A quick lil life update and fall 2021 semester recap of my senior year here at UC Berkeley! I’ve been wanting to make this video chatting about my future plans and where I’ve been recently and finally got around to filming it :) I discuss my summer internship and all the thoughts I’ve had about post-grad plans as a result, all the student organizations and clubs that I missed when we were remote last year, and my plans for this coming semester, including taking the MCAT. I hope all your New Years are going amazing!

    Nice page. Seems like yesterday that I graduated from Cal. Grade deflation is real thing especially at Cal. Pretty sure for my year, my major’s (Nutritional Science M&P) average GPA was ~3.3 or something absurd like that. Rest assured, med schools will respect Cal’s name. That being said, if I can go back, I’d never pick Cal for premed. NEVER lol. But yeah, currently in med school.

    Berkeley truly has grade deflation. Bio has the worst on average, at B- but I once had an Econ professor that curved to C+. Also, there are 35,000+ students but only one gym. Also also, there is no housing post-freshman unless you can afford to pay $2,000 for a shoebox. Also also also, there is a lot of crime, mostly homeless.

      @samanthadragonetti Před rokem

      There is a lot of homeless and as for safety it's not super safe. However, when people remain vigilant and watch their surroundings, keep themselves safe, there shouldn't be a problem. As for the homeless, they are just people. Be nice to them and I doubt there should be any issue.

    When I lived in the dorms at Sacramento State, the annual rate for the dorms was close to the annual rate for a one bedroom apartment. I always thought that cost of dorms was overrated since most students go home during breaks, leaving an apartment on a lease vacant.

    hey, i heard that it's like really hard? especially if you apply undeclared, apparently its extremely competitive (like ultra, ultra competitive) to be honest though, i go to a high school that is apparently "super competitive" but i literally do not feel that way at all, tbh it seems like most of my classmates either are 1) allergic to work 2) have no capability to simply make their lives better themselves and see it through a better perspective 3) have no drive to learn, so it's weird? all i want is a school that constantly pushes me to be better, like always. and people who will NOT rain down on my growth-mindset, because everyone at my school is so negative, i just want to be around people who will push me to be a truly better person

    • @SenecaBrynn
      @SenecaBrynn Před 2 lety

      In my experience, Berkeley is such a big school that if you're looking for competitive people, you'll find them, but on the whole everyone is super collaborative and wants to help one another out! I've had a great experience working with peers and learning from each other through collaboration, and on the whole everyone I've met is super excited to learn! If you're in Letters and Science, you actually start undeclared, but it's more just to allow you to explore different interests--you're not really competing with people in that respect. Regarding it being hard, the workload is definitely a step up from high school, and I would say it's a lot more responsibility on the individual, which I personally enjoy. I would just experiment with ways of studying and time management that work best for you, and remember to take breaks! There are some semesters that are harder than others as well, so it's definitely important to remember that if you're going through a rough patch, it will pass. Hopefully that helps!

    • @SenecaBrynn
      @SenecaBrynn Před 2 lety

      Congrats on your admission, that's super exciting! 🥳 I would honestly say that it's all about how you plan your courseload--they'll do something called golden bear advising over the summer before you start where you learn to make a 4-year plan. Definitely try to meet with you major advisors (you don't have to be declared to do this), not your college advisors, to plan your schedule--they're super knowledgeable about courses and what courses to avoid taking simultaneously! Other than that, I would just experiment with ways of studying and time management that work best for you, and remember to take breaks! I definitely will say that there are some semesters that are harder than others as well, so it's definitely important to remember that if you're going through a rough patch, it will pass. Best of luck with your decision!

    Ha ha, our all -girls 7th floor in Cunningham Hall, unit 2 was definitely not less social than the other floors. In fact, it was the opposite. We had guys from the other floors coming to hang out often. We had to ask them not to use our bathroom. Back in the ‘90s, Units 1 & 2 had their own dining halls. Unit 3 is NOT older. It’s just that Units 1 & 2 have been renovated. IIRC, Unit 4 was Manville Hall (closed down in the mid ‘90s). Unit 5 is Bowles/Stern. Unit 6 is Foothill. Unit 7 is Clark Kerr. I don’t know if they’ve changed this numbering.

    This is super helpful, thank you! I'm an incoming freshman moving into a Stern double next month, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my housing haha (first choice). I am a little annoyed that Stern is pretty far away from most things like grocery stores and boba shops, and it's pretty far from where my classes will be in the fall but that's alright! Taking the bus won't be so bad. Do you know how big Stern's rooms are? I've seen a few Stern tour videos but they don't really show the size of the rooms even though I heard that they're some of the biggest dorm rooms in the housing units overall. I have a big pc setup I'm bringing with me so wanna make sure I'll have room for it, lol.

I don't know exactly the dimensions of the rooms, but I remember the desks in the dorms generally being pretty decent size, and you'd have even more space if there are only 2 of you.
