Thanks! Did you get a recording of last night when they did the recap of everything leading up to the takeover of Hamilton renamed Hind Hall through the 30th?

So just to get this straight: Columbia for years and years celebrated its rich tradition of protest, and even mythologized the 1968 takeover of Hamilton hall to make itself look cool to Ivy League applicants (who might be over-achievers but want to go to a cool protest-friendly school with lots of political activity!) Students protesting the bombardment of Gaza camped out in one of the main yards on Columbia's campus. Many of them celebrated Passover. The President of the University got called in front of Congress and accused of aiding and abetting threats of violence and "antisemitism" on her campus. Trustees complained. Columbia (aka Rich Tradition of Protest) University told the (peaceful) students to disperse. They refused. Professors offer to mediate with the students and de-escalate the situation. Administration refuses. Columbia calls in the NYPD in the name of student safety. NYPD proceeds to barricade students out of their dorms, spray them with pepper spray, tase them, tackle them, knock them out, etc. This also entailed students who recreated the takeover of Hamilton hall getting the shit beat out of them. And journalism students, who the university is supposed to be teaching how to be fearless journalists, who are being told "democracy dies in darkness!", are barricaded inside the Pulitzer building (lol) and told NOT to practice journalism or get arrested. I think everyone is full of shit here except for the students and professors themselves. Good on WKCR for reporting critically and putting those journalism skills to good use!!!

Where can we find the Columbia faculty statement from the night of April 30th?

The terrifying irony that these journalists were forced to shelter in the Pulitzer Center or face arrest chills me to my core. An institution that invites the cops to come attack its own students and lock the press away in a building where they won’t see the atrocities doesn’t deserve to host the Pulitzer Prize ceremony.

Mia Mingus is presenting a reading at my community college next week. I am a Disabled Student with both Neurological and Psychiatric conditions. I respectfully disagree about the "privilege" community. i don't like othering humans. my way from my experiences of ableism from everyone, has showed me that every ableist is still human. those that hurt, are in pain themselves. The beautiful heuristic value from Disabled Individuals may lead world peace. The reason, where ever you go, no matter the race, religion, class, any intersectionality community, you will find Disabled Individuals. We are everywhere. If every intersectionality realized the commonality of humans, all humans - even those that hurt us, we may unite as a human specie. UPSTATE NY -COUPLE HOURS FROM CANADA- YELLOW TINTED SNOW THAT MELTS INTO A RAINBOW OIL SLICK LOOKING SUBSTANCE. THE WEEK OR SO AFTER THE TRAIN DERAILMENT I WAS OUT PLAYING WITH MY HUSBAND, 3 KIDS & 2 DOGS. 6-8 HOURS LATER EVERY LAST ONE OF US WAS POISONED. PUKING & DIARREAH BOTH GREEN - SEIZURES - FEVER - CHILLS - COULDNT SWALLOW THROAT WAS CLOSED UP. KIDNEYS HURT SO BAD. EYES COULD NOT ADJUST - BRAIN COULD NOT COMPREHEND ,COULDNT EAT FOR 4 DAYS. SYMPTOMS LASTED OVER 2 WEEKS. EVEN OUR DOGS WERE POISONED SAME SYMPTOMS. DO NOT MESS WITH THE SNOW! I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. I HAVE SOME MELTED SNOW IVE COLLECTED TO BE TESTED. PLEASE KEEP YOUR KIDS & PETS OUT OF THE SNOW!
