    This is a great video and will be very helpful for me when I add a loft to my shed this summer. Question: the video showed you putting the 1/2" plywood on top (two pieces). And then it showed you laying another 1/2" plywood on top of them. Is that what you did - put two 1/2" layers on top of each other? It was the only part of the video I wasn't sure of. Thanks. 👍

      Thank you and I wish you the best with your project. I only put one layer of 1/2" plywood on the top for the shelf. I had to use two pieces because my loft is 12' wide. One 8' sheet and one 4' sheet to cover the entire loft with one layer of 1/2" plywood.

    With my kit i also got the green fuel lines but a friend told me they were no good and gave me a pair of white ones. I installed it exactly like yours, with the black tubes and clamps. Worked well for a few months but then it started leaking from the point where the tube enters the gas tank. Tightening or loosening the bolts doesn’t work. So maybe you wanna check that!

    The thing people need to learn before doing a dry pour is that a lot of people online don't know the difference between Concrete, Mortar and Cement and they make videos not realizing they are calling Cement Concrete or Mortar Concrete or they just think they are all the same thing and call them all Concrete. Those other videos here on CZcams where they get a smooth dry pour might be using Concrete (which has gravel) as a base underneath but then they use Cement (just powder) or Mortar (powder and sand mix) on top to help keep it smooth on top and free from gravel. Cement is the powder with nothing mixed in. Mortar is a mix of Cement and Sand (used for brick laying etc). Concrete is a mix of Cement, Gravel/Rock to provide strength and then sometimes Fibers mixed in for even more strength. The point is, they likely use Cement or Mortar on top to make the top smooth... or they used just Cement or Mortar by itself, which would be the wrong way to dry pour an entire slab.

    Older Raco, Mulberry, and Steel City covers are not drilled at the top and bottom, only at the middle. I always drill them out with a 9/64" drill bit for 6-32 screws and flange nuts like the newer ones. It takes a bit of work but prevents the receptacles from possibly breaking when inserting a plug because they were not properly supported. I also use the broken out plaster ears from the receptacles as a source for free #6 flat washers. On the last one of these that I wired up I looped the black and white wires around the screws on the first receptacle and terminated them on the second one. I am not happy with Raco as the company has moved current production to China.

    I like your choice of box with the screw attachments from the inside, rather than the standard old work box. I think the standard old work boxes are ok for switches, but not so much for receptacles. Then again, a little extra mounting strength can't hurt, as you're using switches. FYI, it doesn't matter which wire goes to which screw on single pole switches, regardless of whether they are paddle type or toggle switches. You did a very good job.

    DIYHP, thank you for the two videos on the Yeswelder LYG M800H helmet! I'm a rookie welder - 40 years after stick welding classes in jr high, now, armed with a Hobart MiG welder (& no MiG skills). I'm in need of a welding helmet and this model looks like a decent helmet for my needs. I have three questions, if I could - did you find that it was your filming lighting that was partially or fully the problem with the flashing you were experiencing? Would you buy this same model now after three years? Is there another model you'd recommend over the LYG M800H? Thanks so much for your kind help and advice!

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
      @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Před 8 dny

      You are quite welcome. I have not been able to pin point the actual problem I had with this hood. I did determine that the hood works much better with the "flashing" issue if the sensitivity is turned all the way up. I have also determined that I have only had the flashing issue when TIG welding at low amperage (100 amps or less). I have not had any issues with flashing when stick or MIG welding with this hood. Yes, I would buy this hood again, I believe it is a pretty good hood for the money. If you are using it with MIG or MMA you may not ever experience an issue like I have. Since I made those videos I have used several YW welding hood models and I would recommend any of them. They may not be perfect but I feel they are a good value for the money. I really like the YW "True Color" screens that are used in all the YW welding hoods. I wish you the best with your welding ventures and thanks for stopping by!

    Being older & of diminishing visual acuity (I.E crap eyesight for close up stuff like welding) I'm real fond of masks that give a very clear view. I.M.O - and it's only an opinion, it's not carved in stone - you'd buy a lot of far more rubbish (waay far more) than to get yourself a Zelcan welding mask. They are, ahem, cheap.. However, I have had Speedglass masks that were crapper - a lot crapper - plus probably 20 or 30 other brand masks that were far far crapper - mainly as the Zelcan brand masks are excellent. They're as close to not wearing a mask as you can get while wearing a mask, I.M.O. The view out is superb. They are also suspiciously similar to the Yeswelder mask.. but cheaper.. A cynic might think the same factory produced them.. I used have to shine a light for every weld - however, with the Zelcan lid, I don't have to unless I'm welding in the deep dark corners - which has reduced cursing at crappy, unstable, awkward lights by about 80% in the workshop.

    Being as thin as it is, at least it will be easy to remove if you decide to remove it. On the other hand, my concern with a slab that thin is that there should be more control joints because such a thin slab is more prone to cracking. That said, there is nothing wrong with experimenting and learning from experience when it's something that belongs to you.

      I agree, the chain method is too pricey IMO. I felt that the conduit was the most economical option and I’m pleased with the look and strength.

    This is just what we need. Going to attempt a smaller version this week, but it will have quarry tiles on top eventually. Your job looks pretty good to me though!
