I got to ask the last question of the day...she copped out on my follow-up question, but what do you expect from an Establishment Dem? :-)
Frank Zappa Plays RDNZL

Stadio Communale La Favorita - Palermo, Italy July, 14, 1982. The last concert of the 1982 tour ended in a riot. This song is early in the set, so you don't catch any of the extra-curriculars (and there were plenty!) This clip shows FZ as conductor and guitarist (playing a wicked lead), and some shots of the band towards the end.
Thats about the ugliest looking strat ive ever seen🤮 But what the hey,.. It still sounds spotless in the hands of maestro Frank!
Totally fuckin' underrrated keybordist - FOCKIN' TOMMY MARS , FUCK ROCK ON !!!!!!!
the best moment imho before the guitar solo......hmmm grooving time.....
genius!! the best!!
2:43 ah
200, 000 views and only 1% are on board … ??? What is wrong with my life? I will tell you NOTHING!!! this is and ALWAYS has been FUCKING GREAT… if there is anyone out there who does’t believe that this is fucking great than they should go now because this show will bring them down so much …
Love the music but the camera work was awful.
Never heard this slow version before. Awesome!
Scott Thune's bass lines during the latin parts after the solo... wtf! He's a monster!
Frank’s entrance on his solo is epic. He doesn’t just tentatively ease in here- from the first note he’s definitive about his musical thoughts.
does anybody know what this recording is a part of? Is there a full DVD perhaps?
Please don't forget the incredible Tommy Mars. And Ed Mann.
If you're looking for a physical and mental workout that pulls, twists, and snaps your emotional strings while you hold a relaxed inner yoga pose, this is it.
Wow. This footage is gem.
Those shorts though !
THIS IS THE PALERMO CONCERT THAT LASTED 40 MINUTES DUE TO THE RIOTS IN THE STADIUM. THE GROUP WAS SURROUNDED BY MOSQUITOES (SEE THE COVER OF "THE MAN FROM UTOPIA"). FRANK WAS VERY HESITANT TO PLAY IN PALERMO ON THE 1982 EUROPEAN TOUR BUT HIS FRIEND MASSIMO BASSOLI CONVINCED HIM. GREAT SOLO BY FRANK AND WE ALSO HEAR VERDI'S AIDA
Uncle Frank Genius Lives! Strong Powerful Solo✨♥️
Best Guitar solo I ever heard. Frank! You crazed genius. 50 years I still can't get enough. A little Zappa every day keeps me going in these days of post freedom, post liberty and post justice. Not to mention post music.
RDNZL is awesome. This is an incredibly tight band! 'The Present-Day Composer Refuses to Die', FZ.
Great, Unique Uncle Frank! Stellar Solo✨Saw and Heard the same tour in Naples 1982 San Paolo Stadium, The Stones came a few days later!
Quite standard jazzfusion solo's over a chord riff...why is everyone so impressed? I was a FZ + The Mothers fan in the old days. But the long jazzrock solo's are not as interesting as the music of Zawinul, or today groups, like Snarky Puppy and many others great young jazz fusion players of our time. But in the eighties it might have been still new.. And by the way, I don't understand why FZ is conducting the straight forward music of the band (playing march in 4/4)? It looks to me like FZ is somewhat posing. When FZ was working on his complex more classical inspired music with a large orchestra, than it maked sense (Yellow Shark). This is almost like acting. Sorry.
Probably because improvisation is often a representation of the musician's personality and some people prefer the personalities of Zappa and his band members over Zawinul, Snarky Puppy, ect. Or perhaps they dig it all and are just vibing to the music in this video and commenting their excitement.
ZAPPA LE PURISTE .
Don't get me wrong here, I worship the ground FZ walks on, but the conducting just seemed very pretentious. The fact that he stopped and the band carried on perfectly just shows how unnescessary it was.
He's giving YOU the evil eye at 2:28.
Music is the best, the band is having such fun.
why the copyright is 1978, as the recording is said to be 1982? Is that the copyright of the tune, not de recording? And why do we see FZ almost all the time in the film, while the band is playing his great music? He produced the film, so he could have made other choices...? Now it looks like a fan who caught FZ with a mobil (wich didn't exist in those days).
The only thing wrong with this video is that some jackass put advertisments in the middle, there oughta be a law against it.
It takes a very high degree of tastefulness to utilize pitch bending and shifting as well as Frank did. That guitar solo is absolutely monstruous, made moreso by the excellent key change that precedes it. You know it's coming, but it's still a fantastic ride.
Houlala ! Grandiose ! Quel Génie !
There are only two guitarist i can stand with playing long solos, Frank and John Scofield. They both play far away from the common phrases..
Rolf. I appreciate your well written comments. Yes. There is no way to understand the brilliance that was Frank Zappa. I was lucky enough to have been able to see him a tremendous amount of times starting in 1968 at the Fillmore East. We both agree. It was the very best music and I’m so happy I was part of the fan base !
This is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but I think Zappa conducting is totally unnecessary. At least in this case but most other band performances too. Other than that, Frank was and forevermore will be da man!
FRANK ZAPPA IS THE BEST!!
Seems to be the exact version used on YCDTOSA Vol 5 ! Great vid !
From somewhere completely else.......amazing !
2:45 of Frank beating time. Were there other musicians on stage?
no matter how much i listen im still amazed what a loss for humanity!
This is really good
the person that inserted an ad-break into this just as tommy mars starts tinkling the ivories is a sick fuck!
Compared to the Helsinki version it's like on valium, but still great of course
Does anybody know the name of the piece that is quoted after the vibes/keyboard solos?
1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3, its a waltz..
Don’t know if I’ll get Zappa really much at all, to get it is to learn and understand complex mathematics which I don’t think I’m capable of. n so just got Weasels ripped on CD n maybe will always only kind of enjoy one or two tracks ,: 0
HaHa - someone hits a bum note at 2:26 - look at Zappas face, he's not happy.
i mean, what?
What, what?!
Frank is a great musician, but he is a composer first.
How is Frank Zappa not a top 5 Rock guitar player on everyone's list?
Frank Zappa still manages to shock me at times with how outrageously good he was.
Even if you don't like his guitar technique, you can't say his tone isn't awesome
How could someone not like his technique? He was the only person to have one like that.
The idiots might play well but they wrecked the band by hating the bass player making him walk away; that band had a few years left otherwise.
