CONCERTO FOR CHOPSTICKS - Roger Williams
Roger Williams challenged himself to compose a concerto around the few basic notes of the popular song, Chopsticks. Roger took her Chopsticks to the next level with his “A Concerto for Chopsticks”. Euphemia Amelia Nightingale Allen (July 11, 1861-Nov 9, 1948) was the Scottish composer of "The Celebrated Chop Waltz," aka "Chopsticks" at the age of 16, under the pseudonym Arthur de Lulli since it was "improper" for women to author. It was her only published piece, for both solo and duet and named as such because it strikes the keys with a chopping motion.

This is a piano solo transcription, with variations, of what might be the three most beautiful minutes of music ever written - The eighteenth variation of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Do yourself a favor and go listen to the full orchestral version, followed by listening to Rachmaninoff's second and third piano concertos, etc.

I am so amazed at how well Roger played piano. I had no idea that it was even possible to make a piano sound like he could. I miss him and seeing his performances back in the Crystal Cathedral. As a kid in the 90s, I idolized his playing. I wish I could play even a glimpse of the way he could. Joyful Joyful was one of the first songs I ever played and I played it with my mom starting at around 4 or 5 years old. Amazing memories. My mom, grandma and myself all play by ear and played together so often. Now the two of them are gone and it’s just me. The piano just doesn’t sound the same. Hopefully my grandma, my mom and Roger are saving a spot for me at the heaven’s grand piano. I sure look forward to the day when we can all be together playing music and worshipping for all eternity.

Marvelous. Chopin was called "the poet of the piano" and truly a most amazing composer. I enjoyed Roger Williams playing these beautiful pieces so exquisitely, a mixture of tender and powerful, including a favorite I learned back in 1971 (in college), The Revolutionary Etude and Fantasie Impromptu and Polonaise, that I love bit never learned. Kudos and thank you! ❤️🎹❤️🙏🎵🎶🎵🎶🎉🌟

P.S., 🎹🎶🎵🙏❤️🎊🌟🎶🎶 The Prelude in C# minor that he started with was the first Rachmaninoff piece I ever learned by music (memorization). I began lessons with a great teacher, Dr. Jerry Exline, when I was 65 years old! (I mostly play by ear and still can't sight read.). Dr. Exline also taught me Prelude in G minor, a really challenging piece. I find Rachmaninoff to be one of the most amazing composers but also one of the most CHALLENGING to play/ perform. When I think of the MULTITUDE of musical songs and compositions, from classical to modern, jazz to pop and beyond, that ROGER WILLIAMS played and put together so well, I am always impressed and appreciative. What a blessing to be able to enjoy his recordings and watch his interviews and performances! Thank you. ❤️🎹🎵🎶🎵🎶🎉🌞🙏❤️😁

What a insightful interview! Mr. Piano said it so well, his point and his philosophy that: "Take what you want out of life, but pay for it." "We've all got to find out what we do best and DO IT!". Roger Williams was blessed with great talent, an amazing ear, and had a great work (practice) ethic that all great pianists (or mastery in anyrhing takes). Desire and commitment were powerful forces in this marvelous man. I remember reading it takes 10,000 hours to master an instrument (in this case, piano, although Roger Williams could play over a dozen instruments and probably could have mastered any one if them). What impressed me about Mr. Piano when I met him (twice) was his friendliness, insight, genuineness, and desire to encourage others. 🎹❤️🎶🎵🎉🙏❤️

Granted it's the first "piano recording" to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, however, given all the accompanying strings in the studio version, if this qualifies as such, then it's not the only one of its kind to do so. The title theme from "Chariots of Fire" also reached number one. It's as much of a piano recording as "Autumn Leaves".
