancing, you're in a much better position that someone who gets paid 6-7 figures doing meaningless tasks for their bosses. Just remember to save and invest, that's how freelancers and self-employed people thrive.

    • @IvoryShard
      @IvoryShard Před měsícem

      @Kalitayy In my country, it's not like that. It's not like the US. Jobs have security; if you are laid off, you still get paid by the company. You have free health care and other benefits. I get none of it. People working as cashiers literally get more money per hour of work than I do (including the cost of health care, commuting, dental care, paid vacations, and so on). Yes, I make more money than they do, but I spend more money trying to survive than they do. I literally have to spend $200 per month on medicines and doctor consultations. Unless you are at the top of the food chain, freelancers don't have many advantages.

    • @Kalitayy
      @Kalitayy Před měsícem

      @@IvoryShard You underestimate how much power employers have. They will find a way to let you go without paying you. I'm fron Indonesia, and I've heard stories where bosses create these sick "challenges", where if you fail, you'd be let go without severance pay. The thing is, they were designed to be impossible to pass. When you are a full-time employee, you are less than human. You will get there someday. The thing with freelancing is that your income isn't capped. Just keep going and you will get rich beyond belief. There's a reason why self-employment is often considered the "end game". You see people quit their jobs to start their own business, but never the other way around.

    I highly doubt short form content will disappear. There is too large an audience to consume and create it for that to happen. I definitely think a resurgence of long form content is likely however. The biggest issue with short form content is that it requires active attention, so people with better stuff to do can't have it on in the background

    • @SaikoSloth
      @SaikoSloth Před měsícem

      I personally think people are also too addicted to the dopamine hit for Shorts to just disappear, but the money has to come from somewhere so I see two paths forward if they keep them. 1) Adam Mosseri (Head of Instagram) has said they expect short form to be part of their long term strategy in a recent interview, so CZcams chooses to compete. But Meta doesn't have to do payouts like CZcams so perhaps we'll see other platforms adopt a pay-to-play method (Pay for Meta premium or else you only get 5 posts/month) or flat out remove their creator incentive programs. 2) Shorts become limited to only certain creators, who have already "proven" themselves in the eyes of the algorithm as someone who can generate revenue. Either way, spells big sad for content creators. I'm interested in seeing what happens now... 👀

    • @barry5
      @barry5 Před měsícem

      @@SaikoSloth CZcams is pretty bad at making decisions, but i feel like even they wouldnt do something as stupid as either of those two options. If youtube shorts were "pay to play" that would basically just kill the format. Why make shorts if you can only get access to a literal fraction of the youtube audience at no real benefit? If people want to do members exclusive content, thats already a thing on youtube, and you... actually get a cut of the membership price from that. Shorts only being limited to creators that have "proven" themselves in the eyes of the algorithm also... doesnt make much sense? Shorts is an entirely different format from longer form content, so creators that are good at long-form content arent automatically going to be making good shorts. Some formats just dont work as shorts. Theres plenty of successful youtubers out there that _only_ get views on their shorts and have that be their main source of income while their "long-form" videos basically get no views. It also doesnt make much sense because the problem with shorts isnt that the creators arent "marketable" enough, its an inherent flaw of the medium: its just harder to put ads on. because of the way shorts are set up, its incredibly easy to just swipe away the moment an ad plays, and people are going to have less tolerance for video ads, because nine times out of ten theyll be longer than the video youre trying to watch. Theres not really a fix for this, the only options they really have is to either remove shorts or have them stay as-is and deal with whatever impact that has on the platform. The only thing i could see them doing is to just stop paying creators for shorts, but its debatable whether the backlash from that would be worth it.

    This is a very interesting topic you brought up, and its a really well edited video. I think the most difficult thing about being a content creator is having to adapt to everchanging landscape of CZcams and other social media platforms. its just that aspect of if you're not willing to adapt you're just gonna be left behind. Though to be honest, I like to think there is a certain charm to being different amongst the shocking face thumbnails, doomposting titles, and reaction based content. Its that genuineness that really shines through, and Its something Ai can't replicate either. It may or may not get views, but there will always be a place for them. Long form content in my opinion just bridges the gap of relating to the viewer more than just short form content, but at the cost of time which most people would rather watch shorts for. I'd rather do something for fun than sacrifice my own happiness for money. However If I can earn money and have fun at the same time. Everyone would choose that 10/10 times. It can be tough for a content creator especially nowadays. Again, this is a really good engaging video

    • @Kalitayy
      @Kalitayy Před měsícem

      I agree, despite its difficulties and struggles, being a content creator is probably the most humanizing job. If you create anything at all, there will always be people who appreciate them. You can also feel free to take some breaks and your audience will respect that. And in return, we become more encouraged to create more content for them. People are tired of the overstimulating, overly edited type of content and are looking for old school type of videos these days, like Minecraft Let’s Plays have become a quite trending format, I’ve seen people getting 100k+ views posting a let’s play video. Unlike regular jobs where you’re expected to keep working on something you don’t care about and one small mistake might cause you to lose your entire livelihood, being a content creator is the only place where your creativity and passion have value.
