Chatter Fang Budget Competitive (Hundo Plunderer)
This is a $100 deck tech for a competitively slanted, very layered combo deck. Chatterfang is a combo enabler and a removal card in the command zone and layers well with Protean Hulk and a variety of 2 and 3 card combos with enterchangeable A's and B's that uses Chatterfang as the C. Golgari has the least expensive high powered interaction and an array of sub $4 tutors. This deck SLAPS!

For flubs yeah I think manual storm is the way, but how do you win is a bit rough, you could go with a aetherflux but that card tends to be a win more card in my experience playing budget storm lists and can really screw your storm, more on flubs. I think maybe WoW loops could work but you would need Birgi or go for an artifact route and have a couple cost reducers, but at that point you are better playing jhoira. @@Foxist-g8s That’s a great question. I do think Skittish seer is at least fringe cedh playable. I’d have to look at it again but I believe it’s a foodchain outlet. I’ll take a look at it again later on. I’m getting ready for work atm. Foodchain is prob $20 and the extra colors make the mana rough at $100 but.. maybe🤷‍♂️ I’ll look into it. Why doesn’t anyone play Bant? It’s because of win cons. Or lack of win cons. If you mean cedh. It’s too hard to close the game. There isn’t a Bant commander that is like a scepter outlet that kills the table or anything. I think the best Bant commanders we have atm are Derevi and Chullane. Both powerful commanders. Neither can close the game very easily. Derevi is getting some play now that The One Ring exists because it’s ludicrous w the ring. And it got Emeil not so long ago so you can flicker Derevi w Emeil to make infinite mana with gaea’s cradle (2 cards + the commander AND it still needs an outlet 🙄) but that commander is strong enough that it still does make it to some cedh tourneys. Despite the lack of good win cons. Chulane has a bunch of weird combos w Alurren and shrieking drake, maybe Earth craft? It does stuff w Cloudstone curio I think? Not sure. Also a good 3 color deck w a good commander and a hard time actually winning. The short answer; no good win conditions. Green has also gotten a lot worse due to BowMasters (wish they’d ban that card. It’s a scourge in cEdh. Ruined the diversity of the format) and Bant not having red or black is kind of rough. Blue is amazing in cEdh. White is finally getting good. Green doesn’t really give us much other than creature tutors. And they work a lot better when you have dockside lol. That’s why. Imo at least. But go do it! Innovate! Prove the hive mind wrong. The format is FAR from solved. And it’s totally proxy friendly.. even tournies. So price is no matter. Just send me the list. I’ll tell you if I think you’re onto anything 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think it quite makes cedh Najeela. Being a 5 color deck, the bar is extremely high. There are so many combos that work w Najeela that most lists are already not playing (like the 3rd-7th one card combo), most cedh Najeela are leaning into 5 color good stuff and just using a handful of Najeela pieces, and there have just recently been really powerful upgrades. I don’t think there’s space for Baylen in full powered Najeela. That being said, I would love to add Baylen to a budget Najeela. I think most cedh Najeela decks play two combos w Najeela. Maybe Derevi and Grim Hireling. And they play a couple other synergy pieces like Kutzil and Samut. Even the more warrior focused cedh Najeela decks prob won’t play Baylen. They just have a gluttony of options. All that said, if I were building it I’d test Baylen. But the list is so tight it’s hard to say. I think Baylen will make a cool and reasonable (like 2nd tier) cEdh deck. Def a good budget option. If you know cEdh Najeela players testing it I’d love to know though. 🖖

I don’t think I agree with that. It may be semantic but I would counter w two points; 1) Even at the top tier of cedh (like the big invitational that started yesterday) w the best players and the highest stakes we see Tivit (slow control) looking to grind value and set up an extra turns loop with Time Sieve. We see dedicated turbo Adnaus decks looking for a win by turn 3. We see lots of midrange decks like Tymna Kraum looking to develop engines while trying to find a window to thoracle win. We see counters to these grind engines like Magda (doesn’t have to cast spells to win and can win at instant speed) w weird loops. We see Nadu trying to manually storm into a finale of dev win or loops with endurance (most Nadu decks don’t play thoracle. Atraxa tries to flicker the commander or infinitely cast it w foodchain combo. Sissay uses Aminatou and nichol bolas w oath of Teferi to go off. Thrassios and Rograhk look to set up dockside infinite mana loop w cloudstone/Barrin Master Wizard/Temur Sabertooth or go infinite w Hullbreaker horror and a couple mana rocks. Rakdos decks try to go fast like Rog Si but will usually try to win with dual caster twin flame or bolas’s citadel w Senei’s top. I bet there are a couple decks in the 64 entries using isochron scepter dramatic reversal (maybe??), Kinnan looks for big game warping monsters from Kinnan activations until it hopefully assembles Basalt monilith and a way to wash colorless mana into colored mana and win w Kinnan activations. I’m not sure if anyone in that event is doing kiki jiki stuff but I would guess so. Most certainly people are trying to win with Glinthorn bucaneer + Malcom. There’s even a Godo in the field that just wants to cast Godo asap and win w Godo Helm. And there are gonna be decks that look to control the first couple turns before putting underworld breach in play then using LED and brain freeze to mill everyone out. This is all happening and the top tables of major events. Oh, and likely someone is gonna try to use Najeela and either Grim Hireling or Derevi for infinite combats. So the idea that all cedh combos are the same just isn’t the case. There are a lot of different win cons and decks trying to move at different speeds; turbo (turn 2 or 3), midrange (once the turbo decks gas out, control (going even bigger than midrange decks trying to close just before the clock ends the game. 2) even the decks that technically win with the same death strike (say dem con + thoracle) go about it in very different ways. If Atraxa gets foodchain going and draws their deck and finishes by putting thoracle in play that’s not really the same as Rog Si getting to 5 mana, casting adnaus, picking up 25 cards and going for turn 2 thoracke + demonic consultation. Thrassios going infinite mana and drawing the deck to win w finale of devastation doesn’t look, play, or feel the same as Nadu storming thru it’s list till it manually assembles enough creatures and mana to alpha strike w finale of dev. Even dedicated underworld breach decks don’t play the same. Ob Nixilus might use it to find All will be one and a pinger. Some breach lines will use grinding station and a rock to dig thru their deck till they find dual caster twin flame. Krrrk is entered in the event and that deck has win cons that look like casual commander (looping Gray Merchant) but using the fact that phyrexian mana is broken it can do it very fast. You could say “it’s not nearly the variety we gave in casual commander.” And, well, fair enough. CEdh decks have to compete w cedh decks so they either have to be fast enough to jam wins under the inevitable value engines or they have to be able to out grind and go over top the midrange decks or else they need to be able to basically ignore the mystics and rystics and grips of interaction by winning w/out casting spells ala Magda clock/Sissay super friend tutor chains. CEdh is not like Modern. It’s a place to brew. It’s FAR from solved. It’s intricate and dynamic and the most strategically deep way to play mtg that I am aware of. I think if you think cEdh decks are all the same you either don’t have much experience in cEdh or your threshold for what constitutes “enough diversity in win cons” is far beyond my own. If the latter is the case, well, fair enough. Maybe you just need even more creative expression than cedh offers. But if it’s the former then I would highly recommend you give it an honest chance. It bears little resemblance to what I think most casual players think it is. 🖖

Now, a friend of mine built $100 Najeela. And it slaps! But that’s under my LGS rules which is; you don’t include the commander in the $ and the $100 budget comes from Mana Box which will list the lowest priced card available on tcg. For instance if a card is listed at $1 with $4 shipping, that card shows up as $1. The decks end up having budgets that are somewhere around $140-$165 moxfield low. I think I’d steer clear of a 5 color deck for $100. But if we upped the budget to $200 I think it would make a very powerful deck. Dollar per dollar though I think you end up w better decks in 1-3 colors until you get to $500 or so.

Yeah, Grixis Rograhk + Silas is doing the best in tournies at present but it sorta depends on the meta and which players are on what decks. There are good decks in most color combinations. My favorite 3 color cedh deck is the one I have built IRL right now, Temur Pirates. It’s Malcom + Tana. I do really well with it. I also think people who track this kinda thing don’t use the right metrics mostly. I started replying to this last night and I must’ve fallen asleep typing.😂. But, yeah, I think Braids is a powerful card. I think it could make a great commander accept like you said mono black has a hard time closing the game. The reason Krrik can do it is because it’s able to use Uber expensive (in mana) combos and it can play tutors that aren’t good enough in other decks so it can string together intricate multi piece lines. I honestly don’t even know how you would end a game with mono black. Sickening dreams after a peer into the abyss with some way to stop yourself from dying maybe?? Or peer into the abyss w rituals to power out Skirge Familar and finish w a big exanguinate? Idk? Seems tough. As for mono colored commanders on a budget. Mono colored commanders make some of the best budget commanders. IMO it would go like this; White: Heliod Ballista (not amazing but good enough) Blue: Urza (very good on a budget) Black: K’mkk (very good) Red: Magda (prob better than the first three, though Urza is close) Green: Marwyn or Selvala (idk which is better but I think they are both about as fast as a proactive deck can get at $100 but both lack value pieces and interaction to grind into long games (very good) I’ve covered all these but White already. I haven’t done Selvala yet but it’s only because it’s damn near the same deck as Marwyn.

Now you will have to sac one actual artifact to kill the next guy. Now you will have to sac two artifacts to kill the last guy. 3 artifacts🤷‍♂️. You have mana rocks and you just took ten turns in a row. You can’t realistically lose. That assumes you have zero other creatures in play. If you have the ability to attack w multiple creatures you can often take the last two players out at the same time. Even if you just have say Aven mind sensor and Tivit. Hit one of your opponents down to 2 life and one down to 6 or less. Now you only have to sac one real artifact so that skrelves nest may as well be any artifact instead. When people get to the time seive combo in cEdh games we typically don’t even play it out. It’s a waste of time. You can’t give an opponents 7 extra turns and beat that player. This is sorta like the players who insist on running a Thassa’s oracle in their Niv Mizzet deck because “how do I win once I go infinite, draw all the cards I want, kill all but one player, but don’t quite have enough cards in my deck to ping the last guy down? How would you LOSE?” My suggestion would be to just play it out a few times., honestly it won’t take a few times. Play it out one time. No one in that pod is gonna make you do it again. You don’t need to worry about not being able to take enough extra turns to literally make every single player dead dead. @@foxfoxes1225 I think I’m gonna brew up a slightly more $ partner deck (been requested) maybe $200?? Malcom Vial Smasher? Idk.. something partner and not more than 2 colors. I also have a Baylen deck ready to go. I do think Tasigur would be a fun $100 deck to tech. I will get a tech out by Friday then maybe I’ll do the $200 list and maybe Tasigur could be on deck. I just don’t know how much interest there is out there for Tasigur. It’s not very new/shiny and I think it’s gonna end up looking a bit like other decks I’ve done. I’d like to do the eldritch evo/pod neoform stuff but idk how good that would be on a budget? But I’ll get to it

So I built this deck and put Deadeye Navigator in it. I was in a game and there were only 2 opponents left and I tutored for Dead-Eye, partnered with Tivit and promptly found out I only had infinite etb’s and my hold stayed the same. Grrrr

Wait, what? Ok so I don’t know really anything about this stuff. But I pressed the button that said “download at 1080P? Then it downloaded or processed 🤷‍♂️ and it def looks better on my screen than the OG. What’s that mean that “it’s not available in 1080”? Does it look the same to you in both videos?

@@DjinnRummey It’s not easy to form a league. You need to get the lgs owner on board first. Then you need to generate some intestest. Maybe let a group play the 4 decks you will have. If you get good on one or the decks you can also play it in “high power” pods and prob beat them fairly consistently and that could draw attention to how comp you can get at $100. Try to get a small group going and it will grow. See if your lgs would be interested in running a tourney. Commander tournies are hard for lgs’s because they tend to not want proxies and they know any cedh deck will just pub stomp the casual decks. Also players won’t sign up if they don’t have powerful (generally expensive) decks. But the LGS can sorta fix that by putting a budget cap on the decks. That brings casual players and cedh players. Hope you succeed Oh. And turn them on to my channel for deck ideas 😉 #notAplug
