Lego Propellers in Water (worst to best)
22 Lego propellers are tested in a water-filled container. Which one provides the most thrust? Enjoy!
2 non-Lego propellers are also tested for comparison.
Test method: a Lego Buggy motor (5292c01) and 7V input voltage. A weight scale measures the thrust in grams. Multiple gear ratios (from 1:25 to 5:1) and both directions of rotation are tested for each propeller. The test bench is explained in detail starting at 1:46.
Note: the list of gear ratios shown from 3:22 to 3:50 are incorrectly presented as inverse ratios. Sorry about that.
The results can be read in my blog:

If you want to fix the issue with the string, consider using a pulley mounted on an arm that allows the string to remain under enough tension to not get caught. Should only minimally affect firing velocity if tuned correctly. Alternatively, some sort of block and tackle may be possible, though I think it would be less efficient and more hassle.
I’m stumped on reducing the reload time, though, unless you find a way to simply mount two guns and reload one while firing the other 🤷🏼♂️
Cost of full build? The cam seems to be the most expensive part.
Can you rotate it reverse ?
a Useless Machine is a machine that turns off itself
Just a tip, don't press down on the digital scale as they're super sensitive and meant to measure by the grams not by the tens of kg's you're pressing down. You will bend and damage the internal components and has all sorts of problems such as not reading the weight correctly.
