A video channel about building hot rods, rat rods, street rods, custom cars and motorcycles using basic hand tools and common sense. Small block fords, chrysler big blocks, early chrysler hemis and supercharges are featured in most builds. There is a lot of information on fabrication of custom parts, restoration tips and tricks, and building a car that is rewarding and fun to do. I use a lathe and milling machine to build some parts, and there is a machining section with some interesting parts and creations.
1929 Chrysler Coil spring replacement redneck engineering
The front end was just too low, drug on every speed bump. I found a set of stock v8 springs which were about 2 inches taller than the cut ones that were in it. It took some doing, and in the end I made a redneck spring compressor to get the bigger springs in. It was a job, but now the ride height is good, and oil pan does not hit things.

1929 Chrysler aIr bags, new Torqueflite and bonus BURNOUT
zhlédnutí 94Před dnem
I removed the coilover shocks in the back, and replaced them with airbags and regular shocks. Worked pretty good, and ride is better. Meanwhile I found a good low mileage 727, for a decent price, so I replaced the flywheel, torque converter, and transmission with 40k miles. I get it all installed in a couple of days. Then today, I tested it all, and the true test....BURNOUT. Worked great, shift...

1929 Chrysler Shifter change, Airbags, 727 tweaks and License plates
zhlédnutí 73Před 21 dnem
I changed the Winters Sidewinder for an easier Hurst shifter, and had to make new brackets to mount it all. I came up with a solution to keep part of my coilover setup in the rear, pulled the valve body to increase line pressure, and my License plates came in the mail. All legal now!

Got the chrysler running and driving well, and this is the madien voyage, the Roseburg Vetrans Hospital June car show. Good turnout, met a lot of nice people, and saw some very interesting cars. If you like classic, you gotta watch this!
Curiosity Unleashed: 1937 Dodge Rat Rod & 1929 Chrysler Journey

Now the chrysler is in inspection limbo, but running and driving, I need to move on to the 37 Dodge Brothers truck, finish up the final details, paint it and get it sold while all the car shows are going on. The chrysler needs to be inspected by state police, then I can go back to DMV and get a number assigned. Some video here of both cars togather, and a POV video of driving the 29 chrysler.
1929 Chrysler tweaks and first long test drive
zhlédnutí 623Před měsícem
About ready to get plates, went to DMV and they told me I had to bring the car to them to get it inspected, so I need to get it drivable. I did some more work on the car, finished up the shifter tunnel, painted the dirivers seat, and mounted it. A couple of days buttoning up the wiring under the dash, and hooking up all the lights finished that part. I started driving it around locally, and wor...

I parked this about a year ago to do the 29 chrysler. Now it is running and driving, it is time to dig out the dodge, finish a few details and get it sold. I put a battery in it, some gas, and after a little cranking, it fires right up. Some tweaks, and it will be good to go.

I get everything mostly bolted up, and drive the car out of the shop for the first time in a year. Some problems I thought I had turned out to be just out of gas. Fresh fuel, a couple of tweaks, and I test the car in the driveway, and do the first burnout. You dont want to miss this.

What happened when you drove it on the street??
It ran fine, trans shifted good, and all is well. I did some more tweaking, replaced the front coils, in the next video. Next I will show some of the tweaks to get it shifting at higher rpm and some freeway and kickdown testing.
Hi Tom! 🙂Good work! Airbags interesting idea!
Glad you like it!
My great grandpa used this for lord knows what but I recently inherited it after sitting in my moms shed for the past decade. Hopin to put her to some good use pretty soon here
That's so cool that you inherited something with such history!
@@1otviii it fits my taste perfectly I got a thing for 50s/60s craftsman! I also inherited his 40s or 50s craftsman table saw. But I bought an old king seeley drill press a couple years back and have a 70s all chrome craftsman circular saw, plus a load of old sockets and ratchets that I'm trying to grow to a couple full sets. Nothin better than old craftsman in my eyes except the few snap ons I got!
😊😊😊good
I've been lovingly reworking and detailing a blown up '65 olds 425 that came with a trashed convertible that I'm doing a whole lot of necromancy(techromancy?) to, and yes, I am using jbweld to fix the pitting in a couple cylinders, from sitting out in the rain, and some gnarly scoring from the piston that went cablooey. So far it looks really good, and if it fails - what, I have to rebuild a motor I now know VERY intimately? At worst get a 455 and swap everything over? I don't care, I don't pay other people to solve my problems. I'll be damned if I use a shop other than very specific things I cannot feasibly get the equipment for - but even then I'd rather build some janky rig than pay another dude. Yeah, I know, I'm probably an idiot.
I am pretty sure the jb weld will work, at least for a while. Thanks for the comment.
Can you help me with my 1985 FXST?
Probably. What do you need
Hi Tom! Yeah, astaning looks truck!😮❤😊
thanks misha. moving along
awesome truck, great job
Parked out on the street now with a for sale sign. Thanks for the compliment.
awesome car, you did a great job
Thank you 🤗
All went well, and have plates now.❤
thanks for the post - I'm curious if it cleared the exhaust or were there other tweaks needed? thanks
it cleared the exhaust fine. I zip tied the cable a bit so it did not hit anything.
@@1otviii Thanks
Hi, Tom! 😀 Looks like the Chrysler is ready! Great work! Very well done! Looks awesome! Congratulations!🤝
Thanks 👍 runs good. More to do, but rest is easy.
Have you ever powered any old cars or trucks with the dodge slant six engine?
I did have a valiant with the 6. Ran ok, but I sold it.
How hard was it to install it and installing keyway?
not hard. just be sure there are no metal burrs on anything.
Cool
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Hi, Tom!😊 Very good skills!
Hey, thanks!
Hi! Good smoke, good work!😊
Runs good now. It is street legal, so can do a real burnout.
I love these things! They can’t weigh much so even a mild SBC has to be fun. Some things on these old vehicles should be left on them, like the original ignition switch. I’m glad you kept that. Sometimes simplicity is best.
Couldn't agree more!
awesome car, that is one sweet ride
Thanks a lot. Running and driving, now I am working on sealing up the interior now, and moving on to carpet.
Smokey burnouts! Pretty cool looking car!
Heh, yeah. Going to change the fluid now, and make sure it is all good, and do some good ones. Thanks for the comment.
what pipes are on there it sounds awesome as AWESOME sound...
I forget. I think this was just stock pipes.
Still lots of work to do on interior, but hard part is over
Umm. The top of my transmission is not quite that accessible.
yeah, I understand. Have to do a little crawling then.
Wow, not a rusty pile of junk any more! When you go to make your door cards use a plastic sheet to make your templates from the actual door. Then you can use the plastic on the inside of the door card afterwards.
Yeah, I have the skins done, now I have to figure out a way to cover them.
@@1otviii Cover the panel with 1/4" closed cell foam (scuff/cement the foam). Spray a thin layer of cement over the foam and the fabric and let it dry for like 10 minutes. Then place the material 'gently- over the foam and lift it without bonding to get it to where it needs to be. When it is right get it to hold fast by pressing from the center outwards. If you cut decorative grooves into your foam with an xactco knife then don't work from the center out, work from the top or bottom to the opposite edge so the material will drape into the grooves without stretching. Best of luck.
Thanks. I will do that
Nice Job !! Car came out great ! 👍
Thanks 👍 was a lot of work. I will post a longer video in couple of days
Is the rattle from the right side of the motor just the design of the motor. Its only got 15,000 on it so I am guessing it is.
Yeah just the way it is
@#$%^&!!!! Why, after spending ALL THAT TIME on the body and paint, WHY a cheap low life Chevy Engine!??! Couldn't you spend a few dollars more for a CHRYSLER engine? Put this fool in the Pillory!
Hi, Tom! ) Nice colors and very good job on painting!
Many thanks!
I agree you should I use 10 to 15 lb is all not 975
Yeah, make sure it does not leak.
Should only need 10ftlbs on a valve cover bro
lol. Yeah, just struck me as funny
Doesn't look like a car, looks like a HOT ROD!
LOL. Yeah, it does look more rod than transport. With the low stance and the loud motor it will get plenty of attention.
this guy dont have a clue what he is doing. bet he talks a good game
Thanks for the compliment. I thought for sure I was building a horse barn....
aaaawwwwwww boooooo. couldnt pound out the metal on that fender? aaaawwwww poor car. backyard bondo butchered. how sad. horrible paint. another guy who should not do vids. should not give advice. aaaaaawwwwww
I like it!
thanks a lot. starting to come back together.
You've achieved a deep gloss, that should turn some heads. The yard looks fantastic as well!
Thanks a lot for the compliments. It took a lot of work on both to get them on the home stretch.
Old Chrysler’s of that vintage are hard to find aren’t they especially those coupes?
Nearly impossible. I found one about 15 years ago, and this one. Thats all I have really seen, other than in some high dollar car show, and only a couple of them.
@@1otviii maybe hang on to that one if you can.
@@Hotrodford yeah. Don't plan on getting rid of it.
Looks great. Patriotic colors. Be ready just in time for Independence Day parade!
Yeah, the colors worked out pretty well. Looking forward to some car show or parade.
Hours of block sanding really paid off, it will look good out in the sun. Slap some door cards in it and hit the town!
Thanks. I am color sanding it again to put the final coat of clear on it. The test went super well, and the clear is hard as a rock, and super glossy. Now to finish it and start re assembly.
@@1otviii Ordering some new skins and hog rings for the seats?
@@justinpakarno4346 can't find any kits. I will try dye first
Are you going to buff and polish the paint with a polisher and wheel?
Yeah eventually, after the car is all together. Main thing is to keep it flat, then put plenty of clear on so it can be buffed.
Looking good! It’s gonna be a nice ride with plenty of power too. Should be a chick magnet.
Thanks. Nice to have the end in sight.
Beautiful work!😮😊
Thanks misha. I got the red coat on yesterday, video will be uploaded today. Next, clear it all and will look like a diamond.
Love the way they ran the speed sensor harness thru a hole without a grommet. Mine shorted out and burned up both the sensor and display.
Yeah,, they did not do a good job on design.
Better than my 64 f100, it’s held together with self tappers and tacks
Heh. Was a lot of cut and patch on that mustang. Unfortunately, the whole thing perished in a shop fire.
And 8 years later.....this video DID help me out. Thanks! Glad I found it.
Glad it helped!
Love the car! We'll be watching! Subscribed!
Thanks. Been a year of hard work. Paint going on now, then reassemble and drive. Appreciate the sub and comment.
Nice job…and it’s not your average ford either. 👍
Thanks. Yep not a ford, much bigger
awesome job awesome car
Thanks. The paint is really bringing all together.
Sure has come a long way !
Yeah. 200 videos. Big difference
By looking at the secondary gearbox cover, this is a 1985 model.
could be, just going by the frame
Hi Tom! :) Looks like current project going to be beautiful!? :)
Yes. paint will be like a mirror, look like new car. Colors are great, will be a beauty. :)
