The Big Ugly Secret Of The Coffee Industry
Coffee has a big, ugly secret!
There is something the coffee industry does not want to talk about: the fundamentally unfair structure which forms the foundation of the entire industry.
Watch as we reveal the ugly truth, and learn how we do things differently.
The coffee value chain is deeply unfair. Value is generated far away from where the coffee grows. The result:
Every cup of coffee you drink increases the gap between the rich and the poor.
Learn how a better coffee industry can be built. One that benefits the coffee producing countries far more. For job creation and sustainable development.
5X impact is possible!
Wild is a Ugandan coffee company on a mission to change the coffee industry. We offer premium African coffee, directly from the birthplace of coffee.
No middlemen. Maximum impact.

In this video he will show us how to make honey processed coffee. It's a lot of work, but worth it: his coffee tastes amazing. Joel grows his coffee on the slopes of Mt Elgon in eastern Uganda, just next to the magnificent Sipi Falls. This area has perfec...

Thanks sir but l want to know about coffee

Loving this!
That's really a noble idea but you face many challenges. Roasted coffee has a shelf life. It looses flavor fast after it's roasted. Most people would not know the difference but the coffee drinker who wants the best will know. When I am in Uganda and roast up a batch of my specialty Fermented Naturals and offer a cup to my Ugandan friends, they add so much sugar and milk that the roast profile doesn't really matter at all. Selling roasted does add value but your just going to be another bag on the shelf competing for that sale. Shipping it to to USA or the EU will be a hard sale. Good luck. I would recommend focusing on providing good cherries and not picking green or un-ripes and mingling them in with the batch.
Hi Mick! Thanks for watching our video, and for offering your feedback. You are very right, there are many challenges to this approach. However, we believe we have found ways to overcome most of them. We don't sell through supermarkets or other channels where shelf life is a huge challenge. Instead, we offer a coffee subscription delivered directly to the end consumer. Our international customers (so far in Norway only) receive their coffee in their mailbox within one week of roasting. Meaning we offer some of the freshest coffee on the market. We also have zero warehouses in our distribution chain. This is also why we are able to bring so much of the value back to Uganda. No middlemen are eating the profits.
@@TheWildBrand I'm happy to hear that is working for you and Wild. I'm assuming you have a commercial roaster and not the traditional pan on a 3 stone fire. I have been doing coffee in Kapchorwa for a couple of years and ship (green) to the USA but have since abandoned the export side and now focus on the supply side. Would love to cup some of your coffee.
@@buttonboxguy Next time you're in Kampala, please pass by Wild Coffee Bar on 7th Street, Industrial Area for a cup!

Nice bro
God loves you beautiful angel
I love this guy.
And very great visual as well.
This guy is rich in knowledge ❤❤❤. I wish I meet him for more information
I am very saddened by the fact these farmers and their staff work so hard with so much passion yet only get a few dollars a pound. Meanwhile the roasters charge upwards of $30 a pound. The industry needs to change. At a minimum it should be 50/50 split of what the coffee is sold for.
what skill and knowledge joel has! i am in awe. thank you for teaching us about all his hard work!
Thank you so much Veronica for the kind words. It inspires us to make more videos like this.
我希望更多人能了解你們,更多人能品嚐到你們的咖啡☕️拓展合作業務,努力追求夢想,成為真正的咖啡英雄🦸🦸 來自上海的愛❤❤❤
Thank you Erica! ❤

Thank you Mike. 🙂
@@TheWildBrand Thank you, I hope people are still enjoying Joel's coffee to this day in Uganda. Even more now.
@@mellowmike4306 We are. Joel's coffee is still great. But coffee farmers always face challenges. We need to make a follow up episode with Joel so he can share the latest.
This vedio helps me understand honey processing a lot. Thank you.
The spirit of passion 🫡
Good work. It wouldn't work for my customers to buy roasted coffee. I always adjust the amount I roast for serving. My customer drinks one that has been roasted for a maximum of two weeks, otherwise too much flavor is lost. The only exception is espresso, which is prepared between 10 and 21 days after roasting for an optimal profile.
different coffee colors
Stumbled across this video, and what a great insight into the honey process as well as an exposition on Mr. Joel Kaburu. He exudes passion, humility, and love for coffee and those around him. I tried some Ugandan coffee for the first time in a recent coffee tasting I did and it was the clear favorite amongst our group! Would love to try Joel’s coffee whenever y’all expand exporting to the US!
Thanks, Jake! We are really glad you liked it. And we hope to be ready to start shipping to the US very soon!

That sucks that people are taking advantage of these farmers by charging very little. Glad your doing something better for the farmers. This documentary really makes you appreciate the coffee that we drink.
Thank you! It is very true: the farmers are the weakest link in the coffee value chain, and unfortunately, there are quite a few actors exploiting them, We believe the best solution is more transparency, traceability and establishing a direct link between the farmer and the end consumer.
Thank you for such wonderful documentary. Well done to producers and farmers.
Thank you Chan! We are glad to hear you liked to video. We'll keep making more. 🙂

Many thanks for uploading this. A great insight into the process and makes me appreciate how labour intensive it it. I hope you get a good price for all your hard work! It's a shame we don't see Ugandan coffee very much in the UK.
Thanks for the kind words, Steve. Joel and other coffee farmers like him definitely deserves to be better paid for their hard work and dedication. We are very happy to buy his coffee at a premium price. And good news: Wild is working to launch our coffee subscription in the UK as soon as possible. Cheers!
Thank you. It’s really interesting to hear Monsieur Lwaboshi speaking partly in French and in English, mixed with words from Congo. And this landscape is absolutely wonderful.
