“When I talk to people with addiction, I see the person.” It is so good and calming to listen to Tiffany speak. I remember watching her “Intervention” episode years ago, and for whatever reason I just connected with her story. I’ve struggled with addiction for more than a decade, and I continue to struggle to this day, even as I type this. I’m just stuck. I’m overwhelmed. And I’m so tired words cannot describe. I’m not even in denial anymore. Addiction is a coping mechanism for anxiety and depression for me. It’s scary because most days when I’m not really trying to fight it simply because i don’t have the mental strength, I do pretty good on those days considering the situation, and feel like it’s not too big of a problem and I can at least function, but when I sit down and tell myself that I need to get a handle on this because it’s out of my control and it’s keeping me from the life I want to live, and I start doing the hard personal work to recover, it really hits me just how deep I am in this problem, and I am up to my neck, and that feeling of realization of my situation is terrifying to me. I have one friend that knows about my situation and supports me, and I thank God everyday for helping me find her, because I was so lost and I know without her I wouldn’t have found myself, and I’d probably be gone by now. Everyone else in my life has absolutely no idea how much I’m struggling, because I’m high-functioning and appear normal to them. I can’t explain how, but I feel like it helps me just by listening to you speak. I feel like it gives me some hope. I look at you and see that you have escaped from your addiction, and live a happy life now, and I think that inspires me and gives me hope that maybe I can do the same thing and find a way out of this nightmare. I’m 31, and I have so much life left in me, it’s just being suppressed right now. But I am very thankful that there are people like you in this world. Thank you, Tiffany.
