Modifying a Athearn DCC Ready Snow blower with Lights, Sound and DCC Control of Blower and B Unit
A fellow Railroader wanted his new purchase modified to be able to have DCC control of the B unit and add sound to it. The Snow Blower unit started turning as soon as track power was supplied. He wanted to be able to control the Speed and turn it on and off using DCC. He also wanted lights added.
We used a Loksound Decoder in the B unit and added a Horn to the model. Programed the proper sound file in the decoder.
In the snow blower we removed the stock converter board. We installed a Decoder buddy with a Lockpilot decoder. We made from scratch work lights like the prototype and the rotating Beacon as seen on the UP 900080 unit. He can control the start/Stop/Speed of the blower using the DCC control for what would normally be the Speed steps.
Evan Designs size "Z" LEDs were used for the work lights.
The work lights and Rotary beacon are controlled separately by Functions on the DCC Throttle.
Actual video is recorded on his work in progress layout.
