In construction or mining you often need to build temporary access ramps or haul roads. This video shows you how to use the Trimble Earthworks system to make the design for a ramp or a haul road in the machine without needing an office design - whether its straight or curved you can set up the design in the cab and get working using autos to move dirt!

    I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me how to create a new user/operator login so I can store all of my Earthworks configurations under my name in the equipment. Or even where to find the info, I have spent hours searching. Sorry about being off topic. Your videos have been very helpful. Thanks so much.

      No problem, really pleased to hear the videos are helping! Creating user logins is done via the Technicians web interface. There is an app to open it on the screen (has a grey logo with a technician man, cog and spanner) and it requires a username and password. Generally speaking your SITECH or Machine dealer (if you got the system on your new machine from factory) normally set that up so that their technicians can log in but don't always hand out those details to the operators as there are many settings available in there for the configuration of the machine measurements etc. It's normally a case by case basis after a discussion with the customer. I'll add this to my list of videos to do and step through it - hopefully this reply helps in the meantime

      @@machinecontroltips Yes, your videos are very helpful and well thought out and easy to understand as are your comments. You made my day with your reply. Your Earthworks knowledge is impressive. Now I know what needs to be done. Thank you. Another possible video suggestion would be on master alignment because I also can't find in-depth information about the purpose of master alignment for lane guidance or other purposes. Like, what should be considered when selecting a line for master alignment? Why is a master alignment necessary? Why can't the 2 lines that need to be selected, be selected, without a master alignment? What all does selecting particular line, for a master alignment, effect what is at hand? Many lines run parallel, so what difference does it make which of the parallel lines is chosen for master alignment? Should the master alignment be deselected once the task is completed in order to prevent adverse effects with other tasks? I have some other video suggestions if you're interested.

      @@georgesimms9042 thank you! Keep the ideas coming, it’s great to have real requests to make the videos for. I’ll add Master Alignment to the list for sure, excellent questions. Just for now - I can confirm leaving the master alignment selected does not have any adverse effects on other tasks, in fact check out my text items video and use those steps to select MA Offset and Station or Chainage Text items and you can use those whenever you have a master alignment (MA) selected so you now how far away you are from it (MA Offset) and how far along it you are (Station / Chainage)

      @@machinecontroltips The amphibious excavator that I am running now is the first one that I have ran with Earthworks so I have only been using Earthworks for 3 weeks now. Here are some other questions that I have that you might be able to make videos about. Is there a way to know, with out a doubt, that automatics on a machine is not available/possible without adding the necessary hardware or software/license? Because sometimes I get in a machine that the GPS display does not say manual or auto so I just assume that the machine does not have automatics capability. What are the lines actually called? I've heard them called polylines and CAD lines and 3D lines, or are those separate types of lines, and do different types of lines, like elevation lines or edge of road lines, have different names? Can elevation lines be added between other elevation lines, to give more detail to relatively level work areas? Is it possible to find to find the amount of elevation between elevation lines without checking them with the machine guidance points? Or are they always the same graduations? Does Earthworks have something like a "managers mode" like Trimble's older guidance system? If so, how is it accessed on Earthworks? Can the shortcut bar be managed sort of like the ribbon text? As I get more questions/video ideas I will post them. Thanks.

    If you didnt want a constant grade on the slope but didnt like the grade that you have how would you go about that Im thinking how we could use this to build farm airstrips which sometimes transition from hillside to flat to flat to hillside keen to get your thoughts

    • @machinecontroltips
      @machinecontroltips Před rokem

      Thanks for the comment and the question. Great application you’ve got there with the airstrip. The constant grade button doesn’t have to be used and the individual grades between each point can be edited, either by editing the elevation of the point or the grade of the slope between them. So per your description of the airstrip it sounds like you might like 4 grades (hillside, flat, flat, hillside) so to do that I’d record 5 points for the alignment (start, end of hill side, end of flat, end of flat, end of hillside) and then edit the grades of the four “segments” between the points to suit. If the change between each grade is too sharp for the plane to run over then could smooth out with the machine by eye : manual operation or insert extra points either side of the grade change. Hope this helps, I could make another video walking through that scenario

      @@machinecontroltips Yes would be good to see how you edit exiting points up and down and yes your right the transition betweeen grades needs to be managed and extra points would possibly need to be added to create an arc between the chnages of grade Where in NZ are you. Assuming im correct
