    At first, I thought, "WTF?", then as I looked into it, Kickstarter has 5 big rules you can't break, and offering equity is one of them. I know I saw one of the creators videos where the founder mentioned something about how they would have special cards or something that would give the owner of the card rights over a card (something like that). My memory may be bad, but I thought I remembered him saying something like "What if you could own part of Pikachu?" However, I couldn't find on the Kickstarter where it mentioned anything about what the Proof Redemption was. Having heard that the first time, and knowing they used AI art, I could see that could cause some big problems. It makes sense though about the equity. Kickstarter isn't licensed to sell shares in companies, they're not Robinhood! I guess somebody at KS found out what that was after the campaign launched. Maybe they saw something in the comments. Seeing his comment explain what the Character proofs are, in a comment and not in the campaign is strange. I don't know how KS runs things, but they may do some kind of deep dive review after they believe the campaign will fund. I mean, why even bother spending hours reviewing something if it isn't even going to fund? Lol, and where is his angry mob coming at him with pitchforks to demand he print cards into oblivion? Is there a Reddit I am missing out on? Some of his points sound like he doesn't understand the Kickstarter rules. They aren't coming after him because of AI, they are kicking the project because in a way they see the project as offering equity. He talks about some other projects, but maybe those were done before new rules came in to being. Anyways, they can always move the campaign to GameFound or Indiegogo. I heard Indiegogo offers some great after campaign fulfillment help that KS doesn't. Wish them the best, but this may have been their own fault. I guess it is best to contact KS before you launch something new to make sure you have everything squared away. I don't believe any amount of protest will get KS to change their rules.

    • @BrooksBoyd426
      @BrooksBoyd426 Před 2 měsíci

      The "What if you could own part of Pikachu?" quote is in one of their CZcams channel videos on their ethos/methodology. The "Proof Redemption" cards don't offer equity (shares/ownership in the company that's making the product), but rather give commercial rights to a character. It makes sense that Kickstarter would not want a company to raise a million dollars on their platform and then have some of the backers get a fraction of those funds. What Wonders of the First is doing isn't that; the Kickstarter funds would go to the company, an none of those funds would go to users who find Proof Redemption cards. If you gain the commercial rights to a character, then it's up to you to market that character and any other commercial ventures you make with that character. Wonders of the First continuing to have that character in their game would result in some additional marketing for your character, but I don't see how that could equate to "equity"?

    • @geekworthy7938
      @geekworthy7938 Před 2 měsíci

      @BrooksBoyd426 Doesn't matter if you or do, Kickstarter did. Also, if you look into the history of this game, it was an NFT game making all sorts of promises. If you leave the door open to trouble, guess who shows up! Anyway, putting everything else aside, the founder of the game is acting very childish in saying that he won't just end the campaign, wanting Kickstarter to shut it down so that he can wear some badge of courage. That's ridiculous. It just goes to further prove that the focus of this campaign isn't players having fun, it's for his pride and wealth. He can have it, but not from me.

    • @BrooksBoyd426
      @BrooksBoyd426 Před 2 měsíci

      @@geekworthy7938 Is "making all sorts of promises" a crime, or against Kickstarter's terms? Kickstarter can do what they wish with their platform, but they do need to follow their own terms of service. In the most recent shared communication from Kickstarter they changed their wording from not allowing "equity" in rewards to not allowing "financial vehicles" in rewards. Even with that wording change, what was being offered wasn't money/cash, nor a promise of future money/cash. What was offered was permissions (intellectual property rights) with no further promise that they'd receive any financial benefit from it, so I don't think that adheres to Kickstarter's complaint. It's not up to my evaluation on whether "IP rights" is "a financial vehicle", but I do believe we should call a spade a spade accurately, and not make over-generalized claims just because something uses the label "NFT".

    Kickstarter is a joke, they received all of this info BEFORE the start of the KS and APPROVED the project. They are wrongfully claiming the NFT provides equity to backers which is utter bullshit and false. There is no equity it provides the ability to use commercial rights of the character you hold. You need to build your own product and your own business around the IP. This is an attack from some group in the CCG space who are afraid of AI and afraid of the success wonders had to start. 🤷‍♂️ This is a bad look for Kickstarter.

      I've heard a lot of confusion about the NFT part, I even was confused about it as well at first. I share in your fear about the no reprints. If you haven't seen my other videos, I am primarily a Flesh and Blood player and reprints have helped a lot in that game from stopping staples from being astronomical. I am hoping to get an interview to ask more questions about this kind of stuff and if so I will be posting that asap. Maybe the stance on no reprints is a specific card and art combo. As in maybe alternate arts for the same card are not off the table for reprints?

  • @geekworthy7938
    @geekworthy7938 Před 2 měsíci

    You talk about their passion for the project, in what aspect? I just see a huge focus on card scarcity and FOMO, nothing else. Where is the theme? This is just AI art, where is the work on the art? Where is the work on the lore? Where is the focus on the player? The community? Someone please spell out for me where the focus was on more than TRYING to drive card prices up (which I can only see tanking)! I'd be really be interested to hear what people like about the game (aside from the obvious card scarcity conundrum). I do not see this as making players happy when there is poor art direction (nice AI pictures, but no cohesion or any obvious art skill applied to it's creation, definitely no theme), no story to draw you in (sure they could have AI spit out one tomorrow that connects frog people, cat people, mermaids, cowboys, demigods, pirates and so on...), the price is exorbitant, and so on. I've seen a few CZcams videos of guys on their own making a CCG in a weekend with AI art, this is what this feels like without any other really great talking points. I'm glad they made it to a million dollars too, just feel like I'm really missing out on something here. I'd greatly appreciate if people could share why they are investing this game, because I just don't see what will make players happy, thanks!

    • @Kiatrox
      @Kiatrox Před 2 měsíci

      I want to start out saying I am not trying to convince ANYONE of buying into it. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the project and hear other peoples'. The passion I am talking about is from the creators themselves in speaking about something you can tell they are really proud of. The work on the art is from the initial base image that is fed to the AI as well as the redesigning of the output either to the final product or to feed back into the system. As far as the theme, I think each of the factions have their own theme to them and the overarching theme being fairly lovecraftian (at least that is the theme I see, feel free to disagree and share your thoughts) I have asked about the lore and am told it is written and will be revealed soon, so I am hoping that that ends up being a strong point. Price is something I have a concern with as well, when comparing it to other card games on the market the price is much higher. They have said this is because of a large jump in quality that their product has and have given specifics to what that entails, but obviously that will only be see once the cards are in consumer's hands. My opinion is that it is a cross between Baseball card collectability and tabletop gaming playing. I think the game will only succeed if people actually think the game is fun, I personally am a player of games first and foremost and if I do not end up enjoying the final product of something I will not support it.

    • @geekworthy7938

      @Kiatrox I'm telling you, they may have photoshopped a finger here and there, but 99% of those pictures are produced by AI. Artists use composition, lighting, and even tell a story in creating their work. No specific cross-referencing in any of the pictures, simply front-facing picture or mugshots as many AI pictures produce from amateur AI generation. Looks nice, but no "passion" in the development there. They say they have passion for their project, but the only fully developed passion I see in their project is card scarcity, FOMO! Aside from the art, we don't see any lore, but they have been plugging this game for more than a year on Twitter and launched without it? I'm sure that they want and are excited to see their CCG do well, but they really didn't bring anything truly to the table when they launched their product. So far, I'm only seeing people buy for the investor hype. Stone cold 1 of 1s! Get yours before they are GONE! (excited?) The card game may be fun, but I haven't really heard people explain exactly why so far. Haven't seen 1 expert play review yet, which is quite concerning. Thanks, I do appreciate your input! Your opinion as a CCG enthusiast is valued. Chalking one more up for FOMO.

      @@Kiatrox Not prepared to play test myself, but I did watch a couple of games. I won't say it is awful, but there are some issues I have with it. If you want a game that goes back and forth with no real apparent person in the lead, then this could be fun because you are playing for an exact number of rounds. You never really have a huge high and you never really feel like you are being threatened. You can just throw down a card next round and slide a stone your way, then your opponent does the same, then you rinse and repeat, and it just kinda ping pongs back and forth. I don't see things like lots of cards leaving the field. I feel the stones and combat rules are dragging down the game. There just seems to be one main strategy of outnumbering your opponent in one lane to get a stone and then your opponent does the same. Of course, in the little battle for the stone, none of the creatures die or are removed from the game. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of laying traps, building a force to push through, playing cards with synergy, switching out fighters, or anything else that gives you choices in how this is going to play out. So, this game is a far more comparable to something like Pokémon that it would be to Magic. Once you know how to play the game, you will just be highly focused on how to achieve the one goal in the one way with the best of what cards you have without much difference from game to game. I know the creators can take steps to create more cards that could drive play in a different way, and this is really my main concern. When someone asks others to back a project, then other people want to know all about the project. We just know very little. We know there is good looking AI art, but there isn't really a connective theme there that we have been shown. It feels like the person doing the art knew only how to prompt up some good images...of everything, and then slapped it into the game. I really don't see much more. We are told there is supposed to be lore, but the funding has already begun and where is it? Having a new good story or using an existing IP, like Star Wars which we are all familiar with, helps to draw us into that game and value it. I don't see it on Kickstarter. I don't see it on their website. They have sloths in this game. What is the sloth fighting for? They have one little laughable graph on their website to prove they did exhaustive research. They found that over 70% of people who play collectible card games, also known as CCGS, like to PLAY AND COLLECT cards. They state that they used that valuable data to build this game from the ground up. Are you kidding me? I'm not making this up! That is like groundbreaking 4th grade research there. From an interview with the creative director on their site: What is your favorite WoTF Character Proof? I fell in love with the Blazing Phoenix Pub as soon as I saw it [when AI produced it]. It’s not the biggest or most grand place in the Wonders universe, but it has personality, grit, and a giant freakin’ phoenix over the door! I can only imagine the stories this place holds. [Yeah, we get to imagine quite a bit don't we.] From an interview with the narrative designer: Any tips for newcomers to Wonders of The First? If I had to give wonders of the first advice, I would say grab a Serialized Booster Box. Find a Character Proof that you connect with and dive into the community. So, the creative director seemed surprised to see something he should have been directing others to create and the narrative designer is focused on selling serialized booster boxes. Interesting. The price, well, they didn't work hard on making it affordable or even competitive! 9 real cards and a token for more than most CCGs on the market? I could go on, but all this to say that their team didn't really do much before they launched the project. I'm not saying projects have to be be even half complete before they launch on Kickstarter, but they are acting like they have it all together and I don't see it. They are basically we saying "We worked all out, have all the foil and card variants planned, created all the levels of rarity with a huge focus on coveted 1 of 1s, play tested online and in a game store, and we are just basically working on some stretch goals before we ship." Really? Why are people backing the project when it is evident that there isn't much there but a focus on FOMO? Are people only buying because of FOMO? I really wish people would share more, but I guess there isn't much to share. Aside from learning that, I now know CCG players like to play and collect. 👌noice

      @Kiatrox Wonders put out a new gameplay. It looked like every other game of Wonders, except they focused more on taking every stone. Didn't see any surprises. Decent play if you don't mind a very simple game with no engaging theme. I think there are something like factions in the game, not sure. If there is, there really isn't any use of it. If that game wasn't a great example of how exciting the game could be, then I don't know why they would put it out. I give it a 4 out of 10 for excitement. Never had the chance to see someone teetering at being wiped out and then attempt a comeback or someone pull off some massive combo out of nowhere. The game suffers from being so very blandly balanced. Still clueless why they call their hero/creature cards "Wonders". If they canceled the Kickstarter and worked on the game another year, I think they might have something, but as it stands. I don't see the appeal. I've never played or collected Pokémon, but Wonders makes Pokémon look very appealing, if only for the theme.

    • @Kiatrox

      @@gabo_n I think that's a fair concern. My understanding is that they essentially use their own art for the framework of the AI, although AI itself obviously learns from a large amount of data primarily open on the internet. My opinion is that as long as they do not base the works off of a specific artist that has not consented or been acknowledged it is ok, but I also do not know what art or who made the art used in the knowledge base. I do wish that the art was handmade though, there is just something special about seeing a piece and thinking how much time and effort was needed to create that. There seems to be the possibility floating around that some of the artists could create a demonstration of the process they took to create the art. I really hope they do this so that everyone is able to see the level of effort made. Also as a side note: if, for instance, the AI used was taught off of the entirety of deviantart, I could understand them not being able to credit each individual artist both due to the sheer volume of artists on the platform as well as the inability to distinguish what aspects were used in individual pieces

    No reprints is amazing for collectibility and they have the deck build score to make sure you are matching up against your opponent equally.

      How did they determine how many points strong a card is. Think about it.

      Brian put out a pretty good video about this. It's a fluid system that rates a cards power with a score. Strong card is 100 pts, weak may be 5 (total guess before release). You can play in a format that limits deck score, meaning you can make a 500 point deck out of first set cards, or any future set and if they have the same score, they will have the same power. Really cool idea.

    Appreciate seeing your perspective on the game. I'm personally excited for it. My understanding of the reprints is that theres a 24 month reprint window. After that, I think they can be reprinted but it has to be quantities less than 1,000. Little fuzzy on that so that might be slightly off.

    this screams scam no?

      Not one bit, a real product being made in america by real people who are passionate about everything card related.

      Honestly my scam radar hasn't gone off at all with this (it did with metazoo). I genuinely think this is a project made by passionate people that are excited about their game, but if you are hesitative I would say wait it out and see how you feel. What part is making you think SCAM?

      Scam how? Do you think someone with the reputation of Brian Tinsman would do a scam game? He’s spent his adult life passionately advancing the tabletop industry from leading 8 Magic sets to localizing Pokemon into North America and writing books to help others. The mechanics are built to give players and collectors what they want. Most people see themselves as both. And we are building for people that want what this offers. It’s fair to think we are bonkers and we will fail. You are free to that opinion. Saying it screams scam really is a smack in the face to all the hard work the team put in to deliver this.

      Because they are essentially selling ai generated nfts in a card format. Then promising to find a way to balance gameplay without reprints. And I have no idea how the arbitrary "power" level is going to be balanced unless they play test it to the ground before releasing it. How often have we seen sleeper cards shape metas and be way more powerful then expected? There's just a lot of promises being made with very little substance shown.

      Also, looked into tinsman a little more. Since leaving wotc he's worked on a handful of crappy mobile games and then started working for a block chain company. Then he's pitching this nft card game? I'm skeptical at the very least. Could be wrong but I hope people aren't going to lose too much money.
