Two things wrong here 1st the expander gap and oil ring gap should be between 90° and 120° apart. 2nd The oil ring gaps should never be in lined or even closely in lined with the piston pins as the clip area and hollow retains oil that is thrust forward when the piston suddenly changes direction.

was that head casted in someones backyard? horrible build quality, the fact a guy working quality control at the factory looked at this and said "yup, this part will be reliable."

This is why you do these easy things yourself.

So, I've got leak you can hear in the cab but not so much from the outside. I just did the simplest thing & replaced the exhaust gaskets. So now I fear it's the head leaking. How does it happen? What do i look for & do I need new heads? 1973 VW Thing, original block with the aftermarket muffler per side exhaust. Thank you

Pops brought home a NIC(new in the crate) 1962 Type 3 Squareback from Munich when he was discharged from the 101st. Uncrated and drove from the New York City docks to The Pac Northwest. The local VDub dealer loved it and did a bunch of work. Once the Twin Solex carb kits were available, the purchase was made, along with a exhaust upgrade. 1500cc of Fury!!. Many trips, from coast to coast. Wish we would have kept it.

Do you do machine work on the heads for people I'm in California? I got the unfortunate engine combination 1835 in a Baja and I want to put thick wall cylinders and I need the heads machined flat and opened up and freshened up?? I got CB performance fuel injection the gen 1 set up😂 works great though but cylinder one and two are warped and I have a compression leaks those two
