The Wagon Epidemic of the 2000s (30+ different models)
Station wagons were still holding on for life in the 2000s. As it turns out, there were more than 30 wagons to choose from just 2 decades ago. All from different manufacturers across the globe. In 2024, the only wagons offered are from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo. In this week’s episode, I briefly go over all the wagons from 2000-2009. If I missed any, please let me know in the comments. This list is strictly from an American point of view so wagons not offered in the States won’t be included. Thank you all for watching, enjoy!

Top 10 Slowest American Cars of the 1980s
zhlédnutí 74KPřed dnem
In this week’s episode, I count down the top ten slowest American cars of the 1980s. There were many outside factors that played a role in influencing the automotive industry during this time (1978-84’ especially). Automakers were focusing on fuel efficiency over anything and as a result, these cars lacked power. I’m talking over 20 seconds to reach 60 for most vehicles on this list. In 2024, t...
Ford LTD LX: The 4-door Mustang You Never Heard Of...

During the last few months of 1984, Ford dropped the Mustang's 5.0 in a boxy family sedan. The LTD was the perfect sedan for it as it shared the same underpinnings as the Mustang hence being on the Fox platform. Many fans of this car and of the platform gave it the name the four-door Mustang, but really it was the LTD LX. The Taurus SHO came out in 1989, 4 years after this beast was on the road...

Top 10 Longest American Cars of the 1970s (land yachts)

In this video, size does matter as I go over the top ten longest American cars from the 1970s. These, as many call them, “land yachts” are absolutely beautiful and will always be. General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler competed against one another in this segment that is no longer around today. Of course, I am no expert, so if I miss anything, please let me know in the comments below. Thank you all...

Chrysler needed to do something after the K-cars were losing popularity due to the competition changing. In 1993 the LH platform was released to the public and it was a hit! After a few years, it was time for the LH's second iteration. 1998 would debut this all-new bubbly de...

daytona is nice. best car on list. avenger is also good. looks better than the 2nd gen imo spirit is generic looking but okay for what it is as a budget family car. the newer monoco doesnt resemble the beast it was before. boring design. looks a lot like a cheap Renault which is never good. dynasty is okay as a budget family car for the period. intrepid is too round. looks weird. shadow is okay for a budget car. the shelby looks good though tbh.

regal looks generic. like you said better alternatives. would pick the a4 or bmw/mercedes. old school regal is nice but id take the cutlass. that mitsubishi gallant looks pretty cool. id maybe buy 1 for a project. at-least its kinda unique. dont like ultimas. the styling just doesnt appear to me. biased but regardless prefer honda over nissan for that segment. fusion is similar to the first car on the list. generic. doesnt offer anything special and looks mediocre. camry and accord are better. g6 looks ugly. wouldnt buy it. worst car on the list. i want that bonneville gxp though

Its a rather interesting point to note, American car manufacturers built big V8 engines and put them in land yachts which in turn meant they may as well have used a european diesel engine as the performance output would be the same. The most important aspect of drivability went comoletely out the window, power to weight ratio. On the other side of the pond Europeans were building smaller cars, with smaller engines the only correction needed was to inteoduce more power .

No one in their sane mind would own a Mirage for speeding purposes. It's a supermini car meant for point A to point B daily commutes and cheaper gas tank fill-ups for penny-pinching folks. Nothing much can be done about Mirage's CVT and sloth-like acceleration other than trying to blip the gas pedal many times to simulate an "automatic kickdown switch" effect, and gradually release and gently press the gas pedal to slowly force the Mirage to accelerate. The CVT is not like the old torque converter automatic where you can straight away press the gas pedal to the floor to get that much needed downshifting and acceleration to overtake.

I think the oil embargo shattered the psychology of the American consumers enough to where they would purchase these piles of crap. Your car didn’t feel slow because everybody else’s car was just as slow. Someday, I would like to see a video on Chrysler K cars, especially a beige one. They had to be the lowest of the low point in American automotive history, and nobody talks about it. The guy who took credit for it was on the cover of Time magazine, if you could believe that .

Granted every manufacturer was in serious competition and striving to make much better cars in the 1990's. And car and trucks achieved a level of smart safety features, good engines, good chassis, and then stoppoed. We haven't seen any true improvements in gas mileage since the 1990's and fuel injection and OBD II, airbags, ABS. Some did make some "decent" traction control units, most car companies didn't. And still don't. We reached a level of car in the 1990's that has not been surpassed 30 years later. Certainly no improvement in Gas Mileage. Certainly, not enough to matter. Cars should easily be getting 50-70 MPG with the cars we drive today. It's not the engine, it's how the fuel is being introduced. It should be a vapor, not liquid.

  • @johannjohann6523
    @johannjohann6523 Před 2 dny

Ford should have never gotten rid of the Thunderbird nor the Crown Victoria. And they shouldn't change anything once perfected. You had two nearly perfect cars with comfort and reliability. Drank a little gas, but they just didn't break down. Good Solid Cars. You spent years making it a little bit better, a little bit better. And reach a point where you have a great car. Why get rid of it? If you have vehicles noted for reliability, they will sell. The Japanese makers don't dump their winning models for something that is "less". Ford was making better cars and trucks in the 1990's like every brand did compared to today. Who cares how great a car is if nobody can afford to buy it? Car Price$ have gotten just plain stupid.

The whole small diesel thing was pretty much a joke. These engines were made with international markets in mind. This is primarily because outside of the US, worldwide diesel is substantially cheaper than gasoline. Also most countries have a very old or undeveloped road network and acceleration means very little. These were always a bad fit for the US with high speed interstates and highways. Yes they had better fuel economy but when gas engines became more efficient with modern computers and cylinder heads there wasnt a need for these diesel band aids anymore.

My wife fell in love with the color & bought a used '85 Buick Century with a 4 cylinder 2.5. The absolute slowest most dangerous car to try to merge on a freeway vehicle we ever owned. We had the car for a year & finally sold it. Another slug was an '83 Eldorado with the 4100 HT V8 that I owned for 4 weeks. It was absolutely gorgeous, the same color combo as in the movie Casino, triple silver but it was very slow. Reminded me of some high school dates when I was a teenager, nice to look at & that's about it. Couldn't wait to get rid of the Caddy. Yet one of the quickest cars I owned was an '85 Riv T-type with the Grand National 3.8 Turbo. What a sleeper.

I remember the Chevy LUV truck, and at least where I lived (Detroit area) nobody called it the L-U-V. It was the "Chevy Love." My dad always drove an Olds Delta 88 as a "company car," but while it wasn't fast, the V8 had enough power to tow our boat. I had a friend in college who had a Chevy Chevette, and we called it the "Shit-vette," and my roommate had an early 80s Ford Escort. Not only was it slow, it felt like it would fall apart at any moment and the shifter was like a noodle. Finally, I had a 1984 Chrysler Laser, the twin of the Dodge Daytona. It wasn't the turbo, and it wasn't fast (think it had like 99hp), but it was fun to drive. Good job on the video.
