I saw Mr Vickrey's paintings a few times at Tree's Place, a gallery in Orleans, Massachusetts on the Cape. I remember few specific paintings I have seen there, but I DO remember Vickery's. They were wonderful to see in person and beautifully memorable.

This is an historical treasure. Thank you so much for posting! So much info for everyone to know. Used to stay every summer on Town Cove in Eastham with my grandparents, Lilly & Larry O'Brien starting in 1963. Larry would take me along to Mac Reeds. We loved that place, the tips we could eavesdrop on, and the people we met there. Would sleep in my clothes ready to rise from Papa's tap on the shoulder...time to Fish!!!

As a fellow professional artist/fashion illustrator and painter I find his work fascinating and interesting to watch. As I was growing up and spending summers on the Cape, Robert Vickery had been our neighbor until another family bought his bungelow house. Since I was just in my teens at the time, all I remember were his blonde towhead kids outside playing around their house and decorating their split rail fence with tin foil! lol Thanks for sharing more of his work here as well, a fine artist indeed with a very unique style. I watched the film on his website and was amazed that he was able to meet those Time magazine deadline covers overnight! I also had to learn to illustrate quickly as a fashion illustrator in NYC as well and they used to time us in fashion sketch classes in art school with a timer! Fond memories down memory lane!

I was a coastie stationed in the Bay Area-San Fran in 1974. The 36 footers were being phased out but there were a few still being used that I saw. The crews didn't use the few there at the time as the 44 and 45 footers were the mainstay, but still talked about the 36 footers legendary seaworthiness in any kind of soup nature could throw at them. They were tough nuts and am proud folks today preserve and appreciate what these crews and their patrols boats do. They are Guardians of the Sea and daily live up to the motto Semper Paratus.

What a trip seeing Dave after all these years. He was a year ahead of me in school. (His brother Richard was a year behind me.) In Dave's senior year at Orleans, High, we were in French class together. In the middle of the year, for some reason I can't remember, we got a new teacher. (Actually I think Gordon Argo was the original teacher and he left), a lady whose name I can't remember. Anyway, she didn't have a class roster and she went around asking us all our names. Dave said his name was Alberto Capone. For the next month she always referred to Dave as "Mr. Capone" and the rest of us struggled to contain our laughter.
