12:32 The building at your 11 o'clock was oart of the old train station. There was a turntable to your 10 o'clock the old train tracks ran from your 9 oclock to your three oclock.

If your looking for touristy, go to Milford,PA., that's the next town.

Shopping in Matamoras (actually Westfall Township) is within walking in distance from where you were. In actuality, Port Jervis has few places to shop. Food stores (Price Chopper and Shop-Rite, good-sized strip mall, Lowe’s, Home Depot, WalMart, all in Westfall Township, just beyond the I-84 ramps.

I climbed The Vessel back in 2019, before the suicides, and it was a fantastic experience. Very organic in feeling, and lots of views from all sides.

It looks as though there would have been a second track nearer to the canopy in Middletown.

Live walking distance from the old O&W station. This particular line used to go through Sussex County , NJ and into Scranton, PA. The building was sold to a real estate developer in the late aught’s I think, he promised a lovely renewal at a town meeting (never delivered obviously). Then he kept not paying the taxes and finally the developer torched the place for insurance purposes. The last I heard he went to jail for nonpayment of taxes, who knows if he actually served any time. The second station was decommissioned in 1983, my husband rode that line on its last trip. It was turned into the library and it’s an absolutely lovely library. I’m glad you enjoyed my town 🙂

New York, Ontario, & Western. The Erie Railroad had a station, too, but moved commuter trains to its freight line which bypassed downtown.

Not a good idea to trespass on railroad property.

I worked at Ingersoll-Rand in Phillipsburg in the 1980's; I think there were approx. 1000 employees. Ingersoll Rand started there around 1903, and peak employment at the IR Phillipsburg site was around 5000 in the mid 20th century. This may help explain the presence of the train station. Based on my reading, the old IR site has been redeveloped, primarily into warehousing.

Does this station have a screen showing the status of arriving and departing trains? I’ll be departing from here this July.

The Joseph Smith Memorial Building is an office building for the Mormon church. It was originally built in 1911 as the Hotel Utah. My recollection is that it closed in the 1980s. One interesting thing you might have been interested in, between Helper and Provo, just before you descend into the valley where Provo is, used to be the town of Thistle. Thistle was largely a railroad town, it had the "helper" engines to help with going towards Helper. In 1983 there was a major landslide, which blocked a creek and -- with the melting snow from the mountains, quickly formed a lake that engulfed the town of Thistle and the railroad lines. You can still see some of the foundations of the building and the tracks were rerouted around the lake, with a new tunnel built.

The building on 43rd street next to St. Michael's Church and school used to be The police station when I was going to the school around 1957, and this police station had a stable there for the mounted police which they road into the park and along then length of 5th avenue up to 60 street and back.

It's nice you can walk through Bedford Stuy alone now. Back in 1980 I guess it was dangerous.

Newburgh is the biggest historical town in New York state by far half the city is regulated what you can do to your house such as paint color

When you drove under the underpass, that area is called "the acre". The Delaware river tends to flood this area, so unfortunately those nice houses there are not occupied because of this.

I grew up in Middletown. It was much nicer back in the 70's. It's now a suberb of the city. Not nearly as nice.
