1930s Portable Typewriter Restoration
Our restoration of a Remie Scout Typewriter from the 1930s. These Depression Era portables were sold under many names, such as Monarch, Canadian Pioneer, or simply Pioneer, as seen in our case. But these were all rebranded variations of the well known Remington Typewriter Co. This particular typewriter was sold as a children’s model because of its simplicity, compactness, and lack of additional features e.g. an all-caps typeface and open frame.
From the serial number ‘S16338’ it was made in March of 1932 and was produced in Buffalo, New York per the back panel. Advertising of the time described it as “would be a fine gift for a student” and was originally sold for $19.75
The equivalent of $398.73 today!
To bring it back to its original condition the restoration required disassembly, general cleaning, rust removal with Evaporust, rubber replacements, and lots of polishing!
Thank you, Alan Seaver and Phoenix Typewriter for the great resources that were put together and used for the research in this video.
Thanks for watching!
We hope you enjoy the video! If you have any questions or information regarding this typewriter, feel free to leave a comment, your feedback is always appreciated. Also, be sure to like the video and subscribe for more #restoration videos!

1900s Antique Telephone Restoration
zhlédnutí 713KPřed 2 lety
A restoration of an early 1900s bridging telephone, produced by the Stromberg-Carlson Telephone Mfg. Co. (One of the earliest competitors in the telephone market). This particular style of the phone was often used for communication in rural areas, being described as “The Farmer’s Friend” in marketing campaigns for its extra power and ability to communicate over long lines with many phones. Too bad it only types in ALL CAPS, because that tends to represent SHOUTING AT SOMEBODY!!!! 😖 That is why we want to be able to type in lowercase as well. This is why we were taught to use slashes for italics, underscores for underline, and asterisks for bold-faced when writing texts and emails, so that people don't think you are angry with them.

I've been going through the schematic which is inside the door and checking the wiring and it's all fine one time somebody cut loose the coil which comes from the battery and or the ringer and then after the ringing takes over this thing works from the carbon microphone and the batteries like you say a lot of people never figured out this technology and I think it's cool

Excellent metal work restoration. I have a 1908 Ericsson "Commonwealth" walnut phone with an ear/mic. handpiece. It was used on our sheep & cattle station until about 1960. Your illustrated data shows the "earth return" system which can be used instead of two wires; as the name implies, the ground makes up half the circuit - in our situation this was for one mile distance to the other homestead on the property. Many find this hard to believe since the two batteries only provide 3 volts but the transformer boosts the 'alternating voice current' enough to overcome the resistance of the earth! Regards.

I just purchased two antique Kellogg telephones, one is from 1892, and just arrived! I am wanting to restore it, but it’s in pretty rough shape! I am glad you went into detail on the magneto, as mine is very difficult to turn, I also think from looking it over it’s had some clumsy repair work in the past! The wiring looks rough, but your video gave me confidence!

&&&& TIME HAS RUN OUT !! John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Don't ignore this message !! REPENT NOW !! God the Son - JESUS came in the flesh to die for sinners. TRUST that God raised JESUS from the dead !! By FAITH accept JESUS's blood alone as payment for your sins unto Salvation, to escape what's about to happen !! Don't say you were not warned !! ONLY true believers in JESUS will be suddenly taken. THEN comes 7 horrific years of God's JUDGEMENT, poured out on the world. I pray that the LORD will open your eyes and heart to the GOSPEL.

Very impressive restoration. I have done several, neither as in depth as yours. I removed all components and polished then clear coated everything plated and repainted what was black. Then refinished the wood and reassembled. While my restorations looked beautiful, sadly I lost the ring. On one phone I was very pleased to see the internal part of the ear piece date stamped 1909. Very labor intensive job restoring one of these phones, definitely a labor of love, but worth it if you love them!
