I've kept poultry for about 30years and have only had a problem two or three times. This year has been a strange one,lots of rain here which is very unusual. We need better easier to clean hen houses,but all bedding is replaced weekly and all nest areas have a good couple of inches of diatomaceous earth mixed in plus added to dust bath areas regularly along with woodash when we have that available.

A few years ago my garden was full of medicinal and magical herbs I grew and sold..unfortunately life and chronic illness ( and errant animals plus weather) put paid to that for now, hopefully next year I will have a full herb garden again 😀

@@Becky-tp7gm mullein ,plantain,comfrey,thyme,calendula, are my most used..too many to list all my favourites 😆

@@EmbracethechaosPortugal awesome! i have most of those, the plantain grows wild here, and the only one I don't have yet is comfrey, but my mother-in-law is going to give me some of hers, because it is taking over at her house, and she's tired of it LOL!!! Mullein is so great! I'm excited for mine as I am just growing it for the first time this year myself, and it's looking really good so far.

It is all decent stuff..but oh my.. so heavy!! The dimensions were not great so a lot of grunting and some cussing to get nearly all of it inside ..huge wardrobe still out as we can't work out how to navigate the corners to get it to where it needs to be. The huge dresser near killed us a few times!

Oh and the bed base slats don't fit in doors, main doors are 6ft tall but bedroom doorways are 5ft 9 😮 so put it together with a hastily made self build base..it fills my room 😅

I love them, however only if I'm somewhere safe, gladly we don't get Tornados and so far never had flood issues..I was hoping for rain,but not one single drop fell,though you can clearly see its raining a couple of miles away on the other side of the river. I find it all really interesting..the power of nature ❤

Jacaranda trees,so gorgeous and their scent is incredible!One of the things I love most about our area is the diversity of trees,even in towns there are lots that put on these beautiful floral displays ❤ Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. 😊

Here almost every town has a market on different days, vendors like you see here go round different towns each day to set up their wares, markets tend to be from 8am until about 1pm..amazes me how much effort it takes,especially with the big clothing stalls etc to pack and unpack!Often only 2 people to unload a truck,set up,and break down and pack away in just a few hours! Like magic!The Portuguese certainly are hard working people!

Yes Baccalau ( salt cod) is a staple meal here, I've long forgotten why..Traditionally eaten more than once a week! Also as the main meal at Christmas and some other important days. The fish is soaked in water several times over a few days to remove most of the salt, then prepared in lots of different ways, simply cooked with potatoes very very plainly, or with eggs and olives, or with cream. My favourite way so far is Baccalau com natas, which is the cod in creamy sauce ,I like it baked in a pie.

I'm looking forward to growing more of our own meat for sure! Our garden is desperate for manure too..yes unfortunately there's a lot of overuse of chemicals here,but I'm lucky in that the neighbours either side haven't used any, two properties over the owner appears twice a year and sprays round up all over his land,I don't understand as they never even harvest the fruit trees he claims to be protecting..I guess old habits die hard! We do a bit of canning too,but garden not looking so great this year so far,time will tell what we have to save 😉.Thankyou..I totally forgot to film in landscape and was way too wobbly..keep watching for hopefully improved videos soon 😀

She really is a fiesty little thing..fingers and toes are crossed that she recovers! ( I'm guessing she's female due to the attitude,delicate short beak and rounded eyes..not a guarantee with silkies until they are fully mature though!)

Yes indeed the little chick did just fine ,I was so relieved! Really need to work on better broody coops for them,but everything will improve in time..watch this space 😉

The chaos is real here! I'm setting myself a challenge,to tackle one scary area a week..calling it the " Corner of doom" keep an eye to see all of the corners of doom I need to tackle! The idea is to motivate myself,and maybe encourage others to challenge themselves too. Will be posting updates soon! The greenhouse was ignored for way too long..all the spare stuff has been given to someone setting up a new project..Happy days 😀

They really are characters..and fantastic layers! I'm actually thinking to get more of them instead of more laying hens.

The eggs are a little larger and are usually attached to the underside of the eggcarton or buried in the top layer of the feed layer. I may have lost some,due to the amount of damp clogged stuff I threw out,but the wild birds and beasties will enjoy those. The frass is the beetle poop.

That will likely be the last time it's green this year,the horses eat it down to dirt,and the strong sun dries anything they've not munched to a crisp. Comes back in Autumn though. ❤
