    Congrats on getting another one completed. It certainly does feel great to get that clean slate, even if it's -ish. I plan to make a magic knot ball with all of my fingering wool scraps as I accumulate them, but there are just some scrap sizes that do not work, unfortunately. For those nearly unusable scraps, many people save them in a bag and use them, along with fiberfill, to stuff amigurumi or pillows. Take care, WSK!

    Hi WSK. If those are the only choices....I don't really have an opinion on which would be better. Personally, I'd use a gray, even if it meant I had to purchase a skein or two because even though that may not be in keeping with your objective for the blanket. My answer, in this case, would be aesthetics matter more, but your answer may be stash-busting matters more. There is no wrong answer, just various choices. I'm sure you'll make the right one for you. Take care.

    • @writesewknit
      @writesewknit Před 5 měsíci

      You're right about the grey being a good choice for aesthetics but I'm not too worried if it is a bit wonky in the color choices. I think it will be a Cinderella type situation and whichever yarn I have enough of will be the one I end up using.

    This is the first I heard of 'Clean Slate February'. Interesting. I have one pesky project that I don't want to work on but It also causes anxiety that it still exists on the roster. It would be a candidate for that initiative. Great job getting another project completed toward your goal!

      Finish it February is what I have seen it called but it doesn't seem to be that big. I added my own twist with the clean slate part and stickers, but I have come across other videos that talk about doing the easiest ones first and wanting to finish all their projects. I totally know what you mean about it being emotional to finish projects. If you feel up to it you should use this as an excuse to make progress towards finishing up the project you mentioned.

    I wish I had some sage advice on how to finish large projects but I don't. In general, I don't struggle often to do so. My recent issues aren't about difficulties with large projects, it's about not having any crochet time at all, which I am trying to make changes and regain that time. For the last 30ish years I was a person that only had one WIP and would not start another until that was completed. In the last year, I've become open to having multiple WIPS. When I started the first tablecloth, my eyes needed a break but I still wanted to crochet so I started a second WIP and would switch when my vision blurred. I discovered that I enjoyed having that alternate project and began starting multiple WIPS for different reasons such as a 'Travel WIP' and so on. I do struggle a bit getting overwhelmed with too many WIPS so I find myself needing to keep it to a certain number and with purpose. Small, super easy for travel such as wash clothes, scarves, soap sacks, or pumpkin skins. A tedious lace pattern, a large blanket, and one to two midsized shawl patterns seem to be a good amount and variety for me. The only time I struggled to complete a blanket was when the pattern was challenging enough or I kept making mistakes that had me frogging back, It brought me out of my little zen state of lovely repetition that I enjoy and I'd have to employ my sheer stobourness and determination to reach the end of the project if it became something that wasn't enjoyable. The only advice I have to share is that having a second WIP, especially a super easy one to change over to is a great help. Instead of doggedly forcing yourself to crochet in that frustrated state, take a breath, put it away for now, and change to something that is more in line with where you are mentally for the day instead of creating that negative feeling with the blanket/tedious project. Also, starting the larger or more tedious/concentration needed project with a plan. If you've struggled in the past with those types of projects, try the tactic of committing yourself to one or two hours a week in easily digestible chunks of 30-minute increments of your craft time several times a week, that much larger project or more tedious project will reach completion. If you are a person who prefers to settle down for hours with one project, then commit one day out of the week that you pick up that project for a few hours. Of course, you can be open to picking it up for some extra bonus time during the week, but make sure you do stick to your initial schedule of that being the one day you've set aside a chunk of hours for that project only. Creating a space and routine for projects you do want to make but tend to become difficult to finish can be helpful. It may finish more slowly than all of your other projects but it will get completed. Even thirty minutes once a week will still result in a finished object eventually. If that is what you need to do, then do it. There is something to be said for acceptance. Some people dislike large projects like a blanket. Just the idea of it is distasteful. I think it's great to get to know yourself and learn about yourself through experience and acceptance. Not everyone has to enjoy blankets or patterns that are more complex. Not every knitter has to enjoy sock-making. Not every crocheter has to love blankets. Life is short. Make what you enjoy. On to the next video...

    • @writesewknit
      @writesewknit Před 6 měsíci

      You're right about having an easy project as a change of pace. For a long time I kept to smaller projects because I liked to have them done quickly with the occasional large project mixed in. Now I have a large project and I am trying to work in some small projects. I'm going to start working on wips as a change of pace. There is a thing someone came up with called "finish it February" I plan on doing my own version of it but it will likely last into March or April because I have so many wips and I like taking my time lol.

    Hello WSK1 I love the color green so much. While I catch up with you and your blanket maker, I am getting some time on my blue tablecloth project. I've been attempting to make some changes that give me crochet time in the last two weeks. Besides moving WIPs to FOs, I've had time to start and finish a shawl that no one's seen yet. Just need to wet-block it and decide on a tassel design. I had a discussion with a friend the other day on fringe and tassels. She loves fringe but dislikes tassels. I agree about it being an accountability partner. I've even considered it for the same reason. Maybe I can gain back some precious crochet time this way. I like the green and while it is a little bulkier weighted than the yellow, it's not overly so. Still looks great.

      @writesewknit Před 7 měsíci

      Sounds good 👍 if you want to make a crochet along series I would recommend making a chart that works for you to keep track of the rows for editing etc. and putting a few seconds at the beginning of the videos that you can cut out with the row number because it can get really confusing what row the footage is in editing.

  • @LlamasInPajamas13
    @LlamasInPajamas13 Před 7 měsíci

    Good job catching that before you got too far along in your striping. The green is different, but like you said in another video, it still works as it's the same tone and color family. Well, that's my sum up of it anyhow. I am a huge fan of sage greens. I'd even go as far as to say sage is my favorite of the greens, with a super dark green falling in at second, and third would be going toward the teal area. I got a whoopsie doodle! Instant smile. Take care, WSK!💜

  • @LlamasInPajamas13
    @LlamasInPajamas13 Před 8 měsíci

    Whoopsie Doodle! I love that. Even after 30 years I still plan to make projects where I'd change colors every row or two rows. I haven't met a single crocheter or knitter who loves to weave ends, but it is something we must accept. Sometimes, yeah, I change my mind and pair down the colors so it's less end weaving, but at the same time, I want the color changes, so I just have to accept that painful part. I have some sock yarn cardigans in my future and I think I'll do different stitches or completely different patterns for each. One that I would like to do is change color every 1 to 3 rows. I am planning a neck to mid-calf/ankle length. Yes... that will be a lot of ends to weave in. I'm not setting that in concrete. When I'm ready to start one of these sock yarn long cardi projects, I will first begin by dividing up all the sock yarn I've been collecting into color families and seeing how much I have and how different the colorways are within those families that my help me decides which pattern I'd like to go for. I might make a prototype in acrylic first to make sure it what design I have in my head will indeed work out physically. Or I'll use a pattern from someone else. Anyhow. I love that green color. It'll be nice to see me build on the next video. Take care WSK! 💜

    I did not hear the yarn squeak, but I am familiar with that squeak in general. Your stitches are lovely and even which shows that you are not a beginner. Even if you were a beginner, each person who crafts, whether it's day one or day 4, 000 of their crafting journey has every reason and right to have a channel. Again, we're referring to a person's reasoning behind why they decide to take the plunge into a channel. An intermediate can still teach and most certainly can share their journey. I am not of the mindset that only experts are allowed to show or teach a craft. I also look at every craft as being a lifelong learning experience. Everyone, even a master should still be learning. There are always new or updated techniques, a new tool, a newly discovered trick, or a new yarn blend that has a different property than others, new or a change in designs. That's the beauty of being a life-long learner in a craft. I used to be a one-WIP person but something happened to me, I just don't know what. I now have a travel project, now that I find myself in doctor's offices way more often than when I was younger. Then I started a project that I needed breaks from for my eyes and after starting a channel there are lots of charity projects going around I wanted to also take part in, even though I need to focus on the one I need breaks from.... so that's how I tall snowballed to having quite a few WIP. So now, I really can relate to that getting out of hand and needing to focus and get one of them completed. This type of video is something I've thought about myself... to use it to help me get some time on a project in dedicated hours while also adding content. Then touching on the question you just asked in conjunction with the last part.... I see two types of these sorts of videos. One is "quietly crafting" which is either the visual of the person crafting and set to low volume, calm music, or no music and no talking, only the normal room/crafting ambiance. I will tell you that I've never seen a lot of viewers for that type. Still, people do make them. The second type is the "Chat and craft" style, The person crafts and chatters to themselves about anything. Craft things, but also about their day or week. It can also include past, present, and future concepts. These videos do much better. It's a good way to put up content that is low edit. It can help you get time on a project while still getting content out. It can be exactly how a 'live' would be minus the extra task of having to keep up with the comments, so it's more manageable and calmer. This style gets way more views because it's a great video to "join someone while crafting" like a crafting buddy.. which is great for people who do not have someone to spend time with while crafting who also crafts. It's more inviting than 'quietly crafting' since there feels like it's more interaction Check out a channel called "It's Raining Yarn". the majority of his channel is this style and he's quite popular. It's fun to sit back and craft with him while he talks about his project, his day, and this cat. If you go to his first videos, he too didn't know what to talk about or thought it was strange to just talk to himself... but he eventually eased into the format and it seems he liked it enough to continue. When I think of myself doing this style, I think it would be a great way to give myself crochet time because that is something that I've nearly lost all of since starting a channel, and it would give some content that was easier to edit for Mr. Pajamas, especially since he's so busy and we struggle to get one video a week sometimes, so maybe we could reach our goal of 2 videos if I did this type of content also. It might be a 2 birds, 1 stone situation. The only drawback is.... what do I talk about? Will I run out of stuff? just a series of those questions trail through my mind. Quietly crafting would be the easier choice... but a much less popular option. Plus, I know I too prefer the friendlier listening to a person chatter while crafting along with them. I like the craft buddy thing and would like to give others a crafting buddy. As long as you maintain your off-limits topics or keep certain criteria vague for some privacy, it's really what you make it to be. All caught up. Take care, WSK!

      It is good feedback about the quiet crafting because I made videos ahead of time and scheduled them already etc and sometimes I just left them quiet... I guess those particular ones won't be watched as much. Oh well, it will be a live and learn thing.

      @@writesewknit There's nothing wrong with trying out both and seeing if one is more attractive than the other. Another friend who started right around the same time is struggling to figure out what content they want to do. The advice I gave is to try all of it and see what you enjoyed just as much as what content gave you a better response. Just because a certain type of content performs better does not mean that content makes you happy. Again, we're right back at square one, why did you make a channel and what do you want to get out of it? If you are trying to gain popularity or just enjoy making content... the answers may differ. I say try it all out and you'll find your answer somewhere in there.

      It's ok I made quite a few videos ahead of time and wasn't sure if the quiet ones would be popular but I found myself not doing rows because I didn't know what to talk about. I came to the conclusion that I would talk every second video. This won't be happening for a while though so I'm kind of getting ahead of myself.

    Yes, Happy Halloween. I love Halloween. It's pretty much the one holiday I do enjoy. Really, it feels like a semi-holiday with none of the stress, participation is extremely optional, you get to give and it makes people happy, the environment is cheerful, and the weather is generally nice and cool. I can't find a single thing that is dislikeable about Halloween. YT can be a side hustle, but that isn't necessarily everyone's goal. It could be to educate or help others, or to keep a 'thing' alive, such as a dying language or art, it can be to take part in the community to meet others who also do the same thing, It can be to document your own journey in whatever topic your channel is featuring, to become a 'star' or find popularity, as a way to advertise your business or product, turn your dream into a reality by crowdfunding something you're interested in....or any combination of these things too. I'm sure many people started for one reason and as they went along they added or changed their reasons or goals. It really can be a wonderful tool for learning and connecting people from around the world who enjoy that same thing. I would love to have such a thing available as a teenager just for the education portion alone. I've only recently heard of the 'sweater curse' and I think it's so funny how even in fiber crafts there seems to be such things as curses and drama. I guess where people are, superstitions and drama follow. Haha! On to the next row!

    I thought that your plaid cover was a comforter and not a tablecloth this entire time. So, you can see why the mug of coffee would have given me wide eyes when I clicked on this video. LOL, I was fooled! Yes, your blanket is turning out nice. "Whoopsie Doodle" is not an expression I've heard before. "Whoopie Daisy" is the expression that is common to me. On to the next row!

    I've already answered the first question in the last video, but the second one...Yes, I dislike weaving in ends and it takes forever. I don't think I've ever heard of a single crochet/knitter saying they liked end weaving. I think we just accept that to enjoy all the other parts, we need to do the end weaving too. Nobody starts out with a big audience. Your channel just happened to come across my feed and I like the color of the yarn I've never heard of your channel so I clicked. I'm also a pretty curious person so... I also enjoy crocheting along with someone, especially if they talk about random stuff and it's not only silent. On to the next row!

  • @LlamasInPajamas13
    @LlamasInPajamas13 Před 8 měsíci

    Interesting that you use another hook to weave than a tapestry needle and that you choose to wrap it around the row, then crochet over it, instead of just holding the loose yarn and crocheting over it. I have never used a FO without weaving in the ends. I have put it to the side for a long time to avoid weaving in ends... but eventually, you have to talk yourself into it. Choosing to weave in as I go or wait until the end, depends on the project. Sometimes I like to sorta do what you're doing and weave in so I can crochet over it easier... sometimes that isn't necessary and I weave after. On to the next row!

    What did you dislike about the project that you are doing? I love the stretch breaks. My hands need it working with bulky yarn and all of the medical issues. I also use the pen hold, and in the past few years, crocheting with weight 4 and over has started to make my hands hurt after a short period. Three and under, no problem. It's strange. It could just be age plus medical issues, or it could be the fact that I don't use 4-weight yarn or over enough so my muscles have become unused to it. For a long while I even used a lot of three-weight yarn or light 4 weights that may as well be threes. Who knows either way. Love the stretch break. I'm using that and typing to give my hands a break.

    That afternoon tea color is gorgeous. I have some serious regrets that I didn't purchase any while I could. I just switched to a blanket my husband requested from me. It should be a pretty quick make since he wanted it in bulky yarn with a very loose granny-style design and a very specific non-traditional shape. I found a video tutorial on The Crochet Crowd that was not quite a traditional granny blanket (a basic granny square that just kept growing into a blanket size) This is a 'modern' style that keeps the granny (3 DC into the same CH space) on top of one another as a 1-row repeat would traditionally be used. Instead, it's a 2-row repeat and the second row is a scaffold row so when you are on the granny row, you are using the CH spaces of the scaffold and your granny builds on top of each other. I hope that made sense. I am also weaving in ends with each yarn cut as it seems like the way to go with this style of blanket. On to the next row!

    Hello! I'm back, catching up from where I left off, and getting caught up with your stash-buster project while I try to get some time on my third pumpkin skin. To answer your question, even though I know I could crochet from the project by 'on-the-fly- frogging style, I still chose to create the cake while feeding it onto a winder and frog it with that method. Why? no idea. I guess I'm just all about the extra unnecessary steps. LOL That is a good tip about putting some distance between the colors that do not necessarily look good next to each other. On to the next row!

    Hello! I just found your channel as it randomly came across my feed and the colors of your blanket drew me in. The colors are absolutely stunning. One of the best color combinations I've seen. I'm not going to lie, I'm going to have to find some similar colors and make a blanket or cardi or something. Oh, you showed the yarn. Afternoon tea, I remember hearing that yarn name because I'm a huge fan of tea, but I've never seen it before. I just checked Google for it, yep, that's a discontinued cake. I'll have to find some semi-tonal sock yarn and match the colors for a project. It'll be a fun scavenger hunt for just the right yarns. These are really lovely color pairings. It's too bad I couldn't find at least 1 cake to use as a reference for comparison and reminder. Oh well. I'll save your video in my inspiration folder and refer back to it. Just a little side comment on your other videos: How sweet to make videos teaching cursive. It's become a lost skill, so I appreciate attempts to keep a reference and teaching of such things available to anyone interested. We are both 'pen' style holders for crochet and used Boye hooks until I found my perfect 'ergonomic' hook to help with arthritis and joint damage from having hypermobility and fibromyalgia. I stop and stretch with the same ones you did. I also hold my thumb tip to my fingertips and rotate my wrists in circles. Then change the direction. Then draw figure eight. Both the ones you performed and the wrist rotations helped me a lot. You are correct, prevention is worth it, as is stopping to do the things that help you continue to enjoy something you love. I've enjoyed listening and watching. You have a lovely voice and calm energy. I'll check back from time to time to see how your blanket is coming along, what colors you've added, and what else you add to your channel Take care.
