Much like everyone here, I began by getting slightly flummoxed by Scaloni's decisions. Then, like some people here, I started thinking. There are two ways one can look at squad selections: 1. The best players in their most suited positions are being chosen, so as to make the team run perfectly - on paper! 2. The best players for the envisioned strategies are being chosen, so as to make the team run as perfectly as possible - in reality. Take the case of Nico Gonzalez. I do not fancy him much as a player. I dont think anybody is deluded enough to do so. So, previously, when he had been chosen for the squad or even played in the first team; I thought, "Why does Scaloni keep him?" Then I saw some dressing room clips. He's an invaluable part of the group. He's fun, he has energy and charm and he motivates the group to perform; even if he himself doesn't play. He has just enough quality to play internationally and he brings the intangibles with him! AND THAT IS IMPORTANT, INCREDIBLY SO! Argentina, in the past, barely had any problems with talent. They had problems with players' attitudes! Some players help to make the group stick together and perform better. There's no ignoring the mental and emotional aspect of the sport. I believe, like some others here, that Rulli & Armani over Musso & Benitez have been selected to preserve "team chemistry". Same goes for some of the other selections. We need to remember that this is preliminary, still. God forbid, some of the shoe-ins might get injured or be so out-of-form that some of the players we want might get in. Who knows, we might end up uncovering another Mac Allister. But, even combining all this logic doesn't explain Dybala's exclusion properly. Like many people, I've asked him on Instagram about it (like he's gonna respond!🤣). We'll know at some point, I'm guessing....

My only concern for the Olympic squad is coach Mascherano's tatics. In the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament we drew in four games that we should have won, while giving up a total of nine goals. Then we had to win a "Do or Die" game against Brazil and didn't score until there was only twelve minutes left in the game. With The players we may get for Paris a new game plan going to have to be made if we want that third medal de oro.

Dybala: 16 goals, 28 App total this season, Gonzalez: 14 goals, 41App. Dybala even was coleader in the assist category with Leao with 9 total. I don't understand how you overlook those stats. Though he was considered "Messi replacement", he can still come in for Lautaro, Alverez or Garnacho, if they were to get tired. Lisandro Martinez getting a call up though he only appeared in 13 games for ManU is questionable.

Selection of Rulli and Lisandro Martinez who have missed entire season doesn't make any sense. Locelso, Acuna have missed alot of matches through injury. Scaloni knows better but one name i didn't expect to miss was Marcos Senesi Dybala's case is understandable, its not because of injury but he is not a work horse.

Attitude will also play a big part in being named in the squad.

I dont understand the hatred towards Dybala from Scaloni.

Here are my thoughts 1.) Rulli: I believe Rulli was picked over Benitez because he has been with the team longer and has been unlucky not to feature in a major tournament. So, I think this time Scaloni is trying to make it up to him. Benitez should get his chance to play regularly after the Copa. Hopefully, by then Armani is gone creating space for him and Musso to get called up. 2.) Dybala hasn't been consistent for Argentina and that isn't his fault. He has been unfortunate and considering he won the World Cup and Finalissima, I think that made it easier for Scaloni to not select him although considering he hasn't won a Copa and there's not much risk in including him in a 26-man squad I think he should've been included. I hope Mascherano picks him for the Olympics. 3. Balerdi vs Nehuen Perez: I'm surprised Nehuen Perez who was called up for the last friendly (and actually played well) doesn't get called up this time.

I am very happy with squad. Just having Marcos Senesi would have been great but his time will come just after Copa. His injury during March International window was very unfortunate which probably made this decision. Also having Rulli instead of Benitez is not a big deal anyway for me as that is probably 3rd choice GK we are talking about and coaching staffs should have the liberty of choosing as they see them closely. We will have any one between Lucas Martin and Pezzela dropped( I personally would have kept LMQ as it would cover both RB and RCB) One of Acuna and Barco will be dropped( I would prefer to keep Barco) One from Carboni and Correa will be dropped( Most likely Carboni will be dropped) Sorry for Dybala but with his injury record and Messi occupying in the same role is the reason why Scaloni chose different taste of players like Correa or Carboni who are slightly different and can add versatility in the attack

Select as 2nd choice IMO, if both Lautaro and Julian score at least 4 goals in the Copa America, we'll have a really good chance of retaining it. I'm wondering if Julian-Lautaro-Messi will work as a 3 man attack forward line?
