66 Shelby Mustang Rust repair VS patch panel
Just brought home a '64 Catalina 2+2 from resto/body shop. The gap to front fender is fair, probably should have been wider. I installed new door weatherstrip, but haven't closed the door all the way with the resistance and concern about that fender gap. It looks like it's even closer now. I'm concerned with it rubbing my new paint. Is that accurate, the weatherstrip will push the door toward the fender meaning I need to readjust? Thanks in advance.
Thank you for this video! Extremely helpful and one of the better explanations on YT! I am curious, you don't mention the striker installation or adjustment. At what point in the process do you deal with the striker? I see that the striker is removed during adjustments. Assuming this happens after all other adjustments? Would love to hear your approach.
Love your wrap ups....thanks again for what you did to help us out of a jam....
Can you make a video installing a door start to finish?
Thanks for this video it helps a lot.
Nice! I know what I'll be doing tomorrow! My Jeep door won't close at all. This should fix me up.
Our car was hit at night (in front of the house), and the DS door was bent and jammed till the extend I think to replace it. But it is a question how to remove that door. A large bent is on the central and bottom part with some sharp crevices near the lower hinge. The blow was so strong that the car was moved from the road to the side walk. That hinge is bent from its normal position, and I can't open that door. I thought to apply a braker bar, but after this film think to play around with that lower hinge by lifting or lower the door and try to open it that way. Thank you very much for this informative film.
Incredible amount of work from a 2 man shop!! Great job, thanks for the update..
Awesome tutorial...
That X was the best thing i learned today. Thank you!!!!
I have a 67 Fairlane with movable door plates
Years of experience you can tell by his cool and calm explanation.
Thanks. Will help re align my cadillac passenger door ✌️
thanks so much
Awesome ride. Hope to follow this one!
More sheet metal videos please! ha
❤ thank you very much Will this apply to 2nd gen f body as well. You make this seem easy. I've been aggravated at passenger side door. I just got my driver side door and window adjusted. I'm putting tape on my door to help me remember the adjustment. Thanks
So glad you made this video. Thank you about to attempt to bend the door myself.
This is the best DIY auto video. Superb
Thanks for an awesome video!!
Excellent information. Thanks for making it. Been wrestling a 88 grand wagoneer door....I think I have made every mistake possible. Have one more. The front door seems more like a truck door hinge. Just need to get the bottom to pull in. I will put me an big "x" on it this weekend and have a beer to help my thinking then try it again...instead of using the drunk monkey technique used on the last three that I just got lucky on and learned nothing ....I learned more in this one video than doing it the 6 times I've attempted it on this jeep...thanks again
I have a cargo van that making a lot of noise. Driver side door top has a gap towards the back corner.
Thanks for the great instructions! Really good video!
Hinge pins?
You have explained this the best of anyone ! Thanks so much for sharing, this is very valuable knowledge ! Maybe I can get the gaps more correct on my 68 Camaro now.😊
not many understand to start from qtr , pivotal
Amazing explication! Thanks for sharing from Brazil!
Ty
I know I'm late saying thanks but you really helped
Thanks, how do you adjust door latch catch posts, great videos, hope to see more
Beautiful job guys!!
How do ypu adjust the bottom door side hinge being they are Phillips head and half the hinge is in the way
What kind of car are we talking about ,assuming with Phillips head bolts its a Nova ,if there tight it is difficult to get to the cowl bolts with out removing the fender and you will probably need and inpact screw driver .

My Honda latch will catch & lock onto a screwdriver, but it won’t stay latched to the striker post. Is there a remedy for this? Thanks in advance.
Try adjusting striker out towards door just a little bit
doreskin
Nicely Done, Very Nicely Done! Just bought a 2007 Chevy Silverado and as I opened the drivers front door I hear a hard crunch screech of sorts. I can see a point about 1/3 up on the front of the door hitting on the rear of the front driver fender. Was going to try to loosen bolts and adjust but this seems very logical and I do have many many sockets. So, front door hitting on bottom 1/3 to front fender, therefore must make go up, therefore must use a socket on lower hinge. I'd worry about my fingers but they have already been destroyed from wrenches breaking torques and my poor fingers crashing into brackets to save the wrench. Nicely Done, Very Nicely Done, Thanks!!!!!
Great video. My door is outboard at the top rear and inboard at the bottom rear. I'll try the hinge to door adjustment.
Tube, not pipe. I think you called it tube once and pipe 100 times
I want to make the bottom of go in, whilst bringing the top out (i.e. rotate the door slightly clockwise). Would this mean tightening the top hinge, and loosening the bottom?
Need more info are we talking about front bottom rear bottom or whole bottom?
Just seen this. The rear of the door towards the back wheel arch is sticking out too far at the bottom. The rest of the bottom of the door aligns okay as you move towards the front of the door by the front wheels
What if you were replacing the quarter panel? How would you know where to set the door the align the fender and quarter panels?
Change the 1/4 first it will dictate the door location
Thank you probably the best explanation I have found! Do you recommend the door latch hardware/Stryker on to do the adjustments?
I usually leave it on but removing it could be helpful
i have a 98' olds 88. i backed the door into a post a month ago, right into the door arm rest. the door then overlapped the front fender. so i put the socket in the hinge, because i could see the hinge was bent out a little. it's still not flush to the body like on the other side. the lower hinge has a pin in the way of putting a socket in there. the back of the door is now too close to the back door. the top of the door frame seems right, but the where the window frame meets the windshield, there's about a 3/4 inch gap. i dont even know what to do there. if i cant do it myself the car isn't worth enough to pay a garage, so it'll end up scrappted even though its a clean car.
realized pushing in on the door with the socket in there has actually caved in the door where it bolts to the hinge

I've been welding and fabricating for many years. So speaking from experience the amount of knowledge on this channel is invaluable and looking forward to future vids... Great job Phil 💯
Thank you for your valuable explanation
Great explanation. Moving the top hinge forward will raise the door like you explained. So moving the bottom hinge back should raise the door?? I have an 85 c10 an i just cant get consistent gaps. Top gap along the drip rail is wide it gets worse as you follow door towards the rear of the cab. Top rear gap along the cab is wider than the bottom rear gap. Give me a hard time.
i backed up with the door open and bent the door too far. the front of the door overlaps the fender , plus the front of the door is hanging noticeably low. i can see the top hinge is bent outward bending it back hasn't fixed the gap. am i better off going to a junk yard and getting a hinger that's not bent than trying to fix these hinges?
I will try to do a video on bending hindges this week so look for it
So is tuning nut right moving in or out at bottom?
So i Guess is out losing
First thing I'm the dumbest person on earth mechanical, so. My pt cruiser got hit lightly the bottom door where Mark is ,is in and the top is out a bit . So do I loosten the bottom ?
Thank you so much! This Video Saved me a ton of time and frustration. I was getting a terrible whistling noise; now its gone. Thank you Thank you!
