Registrace 2. 05. 2021
Radiant Light Zen offers contemplative training for people interested in beginning or deepening their meditation practice. We host several geographically dispersed online communities, mentor students, and train caregivers in the arts of compassionate care.
Founded by longtime spiritual friends Michael Melancon and Jonathan Prescott, Radiant Light Zen draws from their spiritual practice in the zen traditions of Thich Nhat Hanh, Joko Beck, Robert Aitken, and others. They were ordained together by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh in 2005, receiving the Dharma names True Recollection of Radiance and True Recollection of Light. Together, they are Radiant Light!
In addition to retreats, practice periods, and day-long programs, we host daily morning meditations online, and weekly hybrid online/in-person meditations in Palm Springs, CA, and Anacortes, WA.

A very calming presence!
Wish I would've had the chance to ask this of Joko Beck - regarding her emphasis on labeling. When we label we make judgements, so cultivating a practice that builds on labeling as a foundation, is that really helpful? I have encountered meditation practices that are very much against labeling. When we label and make judgements we are indulging our conditioned thought processes and engaging in more and more thought activity, which seems to me a contradiction, if we aim to not have our thoughts control us.
For me, labeling is the most direct way to de-energize a thought pattern. The label isn’t a judgement; it’s simply expresses that right now, it’s like this. Rather than ask Joko or another teacher, I invite you to ask yourself. Does labeling work for you? If yes, continue. If no, use one of the many other available practices. 🙏
Great talk- loved the imagery 😮🙏🏼
