Gerry's beam engine made in Stokys
Among steam model builders, Gerry's beam engine is a widely used design. This one is driven by an old M1 Stokys motor and was constructed using Stokys parts. Meccano only refers to the flywheel and a few smaller components .
Since the motor makes a lot of noise, I kept the audio in this movie to a minimum.
Its attractive appearance effectively displays all of the functional aspects of these engines.

Meccano Magazine Wall Clock
zhlédnutí 286Před 2 měsíci
I have always wanted to build a Meccano clock, for me the ultimate chalenge. This is a model plan from an old Meccano magazine. The clock is fairly easy to build, but difficult to adjust properly. Once this is accomplished, it runs fine. Because I didn't use the right gears, the clock is’nt running on time, but I am very satisfied with the mechanism.
Stokys Grasshopper beam engine

The model is based on a photograph of a German 'halbbalancier' steam engine build in 1847. It is a simple to build steam engine with all main features visible.
Meccano Mechanical horse, an outfit 9 model

Fun to build model. Various possibilities to improve this model. Plenty of room underneath the bonnet for RC control of motor and steering. Chassis will take a small differential and gearbox. A rubber front wheel for better running is recommended.
Meccano Vertical Lifting Bridge, an outfit 9 model
zhlédnutí 802Před 6 měsíci
A realistic model from the 1949 set 9 manual, driven by clockwork motor no 2, made in nickel and red parts. It is'nt powerful enough though to lift the middle section completely, so I replaced it by a geared 6 V motor. Building is not that difficult. Fitting the hoisting cords need special attention to lift the bridge in an up-right position.
Meccano Special Edition crane in STOKYS
zhlédnutí 836Před 6 měsíci
I was recently able to purchase the Meccano special edition set. It has now been 25 years since it was introduced. The crane is easy to build, but the model looks a bit clumsy and the operation is basic. However, the design can serve well to make it in Stokys. This model looks and works more refined.

Meccano - Midland Railway Five-Ton Portable Crane
zhlédnutí 1,3KPřed 9 měsíci
Meccano Model of a fully hand-operated 'portable' railway crane, designed by Rob Mitchell. It is built from the instructions of ModelPlan 206, but has also been printed in the Sheffield Meccano Guild Magazine (October 2013). A fun-to-build, appealing model. For the instructions, see: www.meccanoindex.co.uk/SMG/smg_ind.php?Mag=SMGJ118_Oct2013&Mpage=40&MtypeNo=0&AuthorNo=0&Stext=crane&page=1
Meccano/Stokys 4-2-2 locomotive and tender
zhlédnutí 3,5KPřed 11 měsíci
Based on the Meccano model plan of a Midland 4-2-2 loco, this model has been made mostly with Stokys parts. Powered by a N20 6 V geared motor and controlled by an infrared controller. The train runs on Märklin gauge 1 track. www.meccanoindex.co.uk/Mmanuals/1922/Manuals/1-26-06-10'5.pdf
Meccano Steam Excavator SM 19a
zhlédnutí 13KPřed 11 měsíci
This Meccano model of a steam excavator or mechanical digger is based on the 1929 super modelplan. Instead of the original Meccano steam engine of that era, which I do not own, I made use of the Kleinemeier 'sort-of' replica. The model represents functional levers controlling the engine, hoisting, racking, slewing and traveling motions. www.meccanoindex.co.uk/Mmanuals/Other/Manuals/SML-19a-29-1...
Meccano Transporter Bridge SM 21
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed 11 měsíci
Suspension type transporter bridge with an automatic reversing mechanism, driven by a 20 Volt Meccano Motor. The mechanism needs very careful adjustment to make it work. The model itself is relatively easy to construct and needs a lot of space. L: 115 cm ( 45.3") H: 84,5 cm ( 33.2") W: 37,5 cm ( 14.7") www.meccanoindex.co.uk/Mmanuals/Other/Manuals/SML-21-28-11.pdf

Ok now build a one which can move a human and partake in LeMans.
Wooooooooooow! Thank you very much for sharing something as valuable as "Instructions Book No. 1" I started building my first MECCANO models when I was eight years old, now I'm 70 and I still get excited putting together different models. I send you an affectionate greeting from Mexico City, CDMX. THANK YOU!!!
Hi, where I can get it? Link?
Brings back memories.
Amazing.
Nice model which I have looked at the plans for a few times but never got around to building……..so a bit of inspiration here to have ago!
It is very rewarding to construct. Happy building!
Are there any plans for this model.
www.meccanoindex.co.uk/Mmanuals/Other/Manuals/SML-01-32-04.pdf. Lots more to build on this site.
What does the beam connected to the piston housing (not the piston itself) and the top beam do? My first thought was that it was to keep the piston shaft from twisting, but then again it seems like that linkage would still have the piston shaft moving on an arc... I don't know. Apologies for any confusing terminology, I'm not familiar with steam engine vocabulary haha Also cool build!!
Thank you for analysing the video. The function of this beam is to keep the piston shaft straight during the movement. Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. I hope it's clear what I wanted to say.
The coupling system looks and sounds convincing.
Thank you!
So smooth!
😍😍😍
The old red & green models are just a pleasure to watch.
My father explained me how a differential works with a meccano model, more than 40 years ago...
BESUTIFULL 😮
Magnífico. Enhorabuena.
nah! the noise of gears just grinding is much better than a electric motor. Lovely model
Thank you!
Its beautiful.
Great model. The inner forkpieces of the cardan drive must be aligned, otherwise the output drive is non linear.
Thank you for your remark!
Thanks for this film - I want to make this model, and your shots of the valve gear, particularly the pump are a help - the illustrations aren't any too clear. I have some nickel parts myself - inherited!
Thank you. Good luck with building this classic model.
Very nice indeed. I've built this fellow, but using a different Meccano Motor which meant I had to alter a few things. Must build it again some time. My most recent model is the Foden steam lorry and trailer, originally from a late 1920's Meccano Magazine - and it needs a big room to let it run in a circle. Furniture is a nuisance sometimes.
Thank you for your reply. It was a joy to construct this model.
That's a nice, neat piece of work. Tell me, that nifty little winding handle - is it either a very, very early Meccano part, or from somwhere else? I don't recall seeing ne like it before.
Thank you. The winding handel is a Constructor part, a Dutch construction set from the 50s. It is full brass and looks great on this model.
Meccano Modellers club in Sydney (Australia built a6 metre long version and exhibited it in France and U.K. Tom Hughes
Thanks for your reply. Must have been quite a job to transport it to Europe! Is there a video somewhere to see it working?
very impressive model well done
Very nice indeed. Thank you for sharing.
GREAT! love it!
Last year I was able to get hold of some Stokys parts. It is a great construction toy, still in production, but unfortunately, very expensive when you live outside Switzerland. 😟
Thank you! Great to see a new video of this GREAT model! I like the 1929 steam engine of meccano a lot, but I think you did well with the Kleinemeyer engine, I like them too. I MUST get my meccano out to play! xD THIS is the model I like to build the most! Cordial greetings! Géréon (a north german, born in Hannover, close to Hamburg, living at the lake geneva)
Thank you! It is indeed a great model to build and it is fun to operate the engine. When well adjusted, everything works smoothly. Don't think I will disassemble it for parts, same for the motor chassis.
Felicidades! Un modelo clásico precioso, gracias por compartirlo.
¡Muchas gracias!
Incredible build, exactly what I’ve been dreaming of. I’d love to see this on a crawler chassis. If you ever consider selling or building another, you’ve got a customer.
Thank you for your kind remark. Just collect the parts, the steam engine and start building! It is great fun to build and play with.
I’m a complete newbie. Can you recommend any specific vintage sets that would contain most of the pieces needed to replicate this?
@@telepresence start with a set 8 or 9, great value for money. You can build lots of models with it. There are several online dealers for spare parts. All Meccano model plans are available on the internet at meccanoindex.co.uk. Happy building!
brilliant when i was young the car chassis was my favourite thing to try to master i never got to this level but it tough me all i know about how a car functions and thats why i could strip down a mini and of course led to a life time of engineering that car is fantastic love it well done
Thank you! In fact, the designer of the Mini, Sir Alec Issigonis, used Meccano to come to this car.
I'll take seven
Did it come with firebox and boiler etc ?
No, the original Meccano design is without both of them.
i wish they still made toys like these...

Ah...modern day "Erector-Set"
Such iron constructors were supplied to the USSR in every store. I had more than 10 of them. Until now, some elements are somewhere in the garage. They were very popular. But, without any electrical components and gears of course.
Time to dig them up and start building again!
Really enjoyed this film. I built this model myself a few years ago, so I can appreciate some of the adjustments needed to make it run that well. I'm a big fan of true steam shovels (sad, innit?) and this was probably the most authentic model, in terms of mechanism and appearance that Meccano published.
Thank you for your reaction. It is indeed a very attractive model with all functions working supprisingly well. I am also interested in building the Meccano 1913 steam navvy. Unfortunately, the instructions and illustrations are a bit meager
If I remember rightly, that's the one whose illustrations are hand drawn'? From memory it's based on a Ruston Dunbar navvy, with the boom alone rotating through a semi-circle. (Rather like an American Marion railroad shovel, if you know the machine.) It dates from the days before Meccano had plates to fill in the gaps!@@meccado4848
Runs smoothly and pleasant sounds in the locomotive.
Y. Y.? 1
Thank you. Due to the lightweight construction, the loco runs smoothly with a very small motor.
Nice Nickel!
Nice video! Don't know if any 3D printing or CNC services are needed for your upcoming content, if so, would love to sponsor and achieve any cooperation together! (PCBWay Daisy)
Great video - like !!!!!
👍
Works well. Most impressive. 🏆
Thank you, Johnny
i was expecting this channel to have at least 100k subs for the quality of the video and the amount of work to make the excavator. good job and i hope you can gain more subs :)
Thanks to CZcams we can share our Meccano models with the rest of the world
Well done good video of the model as well
Thank you, Chris
This what CZcams should be about, amazing craftsmanship and skill, not clickbait minecraft videos
If folks quit clicking on em, dislike them, etc, it'll help them get dragged down to the depths of hell where clickbait belongs
It's fun to make videos like this.
its a work of art
Thanks to the anonymous meccano designers
Fabulous!
Thank you!
Very soporific................................................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Lovely model.
Thanks!
Great model! The red vintage E20 electric motor once again fulfills its duty. Those are amazing motors. They work great even after 90 years if you're willing to take care of them a bit.
Thank you! This motor is doing a great job. Still reluctant to open and clean it, it is running fine now.
