13 Reasons Your Car Loses Power Due To Misfire When Accelerating (Don't IGNORE!)
When your car loses power while driving or accelerating, it can be incredibly frustrating. In this in-depth video, I'll explain the 13 most common causes of car acceleration problems so you can get your vehicle running smoothly again.
Here are the key troubleshooting steps to fix sluggish car acceleration:
Fuel system components - Clogged fuel filters, failing fuel pumps, dirty injectors can restrict vital fuel flow under acceleration when the engine needs it most.
Air supply issues - A blocked air filter or intake leaks throws off the air-fuel ratio, undermining combustion.
Ignition system problems - Faulty spark plugs and bad ignition coils prevent proper firing of the cylinders.
Sensor failures - Malfunctioning camshaft, crankshaft, mass airflow (MAF), and oxygen sensors send incorrect data to the engine computer leading to timing issues, reduced power mode, and more.
Exhaust restrictions - Catalytic converter blockage and stuck Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves cause damaging backpressure, choking the engine.
Compression loss - Worn piston rings, leaking head gaskets, faulty valves reduce cylinder compression essential for generating power.
In addition, a PCM reset can help restore lost car acceleration by recalibrating the engine control module. Don't forget to read a detailed guide on troubleshooting car acceleration problems from the link below:

Hi. Can you give me an idea about my problem please. Battry light illuminating all the time but it’s dim. Flickers when load is high and low, like if I turn on AC. Also, rpm goes low at idle and battery light flickering. Recently changed the battery and alternator.
Could be tight serpentine belt. Also look for other components linked to serpentine belt
@@AutocornerdPros I will check. Thanks.
My car is a zuzuki balino, earlier when the car is running it misfires or like knocking when the engine warms up.. then I changed the scam sensor and the oxygen sensor plugs, coil pack 2, ( change o2 s3nser, located in the middle of the silencer).. now when the engine is warm it works fine, but then After starting it in the morning and letting the engine warm up, it misfires or like knocking.,..but when the engine warms up, the misfire stops, it runs without error,...what is the reason for this?
Check engine oil condition

.i have 2014 F250 the battery light is on. The bet is fine. It was burning up alternators on like the 3rd one. I have looked into the problem here in Utube. I was reading the resistance on the two control wires on the alt plug had 2 ohms on a purple and a blue with red strip. I have rewired the three wires in the alt plug. I ŕead 14 V at the battery while it is running. Did a load test on Battery and it is good. I pulled the negative terminal while running and she stayed running so I am charging from the alternator. Still the light is on. Could it be the engine ground wire causing the light to stay on??
You need inspect all ground terminals of your engine.
I had a idle issues engine up and down on parking car on my q30 x traler event when driving engine picks up n low speed. Wat should I check
Idle air control valve and many other things
Wow good video. Most thourogh water pump video I've seen. Just what I was looking for. S
Glad it helped
Thank you
I have this issue on my lexus rx350 …..2016 but no check engine light! Any idea? I changed spark plugs, fuel pump and filter and intake manifold,,,,,,yet nothing the issue persist
Did you check idle air control valve? Are there any trouble codes stored?
@@AutocornerdPros check engine light is not on,,,,i will take it for a scan ,,,,,,,and i will check the Idle air control valve. Thx
my car rpm is automaticaly down when turning steering full plz help
If it is hydraulic steering, check power steering pump
A little late but hope you see this. higher than normal temps and heats up with acceleration, overheats going uphill. It's not leaking but I think the pump can't keep up with the engine to increase flow on acceleration because it is fine at idle but about 10-20 degrees above normal. Any thought are appreciated please.
Check serpentine belt. If it is too tight it may prevent pump to run. I have dedicated video on it. Please check that out
I have a 2016 bmw 640i gran coupe and I’m getting fluctuating rpms at idle, hesitant acceleration, and bad fuel economy, also have a P00Bd code for the Maf sensor. I replaced the maf sensor and the code still is there and same issues. Also replaced air filter. Any help?
Did you check connector of sensor? Also reset ECU after replacing sensor
I have a 2014 ford edge sport 3.7 L i had the water pump replaced at 77,000 km, and now i have roughly idle, more fuel consumption and i have rpm fluxuation the needle jumps up and down when i stop for red lights or in traffic. I hope you can help, thank you.
Any trouble codes?
Had 2 cars (Hyundai Santa Fe) that cut out when stopped at lights etc. Was the Crankshaft sensor on both of them. Replaced them and never had another issue.
So I have the problem on Ford Galaxy 2004y. 2.0 petrol that my rps not stable at idle. For ex. when I turn lights on or condicioner rps go very low or car just cuts off.. I need to start again but when I turn off these rps going up but also not stable is that means IAC valve cloged and I need to clean?
Also check alternator
My Mazda 323 200i having the same problem everytime when I'm stopping it switches off kindly assist
Did you check everything explained in video?
Nice work
Hi. Thanks for a good video.I have changed the altetnator and battery. My alternator went bad in one month. Replaced it again. But the battery light is dim, not fully eliminating. What might he the cause?
Did you check alternator connections, ground terminals? You can read this guide: www.autocornerd.com/car-keeps-killing-alternator/
@@AutocornerdProsYes. I have checked the voltage. Checked the voltage drop. Seems alternator is good, voltage is fine, ground is good.
Attention! Do NOT spray brake cleaner all over your engine, especially when HOT unless you want to create a giant FIRE BALL!
DO NOT use brake cleaner to clean your MAF sensor, there is specific cleaner for that, that doesn't damage it like brake cleaner will. It's called... wait for it... MAF sensor CLEANER!
Thanks for the info
You use to be able to check alternators by pulling the positive side of battery off with car running. If car stalled your alternator was bad but new cars you can’t do that, you will fry electrical components. Do NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER to clean a MAF sensor! Most misfires are bad or arcing coil packs. Some new vehicles, when your battery dies it throws codes you can’t reset without the Stealership.
Did I say something wrong? I know we should always disconnect negative terminal first. And when reconnecting battery, always connect positive terminal first
Do not use brake cleaner on your maf sensor, use Maf sensor cleaner or ipa only.
Thanks for information. That’s strange because I have heard from some people and they use same cleaner for sensor and throttle body.
@@AutocornerdProsusually the throttle body cleaner says to spray after the MAF sensor
@@AutocornerdPros Brake cleaner should not be used on electronics at all...ever!!
Thanks! That was a nice video. Was expecting some AI generated BS but instead got an informative educational piece.
Thank you so much. I read half of your comment first and I got instantly demotivated 😅. Glad I read complete comment.
Bmw 530d with asr390 or GM540LE, 342000km flushed every 60.000km. Only at +/- 90km/h , rpm 1600 in 5th gear when y accelerate its go to 2000rpm, sort of vibration and rpm go back to 1600, At same speed in S mode at 90km/h the rpm is at 2200 , there no problem, speed 1,2,3,4 no problem, no default codes, so y have 3 options, Torque converter (why only 5th gear) 5th gear solenoid Cluch disc 😔 If you have any clue ? Thank you
Checking solenoid is the easiest to check. So first see this. Check both shift solenoid and TCC solenoid’s
My car is boiling in water bottle and change thermostat and the is a noise sound from water pump pulley..can it be the one causing overheating
Renault clio 4
Yes water pump could get stuck
I had this problem with Pajero 2006 low rpm in idle and cant find the solution i replaced the throttle and the map sensor and checked the injection some times the car goes off becuse the rpm goes down when i try to stopped and when i make the car on its work good
Can this be why my dodge ram 1500 has a hard time to start? I have to try n turn it over bout 3 times before it starts. N sometimes i can smell fuel when im tryin to start it
Not necessarily. Could be other factors like faulty or leaking fuel injectors or bad MAF sensor
Thank you for replying, the blades on the water pump were all broken. Changed the w. Pump problems sorted.
My car idle change and the speed decreases after 5 miles of driving although my foot on the pedal no one figured out the problem so I have to sell it as junk 😢😢
Oh. Sorry to hear that
Videos showing "acceleration" display someone slamming on the brakes lmao
Oops. Need to ask editor
On 2003 toyota sedan, new heat temp sensor, new tempostat, bled the system. Car radiator fan comes on and stays on. Head guage goes up but then when switch off and start again it goes to half. The is no water returning to the radiator from the engine, and then steams up. Could this be the water pump
Yes it could be. You also need to check serpentine belt.
Thanks ❤
Mine are welded in with rust. Please can you tell me if its OK to run with them unplugged, just for diagnostics to see if that can help determine if they even need replaced. I am getting sensor codes but can't tell if its bad sensors or wiring P0158 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Bank 2 Sensor 2 P0300 Multiple Random Misfire P0152 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Bank 2 Sensor 1 P0157 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Bank 2 Sensor 2
Difficult to tell. Since you said sensor has rust, so chances are that it could be bad. To test connector, measure voltage across its pins
Ok I don't have a code reader and have run into an issue with my 2011 camry. The first start up in the morning is great. The engine cranks right up. After I have driven it for a few miles 10, 20 or 30 and let it sit for a moment it cranks, cranks and cranks then eventually starts up. I recently put in a new battery and replaced the air filter. Any suggestions where to go next? I've been told the fuel pump, but the car idles and runs great other than the start up on a warm engine.
Fuel pump, filter or fuel injector. They could be problem
@@AutocornerdPros Ok thanks for your help in helping me diagnose my car issue. I went ahead and replaced the fuel pump and everything seems to be working great. Around $400 because I couldn't find the exact replacement for my car anywhere else, but that's ok as long as it works.
Glad it fixed for you
Can a bad 02 sensor makes makes engine rattle when accelerating?
Yes they do but could be other factors as well
My jettar 4 has prblem when you exhilarated just cut off
My Mazda 3 2014 have an idle issue where by the car idle fine at start but minutes later when I started to drive I would notice the rpm be at 700 and start to fluctuate low as 500 rpm the only way to keep it up is by turning on AC … what would be the issues there? Any advice or help would be great
Any trouble code?
The same problem with my pajero 2006 and when i check doesn't appear any code
