I don't get this scene
She longs to be free yet when someone tries to kiss her she move her hand??
Do you know what the king is? That prick doesn't even care about children, lol
Actresses and actors were on a different LEVEL back then. So many could sing, dance and act. Amazingly talented people. One of my favorite scenes in a movie, period. ❤
My autistic brain gets such a good scratch from the clicking and grinding sounds 😂 I watch this a few times a day.
Wow Sally & Dick you both acting as Toys in the Film Chitty chitty bang bang was Amazing Sally was awesome as a doll on a music box it didn't look easy for her to do I cherish this film & other films to the reunion for the film was amazing I'd like to know how they made chitty fly and be a boat to the child catcher definitely scared me to, i felt for Jeremy & jemima when they were caught in his cage.
Good effects for a movie of that time.
I had this movie on vhs as a kid and watched it constantly, but I adored this scene specifically and would rewind it over and over again. Her movements always fascinated me, and I thought her singing was so pretty. And then the layered vocals. Just *chefs kiss* I kinda wish there was a version of the song without him getting interrupted
The cute Japanese girl that dances like a robot is all over the internet. I'm like why is she so familiar? This is why.
She can’t be all over the internet bc idk what you’re talking about
Am i the only one that feels a really sinister and uneasy tone under the music box melody?
Why did he do a double take in the mirror?
The last bit, when he goes to kiss her hand, she pulls away, but then smiles at him, had me blubbering fifty years ago. It still does. Brilliant staging, singing, acting, counterpoint of the songs was and remains a brilliant, clever moment.
This scares me more than any horror film
What's wrong with you mate?
I'm too high for this
My favorite sequence
0:34 I HAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLS!
Today's garbage they keep churning out will never equal classics like this!
Spot on.
How Dick Van Dyke must have a good Guardian Angel to hold him up.
Mom was taping this off TV, I was sitting on the edge of the couch and said "This is great!" A much better film than Mary Poppins.
What a wonderful scene, loved it in 1968 and still love it today !
Heard of chitty chitty bang bang but never seen it. Accidentally turned it on and it was right before this performance and how spell binding the performance was! Her voice, her acting, the song! This is what movie magic should be! *chef kiss
This was one of my comfort movies as a young kid. This and the Wizard of Oz were two of my favorites . I was always so mesmerized with this scene in particular of the movie. Something about Sally Ann Howes & Duck Van Dyke’s performances just really caught my attention as a kid. To find out later that this scene was shot in one take made this scene even more terrific. My grandparents were to ones who really catapulted my love of this film and the Wizard of Oz. I wish I could go back to those simpler times. Watching both of the movies bring a part of that back.
Every child should watch this film at least once, until the end of time. This scene in particular is simply beautiful
The fact that she apparently did this in one take?! ICONIC
This is my favorite part of the movie. Her part has me in a chokehold!!! Absolutely ❤❤❤
I watched this film over 100 times as a kid but as an adult i get an entirely new appreciation for it. This scene is amazing, no idea how they pulled it off
I first saw this as a kid over 50 years ago and I fell in love with it and with Truly Scrumptious and this wonderful scene was one that stuck in my head. I have seen it many times over the years and it always touches me. RIP the wonderful Sally-Anne Howes a true English rose.
This part is amazing she didn't even make a mistake it was perfect moves that's so nuts how she could keep her eyes open that long without blinking wonderful part she was great
As a child, I thought she was a real life Barbie doll. As an adult, I still think so. Absolutely breathtaking beauty and talent.
I always found the bit where Caractacus looks in the mirror at himself a bit odd because it’s almost like he can’t believe that’s him dressed up and he’s wondering is it really him and he’s never seemed himself look like that before or it’s like a moment with him thinking I wonder what I’m doing or he can’t believe he’s all dressed up and he’s unsure kind of but then again I’m guessing it could be him in awe of Truly and how beautiful she is.
If that is Sally Anne Howe singing, her voice is so beautiful! When I was a kid, hearing this song every time this was on tv (1x per yr, pre cable tv) was imperative!
ha ha he hit his head
Rip Sally ; North London Gal...you will be missed...
On TOP of all that; they are singing TWO SONGS IN ONE...can you EVEN THINK ABOUT IT...LET ALONE DO???...Brilliant...they did the same thing in SWING TIME
this is next level
first try, btw
Watching this for the first time, I thought she was probably a dancer whose singing voice was dubbed. She was actually a singer who managed to learn this choreography perfectly.
it was her first try, btw
Here after the cosplayer on TikTok to compare 😮
this movie creeped me out as a child and still kind of does. The actors did great kind of like willy wonka; killing kids, chitty chitty bang bang; rescuing kids who were tortured.
The film does have a kind of strange classic Willy Wonka feel to it with a kind of magic creepiness to it with dick van dyke dressed as a jack in the box type of clown I think too and with the toymaker’s store I think that too with the jacks in the boxes it has a kind of creepy/strange feeling to it.
you know she did this in one shot???? ( apparently)
My man Dick Van Dyke tap-dancing in CLOGS without breaking his ankle is proof of his talent as a natural performer
Anyone else seee the hidden meaning behind Truly's song? She sings of how she longs to be free from her rich lifestyle and having her life planned. Its actually really beautiful when u think about it. Also classic moment when DVD goes to kiss her hand and Sally's just like 'nope!"
The queen of pop n lockin'? She actually did the moves 😮
love this. makes me think when i was young

The smile that Truly gives Potts when she pulls her hand away slightly at the end always makes me grin.
This movie premiered when I was 5 and I thought it was the best movie of my childhood. Sally Ann Howes took the part after Julie Andrews turned it down. I am so happy both of them did. I like them both but nobody is as Truly Scrumptious as Sally Ann. Perfection. This movie had everything. A great car. Dick Van Dyke. Lionel Jeffries, who is absolutely hilarious and Goldfinger. The scenery and sets are magical. And there's not a bad song in the entire show. James Bond for children. I still watch it on Pluto 55 years later whenever I see it on. Me old bamboo, me old bamboo...
Just iconic. To imagine the “truly scrumptious” number at the beginning be utilized at the end like this to harmonize in this masterpiece
Hi❤
Benny Hill played the toy maker. This is an utterly brilliant scene.
