"A Love Supreme" - Joe Lovano and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra
I’d like to share some rare concert footage of an original orchestration of John Coltrane’s masterpiece “A Love Supreme” written for me by Jim McNeely for the Frankfurt Jazz Orchestra, in commemoration of its 50th year celebration in 2014. This performance is of a concert with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra recorded live at The Bop Stop there in my hometown in 2019. I’m very proud of my collaboration with Jim McNeely and my relationship with the CJO. Enjoy the music and hope you feel the spiritual outpouring of this great ensemble. This offering is in Celebration of the life and music of John Coltrane on this 54th anniversary of his untimely passing on July 17, 1967.

Amazing!
Love you Joe in a Trio setting !!!!
I'm proud to b a supporter and former board member and president of the formidable Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, a hidden gem in the jazz world. Thanks to the great Joe Lovano for bringing this home to Cleveland!
Man, that mic's comin through so good and it's even windy outside. I want one!
This is the sound I aspire to, never mind the overrated Brecker sound. Lovano's sound is cleaner, less harsh, more full-bodied, fatter and pastier,.......like buttah.
This is not a soprano sax ! Rather a straight alto !
i know people hate talking about MPCs, but what did you play here?
Amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing this incredible performance.
Hello Joe Lovano - I used to listen to you in NYC all the time, I always found you deeply intriguing and musically unique. Your playing here is a joy, I've got a Selmer Super Tenor #15,915 silver plate all original you must try if you're in Houston Texas at any point!
I enjoy Joe's unique voice here, it's a fusion of old and new, a 30s Beuscher with a contemporary neck and mouthpiece, it's vibrant and projecting with an interesting tone, Joe can blow up a storm, even on somebodies lawn.
OH! Is the famous Tangalanga on drums!? Very cool guys!!
thank you for your continued dedication.
what an execution!!!
Much love!🎯❤🙏🙌
So loose...beautiful souls! Joe, do you find inspiration in trying new setups and horns etc.. Or do you like to settle into one for awhile? I'm Tom Prasek from Cleveland)
Beautiful souls! I bet that pine tree behind you guys was lovin it!!
dig
Yeah cats! Is it a tenor mouthpiece?
Park Lovano!
C melody! wow
Is this tenor an early Buescher with a hammered copper KB sax neck? It sounds compact and lively with some edge, quite beautiful, and unique. It looks like a metal Francois Louis mouthpiece, in sliver or bronze? I guess this is why Mr Lovano experiments with equipment, because he finds new things. His setup with the silver balanced action tenor and wooden FL mouthpiece sounds crazy good though, the man has some cool horns.
Joe! Love the sound! (from down under, Sydney Australia)
Great Drumming !
that's the way !! three great musicians holding up the flag, thank you Joe Lovano.
absolutely beautiful
Hey Joe! You sound wonderful as ever. I miss you madly. Love to Judi.
Just great, thank you !
C-Melody Conn Straight Neck. Master Joe sounds like an angel. And the rhythm. Saluti!
꾸안꾸
It's awesome to see you here! Man, I've always wanted a gong of my own. Anyway, looking forward to more!
Great music! He is playing a C melody saxophone, not usual
I knew it sounded a bit different! Mainly range obviously
He’s known for playing a c melody once in a while. I love mine which is an 1918 I had restored.
Awesome, Joe et. al. !!!
Love love love
Yeah Joe-on Peter Jessen´s G Soprano! Great playing John and Lamy!
..ehi Joe, you changed your mouthpiece here!!.. great thing to do sometime.. love and respect!!
Hi Joe- I see you have the Francoise Louis solid silver mouthpiece. When you did gig with the Danish Radio Big Band years ago, you had the soprano mouthpiece. Is this piece from that time? And what opening etc. Best Vibes, Bob R. in Copenhagen.
Hey Bob, thanks for reaching out. That's a new Francois Louis silver mouthpiece - he made it for me a couple years ago (12 star or so).
@@joelovano Ok , I was unaware he was still doing those. Sound beautiful as always Joe. Hope to see you over here soon.
Yeah!
I like the "new" sound your getting on the metal Berg and 10M body. Wondering what the neck is?
Hey Doug, nice to hear from you. Happy New Everything 2021 my man. That's a Francois Louis silver mouthpiece he made for me two years ago (12 star or so). A Selmer “Super” tenor #16,870, like the one Al & Zoot played, with a new hand pounded copper neck made by Kim Bock (KB Redwood necks). Thanks for tuning in!
@@joelovano Oh Man!!! I was completely mistaken! Thanks for letting me know. I am playing a Kim Boch myself. Love this combination your playing on this video. You sound great, as usual! I played Zoot's Super once. Love those Super's. Happy New Year and wishing you a prosperous and healthy 2021.
Hello, John. I am a great admirer of yours from yours, from Belgium (I saw you at the Jazz Middelheim festival in Antwerp recently: two really memorable sets!). You play so many different tenors. I Iike it. 😊
Beautiful !
Cool yea ♥ Greetings from Tbilisi. Georgia.. Hey lemy, we met in new -york airport.. it was great time.
happy b'day dear Joe!
All the best to you Mr. Lovano. Thank you for the fresh sounds!! Happy new year!
