two great tunes for a ceilidh. This Galanti accordion I restored really helps my playing. "Camptown Races" was written and composed by Stephen Foster in 1850, published in Foster's Plantation Melodies

Despite the French sounding title, I believe this to be a Scottish tune for a dance of the same name. The 80 bass Galanti accordion was revalved and tuned by me (Accordions South West) real fun and easy to play instrument.

This is a 48-bar jig in an Irish style at the kind of speed I play for ceilidhs. The accordion is a 1930's maybe 40's Frontallini which I've restored. Actually only part restored as I omitted to revalve and tune the bottom octave bass and the 16' reeds on the grounds that the extra work would not make the instrument much better, but would make it more expensive. This waltz is from the Suite for Jazz Orchestra, composed by Dmitri Shostakovich in 1938. Stanley Kubrick used it in his film, Eyes Wide Shut (1999). The accordion is a Scandalli Scott-Wood Special dating from the 1950's. I learned this tune from the Society for International Folk Dance many years ago. They used to meet every month at Cecil Sharp house and have a good variety of dance tunes to learn which helped me enormously in my early days of accordion playing. This is an English dance tune popular amongst melodeon players, however this Luigi Fratellini accordion makes a similar sound and the simple bass system forces me to play just basic chords - nothing wrong with that of course. The absolute beauty of your mum berating your improvising via the medium of improvised lyrics... A perfect performance all round.
As an amateur accordionist, I have watched your videos for a long time. This tune was the first tune I learnt to play ! Nowhere near as elaborate as your version course ! Its very reminiscent of one of the many old songs I used to sing in the East End when we lived there . We used to drink in the pubs and also sing in there at times, MY YIDDISH A MUMMA was the favorite. The late lamented Sophie Tuckers biggest hit. The old Girls would shed tears at the beautiful words( or was it my singing) as I belted the number out. It had the same melancholic feel. Your beloved Mum looked a beautiful Lady. Thank you for sharing that video and stimulating good memories.

Hi the reeds were tuned 443 and 447 ie 16 cents difference mid keyboard. I increase the difference lower notes and decrease going up

can you play this piece on any accordion, or just some types of accordion? i want to learn the accordion and this is my favourite piece so i'd like to know what accordion i should try to get
you'll need a 60 or 72 bass as a minimum to play it in this key. It's not exactly a beginners piece, so even if you're a pianist you may want to tackle some other pieces first. Try my patreon site for graded pieces which will lead to your goal patreon.com/Accordion_Lovers

It's a lot of work, even a simple one like this has about 200 reeds, valves to replace and tune. But more often than not, very satisfying to give them a few more decades of life before the dreaded trip to the skip. . . .
