Any idea of an estimate of what this might cost?
Conservative estimate:150$. 2 20$ rolls of carpet, 10 2x4's (5-6$ each), 4 sheets of plywood (15$ each). But you can do much cheaper if you spend some time shopping around or being creative. Swap out 2x4's with bricks (whcih you can find on fb marketplace for free), find used shop carpet or those showroom carpet squares for next to nothing, you don't need the plywood if you have a flat surface to build on.

How do you keep the water from growing algea
Usually after 2 weeks most of the water evaporates/gets splashed out. Then i use a push broom and brush out the rest of the water (which also scrubs away any slime starting to grow), and then i fill it back up . I've put it up for the last 4-5 years and never had any issues.
what about rot? and what is holding it in place? just the weight?
Just the weight, but you could add a few screws and it would keep everything in place. If the wood is weather treated, it will last a really long time.
I'm beginning to build a set of these boards one thing I don't see covered is how to fasten the two boards together,
You dont fasten them together (they would be wayyyy too heavy). If you did want to fasten them together i would use a lag bolts

We actually got this one from an auction (i think the original owner got it from the horror dome). It's a pretty sweet costume, my brother likes to drive around town on a scooter with it on 🤣

I suspect there weren’t any videos because if it’s done wrong the liability would be risky.
There was absolutely 0 DIY bridge tutorials on CZcams to get guidance from when i started this project, but luckily i managed to make it work. Hopefully this video will be around for other new bridge builders to take ideas from in the future.

How did you make the loop
I cut a 12" wide strip from a plastic barrel/drum, then screwed it down to the wood. then i glued on some pipe insulators for the edges. If you don't have a drum/barrel you could use the plastic from two home depot buckets.
