    I don't understand these shader tutorials that only show you how to replicate a specific result and don't explain anything about all the different nodes and elements you are using and why you are using them... This doesn't improve your understanding of shaders. Only makes you addicted to watching tutorials...

    • @blenderbitesize
      @blenderbitesize Před 3 dny

      As the tutorial progresses, you can see what each node does. You could also take the time to experiment and play to see the changes and how they affect the node tree. That's a good way to learn. The goal of this was of course to create a specific material. Otherwise, I'd have given it a different title. There are hundreds of Blender tutorials on CZcams focusing on individual nodes if that is the type of support you are seeking.

    This video has two problems. First, why use a color ramp node to select a shade of gray? Color ramp is a mapper, maps an input to an output, without input it outputs the value to the right of the slider, white in this case. It's now acting exactly as the base color as is without anything connected. Second, if you reduce the saturation of pure white or any shade of neutral grey for what matters... you get the same exact color, no change. It's then using two nodes to set a color when no one of those is doing anything worth of mention. The node tree works exactly the same, 100% just tweaking the base color. It's a good way to explain how to use the principled for more advanced materials, but this part of the extra nodes is a bit confusing.

    • @blenderbitesize
      @blenderbitesize Před 21 dnem

      Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. As with all of my videos, they are my way of doing things. I cant always guarantee that they are the best way or the way someone else would have done it. Over the years I've noticed that there are often more than one way to do things with blender so if you find a different way that works better for you, run with it. These are mostly a spring board to encourage exploration.

  • @nuclearcrow28
    @nuclearcrow28 Před 23 dny

    What in tarnation have I just watched? The ColorRamp without input is simply as good as a preselected color, why do you even use a ColorRamp then? The Noise Texture is intentionally set to 4D, but you only use three dimensions of input. The Hue/Saturation node in your case is working with its default color - white - in which case it does NOTHING. The Hue/Saturation node changes the hue and saturation of a given color, but white has no hue or saturation. Consequently, the noise texture has no effect on anything, the ColorRamp does nothing but output a constant color, so in the end what you've achieved is literally equivalent to simply configuring the Principled BSDF node and setting it to a constant color. Literally all of the nodes you've created (besides Principled BSDF) do not serve any purpose. This is either some weird kind of post-ironic comedy, or you're a person with zero knowledge about Shader Nodes who, for some reason, tries to teach others about it.

    • @blenderbitesize
      @blenderbitesize Před 21 dnem

      Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. As with all of my videos, they are my way of achieving something. I don't claim they are the right way, the best way, or even the only way. Just a record of how I did something. If there are other ways that work, that's awesome. I just found that this combination of nodes gave me the look that I needed.

      I understand masking but you need a circle to mask, in the future how do I figure out which node or math function to use if I want to do something custom which is not available on CZcams? How will I approach it? ( I'm bad at math lol)

    • @blenderbitesize
      @blenderbitesize Před měsícem

      @@technoober8352 Press CTRL+SHIFT+LMB on each node to get a preview of what it is doing (in shading view with viewport shading enabled). If you start at the left and work your way along, you can see what each node does to the previous nodes. In this case, the Voronoi Texture is creating "cells" with shading from black through grey to white. The math node (LESS THAN) is then calculating the values within each cell and if the colour value within a cell is less than 1 (white) then it will output a value of 0 (black). If the value is 1 (white) then it will output a value of 1 (white). This black and white output from the math node (LESS THAN) creates the white circles on a black background and is then used as a mask (FAC input) within a mix shader. The top BSDF input in the mix shader will use the black areas of the mask and the bottom BSDF input in the mix shader will use the white areas from the mask. Hope this helps.

    • @blenderbitesize
      @blenderbitesize Před měsícem

      I see. You didn't mention the additional png in your previous message. That might need a different approach as it sounds like you're needing three things to be applied to your object. Whilst you can mix three things using this method you are essentially masking. You may need an alternate set up of nodes though so that the png has its original qualities but the other two textures mix. You'd also need to consider the voice animation which could be controlled by drivers linked to an audio file. Unless someone has done this before, you may need to piece this together from various other tutorials.
