    Everything spot on there. Done 3 peaks 4 times. 3 for charity in mini buses, so that was over a weekend. Our walking crew did it ourselves a few years ago with a dedicated driver. Started at Snowdon at 08-00. Up and down in 2 hours, 45 minutes. Then up to the Lakes, started at Wasdale, then sent our driver all the way around to Seathwaite. Did Scafell Pike, then down Grains gill to where our driver had just pulled up at Seathwaite farm as we were coming through the farm gate! Up to Fort William for the start of the Ben at 02-00. Up to the summit and back down in Glen Nevis at 07-30. Absolutely knackered. We did it mid-June and it was one of the coldest times I have ever spent on the summit of the Ben, and that includes winter, and we all had the correct kit.

    Great video thanks for sharing the tips ! 😎 In the last few weeks I've done all 3 but hope to do the 3 peaks challenge in 24 hours just need to get my times up first ! I notice you mentioned about training I've been doing a tough section on the sw coast path between boscastle and crackington haven if you do an out and back the elevation gain is 3400 ft over 14 miles so it's a great way to get in shape and get used to going up and down steep climbs. Done the 4 peaks in Brecon 2 weeks ago that's a good one, but next I'm going to try the Yorkshire 3 peaks seems like a great challenge. Can't beat getting out into the mountains away from the crowds something unique about it and it's good for the soul 😎

    Me and two mates completed the challenge last September. We opted for the self driving and we used my company car. I was lucky enough to have my employers put my two mates on our vehicle insurance for the weekend we did the challenge so we structured the driving and resting periods between ourselves. One thing I will say is that after descending snowdon I was only able to drive from pen y pass to colwyn bay before having to pull over because I kept feeling myself drifting off to sleep. Self drive can be done for the challenge but I would recommend a long break / sleep in the car before heading off home. Also I can’t stress enough about having a very good quality head torch and back up torch with plenty of batteries.

    • @Point5TV
      @Point5TV Před 4 měsíci

      Good point on the headtorch. I had someone turn up with a 80 lumen headtorch once. It wasn't bright enough to illuminate their feet, let alone the path ahead. Get a rechargeable one and charge it in the car, so it's fresh.

These routes are the hardest I've achieved and I did both without training(not trying to brag, its just likely that I wouldn't have much chance to train for 3 peaks properly), do you think the 3 peak challenge is a similar difficulty or would I need to train? I understand it's physically more difficult but there is rest time during the travelling. If you haven't done those routes, I'd certainly recommend them, especially the "HorseShoe" route.

    Can you advise: We have a pine tree with cones, it's getting big but we just need to knw where to cut back so it keeps growing.

    • @Point5TV
      @Point5TV Před 7 měsíci

      Pines (and most conifers) are really hard to prune correctly. They lack the ability to sprout from timber (broadleaf trees do this though epicormic buds) so you’re limited in how much you can take off. You’re limited to pruning back only as far as you can maintain green leaf cover. Cut the leaves (needles) off and it won’t grow anymore. So correct pruning would be to take little and take often. Often people leave it too long and take off too much. It’s hard to give anything specific without seeing the tree and knowing its species and location. I’d contact a few local tree surgeons and see what they think.

      No, It’s not advisable to have them for lots of reasons. Wildfires being the most obvious, but also wood is scarce in places. Deadwood on the ground can be an important habitat for species and can deadwood in trees. Cutting down trees is also illegal and freshly cut wood does not burn well.

    Bit of an odd contradiction, titling this as a tutorial for the specific grade 1 scramble, then getting lost off-route completely and well into much harder climbing than is expected on North Ridge. For anyone interested, the normal route involves no climbing of obstacles any taller than myself (6'2, ~1.85m) and is overall nowhere near as technical as displayed here. The NR is easy to lose in bad weather and very unforgiving if you go off route and don't have the expertise and physical ability to boulder your way back on route. Please exercise caution or consider the Heather Terrace route.

    • @Point5TV

    I love this! I am "half-pollarding" willow, hazel, alder, ash, on my smallholding on The Wild Atlantic Way in the west of Ireland. I cut the 2- or 3-year old off-shoot branches in the second or third years...........but just half-way through, from top to bottom, so the cut-off lies horizontal. New shoots come up the following year from the gash. This forms a strong stock-proof hedge which I keep at about 4/5 meters high which increases in density each year. I don't know if this is "pollarding" but it works! Thank you for a very intresting video.

    • @Point5TV
      @Point5TV Před 7 měsíci

    Our garden group started out talking about Empress Trees then referenced pollarding trees. Our PetSmart chops all the tree branches off every spring before they can get leaves or bloom. So sad. I'm not sure if I saw you cut back to a "V" in the branches and not leave stumps. The woman who started Plant Amnesty has passed away, and leaves many training videos for everyone to learn pruning.

There is also an Elm, Pecan, and Live Oak on the fence lines, but the Live Paks are probably too large already(?). What height would be best: at fence level?, above fence level? Or under fence level? I’m trying not to ruin my neighbors new wood fence. Just trying to manage a problem on just 1/10 an acre, suburb lot. Really love your video, energy, and accent. Appreciate you sharing!
