How to tell if you MIGHT have a LISFRANC INJURY?
This video explains what signs your foot may show if you have suffered a Lisfranc injury. We also outline the mechanism of injury and main areas of pain. Lisfranc injuries can result in ongoing pain in up to 60% of cases and are missed in at least 20% of presentations. They are a major cause of ongoing pain in the foot following injury and if the injury is missed you may be at a higher risk of osteoarthritis to the foot or arch collapse.

Subtalar Fusion vs Ankle Fusion: Are They The Same?
I just love how these doctors say that ankle fusion surgery is not a big deal. It is in fact a very big deal. It’s a long painful and difficult process and recovery. There’s a possibility that your ankle may not fuse as happened to me. After seeing 8 different surgeons and one being honest enough to admit he wouldn’t do them because there to difficult to do and recovery far to long. So now I’m facing a 2nd surgery. And all I’m hoping for is less pain. I don’t anticipate I will walk any better. Some people think these doctors are God. I don’t. Especially since I got a drop foot from a minimally invasive surgery to decompress a nerve. After they do their damage it’s all on you to figure out. So do your due diligence because they all think they’re a wonder doctor till they’re not.
i am only 22 needing this surgery on my right foot. I have 2 options to either risk straightening my big toe without fusion, but my join could be destroyed due to blood loss.....or i just fuse it immediately. Very hard choice :( i don't want to lose my mobility at such young age
hi buddy!i had lisfranc left leg displacement of bone divisions on july 22nd!i had surgery on august 2nd putting titanium in!it's been three weeks since surgery and i still have pain and numbness down my leg!is this normal?how long did it last for you? the pains after surgery?
Fusion surgery...the best decision I made. For most people, the surgery will be inevitable, as the arthritic condition of the joint continues to deteriorate with time. Just ensure you have the very best surgeon for the job.
Thank you - you are amazing! Such easy to understand explanations. I have had pain for over 12 months and the surgery in in Oct 2023 totally overlooked the spur on the tibia. It was just done by a different (better) surgeon in Aug 2024 and I'm expecting relief.
Hey! I’m having an zadek osteotomy on my right foot in a few weeks. I’ve also had the other procedure on my left foot after rupturing my Achilles 5 years ago.
The music is too loud and makes it hard to hear what you’re saying ☹️
I got ts. Hurts so damn bad
The music is drowning out info.
My concern is longer term complications. Could surgery of this nature will effect movement patterns and potentially cause problems elsewhere such as knees, hips and back. The studies presented are only a short term response. I have big toe arthritis and am very worried about this.
I really don’t understand what sports you can play if you can’t run
swimming, walking long distances, cycling, static volleyball ( 6 players only), fitness...you got enough
You may add volleyball as sport but with no jump. I can play above average in a team of young players. Even I may throw at the basketball hoop, again with no jump and even play in a team. I confirm cycling and swimming with no limits. I do on daily basis 15 minutes of elliptical bike, it is best for fused ankles, at least 6 months since surgery. I have both ankles fused, one is 2 years old and strong the other only 1 year since opperation.
Thanks for the information. I throw the discus, after ankle surgery would I be able to continue throwing?
do ankle spurs always grow back? are you able to prevent them from growing back?
Music: terrible, info: A+
What would cause this type of injury ?
Good day! Thank you so much for your videos! You are doing a great job! I have a question for you, if possible. I had an arthrodesis of the right ankle joint 2 months ago. How long does it usually take to stand up? When can you drive a car? Thank you!
Who’s trying to wait 5yrs to get back to playing ball, I just end it all before I wait for my Achilles to heal
Wtf with the hand??? So distracting
i had an ankle fusion almost 3 years ago i was doing great but these pst few months i can barely stand for an hour because it gets swollen and i can barely walk i feel like a stabbing pain and like something is going to break i havent hurt ankle but after surgery kt was but at least 6 months to now it swells i can not stand for more than 1 hour or i can barely walk i go to the doctor all they say to lift my ankle but its an every day thing
Do daily 15-30min elliptical bike or at least cycling to move the blood around and accelerate healing.
I’m terrified of having this surgery. I need this soon too! I have severe fibromyalgia and I’m afraid my whole body will be messed up. The nerves in my foot will hurt. My doctor now will not increase my medication if needed for nerve pain. Ugh. I’m praying for the best outcome. I do know that the minimally invasive surgery are not for severe cases. Some surgeons won’t do them at all.
Hi Guys, I've had an ankle fusion (April 2023). My CT scan has just come back as a partial fusion, is this normal for a healthy 34yr old male? When should it fully fusion. The pain is probably the worst It's ever been
The more lisfranc injury videos I see, like this one, the better it helps to understand the significance of this joint for foot stability and mobility.
This is by far the best explanation of lisfranc injuries I've come across it really helps me to visually understand my injuries. I have metatarsal fractures AND a chip fracture on the medial cuneiform and it has been over a week since my cast was removed , but I still have pain in the foot and there is a big gap between my 1st and 2nd toe but the doc won't do a follow up CT scan to check the healing of the chip fracture. He only relies on xrays. They also did not mention a ligament tearing.
i just got my walking boot it’s been 8 weeks post op for my full lisfranc tear and i can barely walk with the boot and it hurts so bad to even take a step any tips please?
@@dreams5x208 Your doc is supposed to tell you how much it has healed, how much weight bearing to start with and refer you to a physiotherapist who can help. If he has given you the okay to bear weight on your foot, I would initially use crutches as a support. There are videos on CZcams showing how to do this and gradually taper off crutches.
gross and disturbing commercials. terrible
I think I have this and the comment section has made me feel ill.
No one talks about 25 years after the fusion . I had my left ankle done 1999 and was pretty good until reasonably when the bones in my foot got filled up with bone spars and arthritis’s’.
I have a c fracture but the doctor said no need surgery for my fibula bone.
I’m 30 years old had my fusion done before my 30th birthday I’m almost a year in but let me tell you I’ll always regret this decision I don’t go up or down stairs normal walking sucks wearing any closed shoes are awful as well I’m not sure what everyone else’s experience was like but I promise I will not lie if you can avoid this surgery don’t get it try every remedy before settling for ankle fusion surgery
I’m 31 and just had the surgery 6 months ago! Still in quite a bit of pain, especially when I go from resting to walking. Stairs are tough! I didn’t have another option but this surgery, but I’m sure hoping for a better ankle replacement in the years to come!
@@kayleysea1i'm 32 and had an ankle fusion 10 months ago. It hurts so much to walk just short distances. Even with shoes that have a rocker sole. I did not have any other option but I hate it. I have a really bad limp and that makes my other ankle hurt, as well as my hip and back..
Wow! This is really insightful. Thanks for sharing. My doctor just told me I need a fusion but I had some medical neglect so I’m trying to see what other options I have for my non union surgery that I had. I pray u get some relief.
Hi buddy I’m 5 months since my tt ankle fusion still lots of pain when walking omg I hope you’re still doing well
thanks for honest info
Thank you for the invitation to ask you a question. I tore my Achilles 6 years ago, did a lot of soccer in between, and ruptured it now again (playing soccer). I got the info that the two ends of the rapture can't grow together very well because of the scar tissue of the first rapture (6 years ago)? Is that true.
Thanks for info
Play sports my entire life. Ruptured my achilles 5 weeks ago, playing in a basketball league. First injury I have ever had. I am 38 years old. However, I am not a professional athlete. Although I am very active in sports, I decided to NOT go the surgery route. Having a little less "explosion" or athleticism at my age and level is not that big of a deal. It still sucks knowing that it will not be worth me ever playing competitive basketball again. My passion and main sport for 30+ years. But, I will still stay active and hopefully recover mentally!
I feel u it just happened to me Sunday and I still have so much love for the game
How you healing? I'm week 1 in, it's rough man.
How are you now? Have you tried to play basketball once again? I am in week 5 for the achilles tendon rapture and didnt go for the surgery. I wanna know if there is someone who can still play basketball normally without having any surgery
Sir, weber-A explained very well. But how many days will it take to recover tell me
Thank you for the great info , what is the success rate of ankle fusions here in Australia <

Good video mate
Very interested in anyone who does yoga with this condition as I’m suffering terribly. Can’t wear protective footwear in yoga and a lot of bending the toe in lunges, planks etc.
I had a football injury where a stud penetrated my boot and left a hole in my foot. Doctors said it was shattered metatarsals of the 5th and Lis Franc. Had a ORIF. Took about 16 weeks to get fully weight bearing. About 8 months later I was playing again. It was a bit numb with pins and needles at the start but now I have 0 issues with it, no pain, no discomfort. Practically back to normal and full mobility.
i just got my walking boot it’s been 8 weeks post op and i can barely walk with the boot and it hurts so bad to even take a step any tips please?
I have this injury back in 2019. Now I’m after 4 surgery FOOT RECONSTRUCTION. My injury was mis diagnosed for 2 months. Witch comes to big trouble
My issues with my ankle started when I was 15 with like in gym I just started limping one day. People would ask me why do you limp 1 hr to the next & I couldn't answer it. Played football in hs & collegiatally so for 8 yrs I learned to live with it via torendol. Had surgery at 22 fixed for 10yrs but now im 50 & have struggled with pain for last 5yrs with electing to not take pills.. 2 kids in college so I can't afford surgery please advise..
What about Dancing. What about having both Done? I was dance and doing lots. But after a very bad RTA. It lift me in with Doctors wishing you fusion of both.. I feel it should be replacements..
I just want no pain. Its constant. Whether Im walking or have my foot raised at any angle. I honestly thought Id broken my foot a few weeks ago. The shooting pain was horrid. This prompted me to go to the doctor who sent me for an xray. This showed I have quite advanced osteoarthritis and will by pass all the easier options and go straight to surgery. I do have a high pain threshold, but I will be glad to have little to no pain soon. Obviously Im prepared for the initial post op pain.
Play golf?
I ruptured my achilles tendon and was told by the hospital it was a sprain and was given a course of naproxen and was told I should recover within a week. I went back to the hospital two and half weeks later and had an ultrasound that confirmed the rupture. I'm currently recovering and currently at the 7week mark non surgical. My last physio appointment my foot gave a positive reaction after the pinch/Thompson test, but I'm still concerned as I still have a dip in my tendon.
good info. However, I wanted to view the foot xray without any marks directly on the separation...next time. thanks
I have an ankle replacement in April I hope i hope I can still play rec hockey.
That's can help. It's easy to understanding. Thank a lot.
this is not really helpful because you talk about difficulty rather than Pain!! the reason most people do the bone fusion is to get rid of pain...like me. im hoping my surgery will let me get back out there to play beach volleyball pain free. I dont care if its more difficult. Ill keep you posted, had surgery a month ago and already feel so much better.
As much as I'd love to return to Football (Soccer) for fun I don't feel like I can risk a re-rupture. I've only just begun to return to the gym. I've had so many injuries from fractured bones to hernias and a bunch in between but this injury was the worst recovery for me, mentally as well as physically. I'm glad that so many are returning to sport and it does feel like a lot of progress has been made in terms of recovery from an Achilles Tendon Rupture. I'd be intrigued as to what ages those in the study were.
how much time it takes so i can play football again
@@HOMAX_ I think it depends on the level you were playing at and your age. Have you recently ruptured your tendon? Follow the advice of leg raises to do your best to minimize the calf muscle wasting away. Unfortunately it still needs a lot of work to catch up with your healthy leg. I'm 9 months later from this injury and probably could play again but not risking another 4-5 month injury lay off.
Your Video is so well done and amazing but the music is a little loud and makes it difficult to hear you.
