Absolute legend at Bristol City, I used to live round the corner at bedminster down. A number of city players lived in that area in club houses. Got to know Chuck Drury well, absolutely lovely man. I remember the Oldham game as a ten year old.

I'll say this what Calzaghe fans don't understand when people say the results would've been different he fought Roy in 98 or so. Roy is considered one of the most gifted boxers of all time. Joe was still a great fighter in his own right. Beating the likes of Kessler and Lacy were top notch wins.

Madd respect to Both, for the fight itself, a total mismatch. Going the distance with a champion is not a badge of honor if you’re getting beat the whole fight. Arguably the fight should’ve been stopped a few times (for his health.)

Don’t know why i got this after 6 years pop up 😁but oh the irony of the title. Redknapps reign as it transpired destroyed our club financially for years in just one summer of crazy spending after this interview . Even admitting he signed the wrong player on big wages ( Ndoye). A blagger at the end of his career who destroyed clubs but at least his dog Rover retired happy and wealthy with its foreign bank account. ( how the hell did he get away with that !)

Jeff lacy played just as big a part in that fight as Joe. Any other fighter would have quit on there stool or been knocked out cold. That was Joe at his best. I believe he would of beat anyone in the world that night. But we’ll done to lacy. A real warrior

Joe would have beaten everyone put in front of him . Hopkins ran, Jones maybe but had another agenda (going to Heavyweight), Toney didnt have the work rate even in his prime. The Yanks always say "Joe never came to America until the end of his career" True, But who was there to fight other than the 3 runners i mentioned? Floyd never dared to travel, neither di Ward. Even Ali, he traveled to places that he had overwhelming support, But when he went to countries he couldnt control support , he arguably lost (without cheating)

Never expected to see that ! But isn’t it lovely how two men who had such a battle, meet up and talk it through ten years later, showing a real respect and friendship. Top respect to Lacy and Calzaghe is just a Demi god, best British boxer to date❤

The thing is - Lacy, after all, 10 years later has gone 'up' in status and regard because of that fight. NOBODY can ever dare say there was any quit in Lacy. Nobody could dare question 'heart' and everyone remembers Lacy would not give up, would not stop. It was nearly superhuman freakish that Calzaghe was 12 rounds of relentless attacks and energy but Lacy also went up for matching it to the end.
