Repair can indeed play a crucial role in the transition of university precincts to net zero. Here's how via ChatGPT: "Resource Conservation: Repairing existing infrastructure and buildings instead of replacing them outright conserves resources. It reduces the need for new materials, which often require significant energy for extraction, processing, and transportation. By extending the lifespan of buildings and infrastructure, universities can reduce their overall environmental footprint. Energy Efficiency: Repairing and retrofitting existing buildings to make them more energy-efficient is often more sustainable than building new structures. Improving insulation, sealing leaks, upgrading HVAC systems, and installing energy-efficient lighting can significantly reduce energy consumption and contribute to achieving net-zero emissions goals. Cost Savings: Repairing existing infrastructure can be more cost-effective in the long run compared to building new facilities. While initial repair costs may seem high, they are often outweighed by the savings in energy costs and the avoided expenses of constructing entirely new buildings. Preservation of Heritage and Character: Many university precincts contain historic buildings with architectural significance. Repairing and preserving these structures not only helps maintain the unique character of the campus but also contributes to cultural heritage conservation. It can also enhance the university's reputation as an institution committed to sustainability and preservation. Community Engagement and Education: Incorporating repair and retrofitting projects into university initiatives provides opportunities for community engagement and education. These projects can serve as living laboratories for students and researchers to learn about sustainable building practices, energy efficiency technologies, and conservation techniques. Regulatory Compliance and Stakeholder Expectations: With increasing regulations and stakeholder expectations regarding environmental sustainability, universities may be required to reduce their carbon footprint and adopt net-zero strategies. Repairing existing infrastructure can be a proactive step in meeting these regulatory requirements and fulfilling stakeholder expectations. In conclusion, repair plays a vital role in the transition of university precincts to net zero by conserving resources, improving energy efficiency, saving costs, preserving heritage, engaging the community, and meeting regulatory and stakeholder demands. It should be integrated into broader sustainability initiatives to achieve long-term environmental goals effectively." MiA is also supportive of repair cafes on university campuses where the next generation is introduced to repair and the crucial role it plays in the transition to net zero.

The most concerning feature of the Sustainable Development Goals now being developed is that are based on the assumption that we can have infinite economic growth on a finite planet. To be frank, the whole framework of the SDGs is either a display of gross ignorance, a massive failure of leadership, a profound lack of the courage needed to tell it like it is or a combination of any of the three. There IS a limit to economic growth. This MUST be acknowledged. The need of, and the planning for, the Steady State Economy must be recognised. Without such acknowledgement the SDGs deserve to be describe as deceptive Polyannaism.

Here's the document - have a read sustainabledevelopment.un.org/focussdgs.html Your "concerning feature" doesn't feature, oddly enough. Other than that, I fully agree with you. It is not perfect but it is not arguing for unlimited growth on a finite planet. On the contrary, it is arguing that we have a finite planet and we need to acknowledge that when it comes to further development.
